Seriously? | 3:23 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
How long are we going to insult the ancestors of meso-America by obfuscating their history? To think some people have the nerve to call us racist.

Yep. Things like this are fascinating. However, the article really has little bearing on my feelings toward the Book of Mormon or its truthfulness. The spiritual witness through sincere prayer about its truthfulness is where a person really knows. Happily, as icing on the cake, the Book is a secular witness of itself in multiple ways--no archeologist needed! It simply takes a little time and reading to see this. All of these things, and more to come, act to irrefutably support the Book.

This is what we in athletics call a "stretch." In fact, it is beyond belief that anyone could fall for this kind of thinking. We used to study this kind of stuff in geography and cultural dispersion classes. This particular case reported by the newspaper is a s t r e t c h ------

What's next? People ate food in the morning and evening and therefore they must be related culturally?

Please. Please.

Quit Embarrassing Yourselves | 8:17 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
These attempts to coonect Mesoamerica with the old world are getting silly. Because there is no archaelogical evidence to support the Book of Mormon, you appear to be grasping at straws to make a connection, any connection, valid or not. And it only highlights the weakness of your argument. Saying these are "the same proportions" is like saying that because they are are both made of stone proves a connection, when in fact it does not.
racist? | 9:46 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
You used the dictionary to come up with the word "obfuscate." Why didn't you look up the word "racist" while you were at it? Why would making comparisons, pointing out obvious similarities, obfuscate their history? Meso-American people do not even know their history past these periods, so it is fair game. Might try listening to these Mormons before discounting their logic. As far as I can tell, they are the only ones giving Meso-Americans some sort of clue about their heritage beyond the last thousand years or so.

It's funny to me to see statements like this:

" Saying these are "the same proportions" is like saying that because they are are both made of stone proves a connection, when in fact it does not."

So, do you have any proof that the measurements are not correct? You act like you have indepth knowledge. Please share that knowledge with us showing that he measurements are not true. If they are all true, that is a very, very, unlikely coincidence. That would be like saying two families on different continents building two copmletely custom homes. These two families are not influenced at all by the other's culture and don't know anything at all about the other. They build the house to be the same size. This means their houses are exactly a like. Is that coincidence too? It doesn't sound so stupid when put in realworld situations.

I hope the Smithsonian did not read this article.

Why is it that only a Mormon archeologist can find any similarities? Aren't there literally thousands of well-educated archeologist who have found ABSOLUTELY NO similarities?
truthseeds | 12:56 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
All those who find this interesting may also find the archeology, culture and dna evidence regarding the Hopewell peoples intriguing also. Look into Rod Meldrum. Quite compelling!

Mormons grasping at straws, and very very tiny straws at that. I agree that I would be embarrassed if I were mormon. Come on people take o the jello covered spectacled, I welome you all to reality.
To racist? | 2:07 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Yes, you heard me. Implying that the ancestors of people who made these ruins are Lamanite and therefore onetime Hebrews cursed with dark skin for wickedness is racist and just plain disrespectful. Now you can deny and obfuscate LDS teachings and 'opinions', but I and millions of others of my generation know what we were taught regarding this. Still, I think a rebuttal is in order. Lurkers will find it at interesting at the least.
re: Racist? | 2:13 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
You seriously think that Mormons are the only ones shedding light on meso-American history? Mormon views are so disregarded that well known scientific organizations(Smithsonian anyone?) have sent out form letters to make it clear that Mormonism is in no way shape or form related to actual scientific research and findings. And yes, there are many non-Mormon scientists who actually publish peer reviewed work that study meso-American cultures and archaeology.

To "quite embarrassing yourselves" and "interesting:" I love the way you people throw out these attacks with absolutely NOTHING to support them. Of course, It's all you can say. It's really easy to say it's a "stretch" and "you are embarrassing yourselves." It is obvious to the rest of us that the reason you do this is because you have NO answer.

You laugh all you want. You have no substantative counter arguments and everyone knows it. That's why you make these silly attacks. You're not fooling anyone.

I feel really sorry for you. It is so sad to see someone who so desperately tries to convince and justify him or herself. I'm afraid you are going to have a very long hard journey to the truth.
Emjay | 2:50 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
When people have no effective counter arguments, they try riducule. Do you people think that ridicule, in any way, invalidates truth? It does not!

The evidences supporting the authenticity of the Book of Mormon become greater and greater every day. It has gone far beyond coincidence.

Of course, the real way to know of its truth is to read it and pray about it with a sincere heart. That is what I did and that is how I learned of it's truthfulness. I have received personal revelation that it is true. No amount ridicule will change that fact. Anyone who has a SINCERE DESIRE to know can have this knowledge.

Those of you who make these unsupported attacks are the ones who are really embarrassing yourselves. You are not convincing anyone else and you aren't really convincing yourselves either. It would be funny if it weren't so tragic.

The Church will go on. It will fullfill it's mission. Those who attack it will fall by the wayside and be forgotten.

Interesting and Embarrassing yourselves: You really don't have to be this unhappy. You can find the true way. Why not give it a try?

"By their fruits ye shall know them" Evidence will just keep coming, but it's always been there if you would only read and feel it's impact on your soul.....

How amazing this find is! I only wish I would have known about the conference before now, I would have loved attending..

Why don't these types of stories ever get picked up by repected news outlets? There is a reason why these articles are confined the the mormon times. Get a life people and stop spreading lies and misthruths. Mormons are silly.

43.7 is a number used to build the great pyramid and measurements to the stars over it in the Milky Way above it and the 4 seasons star configurations. Pi math historically is a part of this history as is the stone PI figures in Great Britain and the winter soltice. The new quantum math used in engineering today is actually the ancient forbidden math used on art on walls of buildings in Iraq and Afghanistan. Some of the ancient stone figure letters found in Central America match letters in the middle eastern countries almost perfectly.

Have any of you researched archeology. MesoAmerican in 600B.C to 400AD is known as the Pre-Classic Mayan culture. So many of their building and temples were built over time and time again or destroyed by invading cultures such as the Aztecs. Many experts cannot find any archeology for the 12 tribes living in the wilderness before they came into Caanan. But, very few Christians or Jews discount the Bible because they cannot find their "smoking gun" evidence. The Book of Mormon has plenty of evidence just as the Bible. Read them and pray to the Lord of their truths. It is all the evidence you need.
cool | 9:21 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
The article simply points out the similarities in building structures in ancient America and Israel. This is an interesting archealogical observation that deserves a little press. Whether there is an actual connection between the Hebrews and the American cultures or whether this is just an unexplainable archetype is kind of fun to think about . . .

The truth is being revealed. We welcome the investigators to find the truth.
Interesting... | 10:16 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
It is interesting to note that when ever LDS... anything... is metioned, those who oppose LDS teachings and beliefs are simply "heck bent!" The truth-of-the-matter is that very little of Mesoamerica has been unearthed and studied... so do not pretend to think you have a clear knowledge of the ancients because you are clueless. It is thought that MANY different people have visited and possibly lived here... Remember the Kennewick Man? Other evidence include one of the oldest documented 10 commandments found in stone... In New Mexico!!!! There is some thought that this can be dated back to 500 bc! So... what is the big deal if someone mentions similar architecture from the old world? Relax... work through your pride and bitterness!
Sign Seekers! | 10:18 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
No matter how much evidence is found, most critics will continue to discount it. The truth is no amount of evidence will convince critics! If the Lord Himself stood before them and testified of the truth of the B. of M. the critics would argue with Him and demand more signs! Just like they did when He was alive! His answer remains the same: "it is a wicked and adulterous generation that seeks after signs". There shall no sign be given.

Wow! And by coincidence (or "miracle"), Leonardo Da Vinci was a member of the Knights Templar, and he painted Mary Magdalene (Jesus' wife) into the Last Supper painting, and the Holy Grail in Latin really means "Holy Blood", and ...

Did you people actually READ the Da Vinci Code?

Who cares about a few similar dimensions in ancient buildings? It proves nothing. You people are really grasping at straws! What a joke!
