Currently not accepting any trash talk. Go cougs!
NevadaCoug | 6:02 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Yeah, go Cougars.

Chance to go up two scores on the first drive of the second half? Fizzle.

Chance to stop SDSU on their first drive: Yet another bid play results from BYU's inability to tackle, and SDSU is set up.

But wait! Fumble! No BYU can't come up with it.

3rd and 22...no, 3rd and 27 after a penalty! No problem, Lindley throws a prayer to the endzone and BYU watches it go over their heads for a touchdown.

This team is finding ways to allow an inferior team to stay in the game.

I think that maybe you've missed something. BYU is an inferior team.
play calling | 7:02 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
is terrible. time for anae to make some changes. or hit the road. not creative or intelligent enough to carry the responsibility of directing the offense.
WOW | 7:16 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Worst Defensive back play i have ever seen, This is pitiful. We are going to get DESTROYED next week.
HAHAHAHA | 7:24 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
This game was very reminiscent of last year's meltdowns vs. UNLV and Colorado State. The boogars again show their true form. That and TCU coming alive today to drop 44 on Colorado State means BYU is going to get pounded next week. I can't wait!
Couger fan | 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
A win is a win. BYU is an average team finding ways to win. Need better play calling.
Yner | 7:31 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Wow, way to keep a terrible team in the game. I thought this year was 2004 revisted
Re:Yner | 7:41 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
sort of like san diego state?
Coug Dad | 7:43 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
HAHAHAHA apparently didn't watch the games last year. The CSU and UNLV games came down to the end in dramatic fashion. BYU was clearly in control of both of these games, but they also are not playing up to their potential in key situations. That is coaching. I'm not sure what's going on with the O-line coaching (although it certainly isn't what it was a few years ago) and silly penalties continue to bother them.

TCU won't be overpowering as a lot of people suspect. It will be a tough game, but the home field should come into play here. Its too bad the groundskeepers are the biggest drawback for the Cougs this year. I'd turn the field into a swamp and not have cut the grass since last year if I were the Cougs. Unfortunately, the Cougs have too much sense of fair play for that.
ute4me | 7:47 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Well the Y won but poor play calling by offense in critical situations..not smart..coaches almost cost the boys their game. we Utah should match up with the coogs but TCU may not do as well as expected against either the Y or Utah. Go Utah Go Coogs go mountain west.
DennyG | 7:49 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
A win is NOT a win. This win stunk clear to Massachusetts.
This is no way to get respect from anyone outside of Utah County.
Face it Bougars, another year lost.
It wasn't the coaches, it wasn't the playcalling, it wasn't the referees, it was sloppy, poorly played football. Kind of the Provo norm the past few years.
SDSU... | 7:49 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
...is NOT a terrible team. As for next week, you don't know how teams match up until they play. TCU is notorious for laying eggs in BIG games. That said, BYU better find some pass defense by next Saturday.
hopefully | 7:57 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
BYU was watching film on TCU all week and let this one go by with little preparation.
TCU Fan | 7:57 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Can't wait for the big game. May the best team win. Of course I'm biase and need to scream for TCU. Watch out Cougars...
dodger | 8:06 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
BYU does not have a disciplined team. And why they don't really puzzles me. Everything that should promote discipline, BYU has. Whats the deal??????? I think it's milk fed Mormon kids. What a shame.
RE: Denny G | 8:08 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
DennyG: How would you know what the stench was in Massachusetts? Bet you it was more from the Buckeyes loss to Purdue than BYU's win at SDSU. NO, BYU did not play well, but neither did Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Va Tech, etc. Teams have down days. Go back to cheering on your Utes and keep your poor sportmanship to yourself. I cheer for your Utes in good times or bad (excepting one day a year). Man up and be a sport. GO MWC teams. Good to see SDSU on the rise. And they ARE on the rise.
Enough | 8:09 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Okay, I am a die hard cougar fan, but enough is enough. It is time to fire anae and probably bronco as well. He has taken the program as far as it can go. Time for change.
NevadaCoug | 8:12 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
This is looking a lot like last season, but for BYU already having one loss. They struggled in the game before facing TCU and were not very healthy at that point in the season either.

This season they struggled mightily against SDSU, and are pretty banged up. Next week could be pretty ugly.

As a Cougar fan, I'm not feeling very confident at all.
Ute Fan | 8:12 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
The Utes are terrible this year so I am going to watch BYU play all their games and make comments about BYU Football...
3rd down conversions | 8:15 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Reported as 15 of 21. I'll defend that stat as being representative of good play calling and/or good execution for those situations. Fourth down decisions and play calling worry me. Insisting that we continue to run the ball on 1st and 10 and 2nd and 10 throughout the second half when it was apparent that Rocky Long had made half-time adjustments to shut that down also bothers me.

Getting beat deep on 3rd and forever shouldn't happen either. All that said, I do think SDSU is an improved team and used their bye week well in preparing for this game. Unlike the last couple of years, they competed for most of the game.

Looking forward to next Saturday. Questions will be answered.
RE: DennyG | 8:17 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
> sloppy, poorly played football. Kind of
> the Provo norm the past few years.

DennyG must have a time machine, which he used to write that comment in 2004 and have it show up today.

Most teams would do anything to have just one season like any of our last few seasons. We may not be top tier, but we're top 20 for sure.
moose on the loose | 8:22 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Only the intoxicated ute fans will see this as anything but what it was. BYU was clearly in control the whole game. BYU played very well. Max Hall was great(27-39-346-0). I will take those stats any game. Cain only dreams of stats like that. That is what it was. Any game in conference is tough. Ask Ohio State. They lost to a 1-4 Purdue team. Ask #4 ranked V. Tech how tough conference games can be. BYU will take this great win into Provo and get ready for next week. You drunk ute fans can keep babbling on and on, for no one cares. (outside the liqour store that is)
U grad, Y FAN | 8:26 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Great job Cougars! Can't wait for the upcoming games - particularly Utah! My fellow graduates and I really enjoy getting together, remembering the good ole times, and watching BYU beat the Utes!

Anonymous | 8:29 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
At least the fireside was good. We need a different direction, Bronco is not cutting it. He did his job but will never be able to take us to the next level.
NevadaCoug | 8:29 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
I've been pretty negative about this game all night. Now for some positives.

1) Max Hall had his second straight game without an interception. He has shown improvement in protecting the ball the last two weeks. Doing so against UNLV isn't such a huge thing. Doing so against an improving, Rocky Long coached defense is saying a lot more.

2) This win gives BYU 6 on the season and makes them bowl eligible. TCU also won today for their 6th win. Halfway through the season, and the MWC already has two bowl eligible teams.
Preparation | 8:30 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
I never thought I'd say this... Anae needs to go, and maybe Bronco needs to be the defensive coordinator again- and ONLY that. I sure wish we could get Sark coaching for us... but head coaches have to be members. Bronco is a great motivator and leader, but I'm not so sure about his preparation and flexibility. Didn't Max say after last week that "Only Oklahoma did what we expected them to do." Lack of preparation, lack of flexibility- maybe we have peaked under the current staff and new leadership is needed...
Now Is The Moment | 8:38 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
We play the game on the field to see who is better this week than last year. So lets take it one week and one team at a time and a win is a win.
cougar claws | 8:39 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Ok all you pretend cougar fans ENOUGH is ENOUGH, go post on your teams articles. As cougars, we're very happy. Calling for Anae and Mendenhall to quit? Haahaaahhaha, funny stuff. These two are crushing the coaching competition.
Lost Touch | 8:41 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Does it seem like it to anyone else that Bronco has lost touch with this team.
Come on Boy's !!! | 8:41 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
TCU is for real and you gotta play allot better then today's performance. I would agree with many of the other's on the very poor play selection, specifically the fourth down conversion plays and many of the up the middle no imagination first down calls WOW this type of offensive scheme will not stand up to the TCU pressure. Come on boy's GET TO WORK !!!!
re:enough | 8:46 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
You are such a yewt fan. Dpn't pretend you care. The cougs are a very good football team. Please show me one team that plays flawless football...none! This team is a smash mouth, hungry team. Each week when they play their opponent is trying to make their season with one win...BYU is always their bowl game. Nobody in the MWC gets the same effort against them like the Cougs.

Great win today agains an inspired SDSU team! Beat the Frogs!
Boise Fan | 8:47 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Have fun watching BOISE play in the BCS this year BYU fans!!! lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
S Gavenman | 9:03 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
If Max keeps throwing ints, we are going to be in trouble. He needs to protect the ball. I think he will do that against TCU, but I worry about next week.
BYU teaches SDSU  | 9:05 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
humility, If it wans't for the bad calls and the bias. Looking through the BYU lens the score was reaally 42 to 7 BYU.
Tim in Orem | 9:09 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Sorry fellow coug fans, but I do agree that Bronco has lost touch. He can't control the players off the field, and the results on the field are slipping. Vegas bowl isn't good enough anymore, and that is Broncos peak.
NevadaCoug | 9:12 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
RE: Boise Fan

Hey, Boise Fan. Hate to break this to you, but you need to cheer for BYU next week. If TCU runs the table in the MWC, they will finish ahead of Boise State in the BCS standings, if not the AP and Coaches Polls. Their strength of schedule will probably hurt them quite a bit in the computer rankings.

But we'll no more about that on Sunday, right?
BYU Fan | 9:25 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
BYU won what is with everyone? Have you watched the other scores all year? Top teams are having a tough time with so called lesser teams. Florida should have lost to Arkansas today. And how about VT losing to GT?
Hey Max | 9:27 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009

RoJo is ready for your passes.
Throw 2, 3 or even 4 to him on 11/28.
He will return at least 1 for a score.
Help a long-distance brother out | 9:31 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Here in Maryland, we have almost no exposure to the Cougs (thanks, Craig Thompson and MWC University presidents!), so I'm curious to know what you are seeing that would indicate that Bronco has lost touch with the players?

MT in MD
Sky-high expectations | 9:32 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Bronco will have all forgiven if BYU beats TCU next week. Every season has up and down weeks. BYU will be fired up for TCU at home.Bronco has been a consistently good coach. He still has more time to try and take it to the next level. The Utes put pressure on BYU to match their Undefeated and BCS bowl season.Time will tell
Didn't look impressive at all | 9:34 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Well, we can see what a difference having a good defensive coordinator can make. Rocky Long took his skills to SDSU and I think we're starting to see a difference as he's getting things rolling there. Sure wish he had come to BYU.

Our O and D coordinators need to WAKE UP. Yes SDSU is starting to play better but they're still just Sandy-freaking-Eggo State. Hill didn't make the necessary adjustments on defense until we were well into the 4th quarter. We shouldn't have allowed them to score more than 10 pts.

And what's up with Anae continually going with running plays on 1st down??? SDSU was expecting it every time and defended accordingly. Geez, show some creativity for crying ut loud!!!

The good news: It was a win and no INTs by Max.
FIRE BRONCO!!! | 9:37 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Vegas bowl here we come again. Time for bronco to retire. Can we get sark or andy reid.
Bosie Fan | 9:37 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
7 point win over Tulsa? Serious? BCS caliber I think not!
Re: Boise Fan | 9:40 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Boise State may very well indeed get a spot in the BCS this year but it will be granted very reluctantly. They now have two games in this year's portfolio which is starting to look like the Hawaii team from a few years ago.
boise | 9:43 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
ill have alot of fun watching boise get murdered in thier bcs game lol, boise is so overrated its ridiculous, if you werent scared you would schedule real teams to play lol
Wrubbell's Meaningless Stats | 9:46 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Greg Wrubell says in the postgame:

"The Cougars are now 1-0 when Max runs for more than 45 yards."

Wrubell and his tiresome stats are successfully turning BYU football into a baseball game. And not in a good way, either.
Fire them all? | 9:47 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
I kinda like my cougs being 6-1. I don't think they would beat every team in the country but they are very good and they are entertaining to watch. Hope the Cougs bring their best for TCU, they have had good luck against them in the past. No one goes undefeated every year - even BSU with a pathetic schedule.
Enough already | 9:57 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
"Bronco has lost touch"

"It is time to fire anae and probably bronco as well. He has taken the program as far as it can go. Time for change."

Horse feathers. I actually graduated from BYU. I am PROUD of what Coach Mendenhall has done with the program. Including this season, since his second year, he has won over eighty percent of his games! The team beat Oklahoma in Dallas!!

EVERY team in the MWC or the WAC HATES BYU. Utah State follows BYU like a stalker. There are no actual Ute fans, only anti-BYU fans. Other teams like NM or Wyoming obsess about the Cougars. Don't tell me they don't, because you know they do.

What do you guys expect? 70-3 blowouts every single game? The way this stupid BCS is stacked, it is very difficult to get past the Las Vegas Bowl. That isn't his doing. If Bronco leaves, you bet he would get picked up in a hurry by a formerly storied, currently hurting BCS program. You are either crazy, or Ute trolls.

And by the way, the firesides are the best part of program. Good for Coach Mendenhall.
