I just watched the replay of the Aggies onside kick about twenty times. There was no offsides. That ref needs help. When will the NCAA require officials to have a press conference after games to answer for their horrible calls?
Also, why is Gary Andersen punting on 4th and 1 with 5 minutes left when his defense is terrible and he's playing the number 1 rushing offense in the country?
dartstock | 5:33 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
The game was shown on in some parts of the country on comcast. Exciting WAC football! You're right about the oneside kick.

ref quest | 5:43 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Why is it that refs think they need to be a "FACTOR" in games? Just ref the game and stop controlling the outcome!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anonymous | 5:55 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
I was watching the game on a Nevada channel with Nevada announcers, and even they thought nobody was offside on the onside kick. It really a shame we didn't get to see if USU could drive down the field and win it.

Bottom line is you have to win football games. Blaming problems on the refs gets you nowhere. I for one am excited about the future of USU football, and I think Anderson is slowly but surely changing the culture.

Give him some time, and have faith in our boys!
Bad Playcalling.. | 5:57 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Bad playcalling by the coaches lost this one.. the players have the heart to win.. the coaches let us all down!!
PJaggiefan | 6:17 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
The offsides on the onside kick was a bad call, but only one of many during the game and those who think it cost us the game are wrong. How about stopping the run or picking up a 3rd & short? Thats what lost the game not one bad call. Anyway lets get out there for the LaTech game next week and win one. Go Aggies!
Game on CW | 6:22 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Thanks CW for airing Aggie games. It was great to see the Aggies on TV. However on Dish Network the signal really looked bad for the first half and improved for the second half.

JJ | 6:52 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Ags, let's not go to rival sites and rag on them for complaining about the refs. Refs do control the game sometimes. Let this be a lesson to you.

Like all people have been saying who aren't ag fans...it will be another terrible season, but it's still a moral victory, right?
Where's Turbin? | 7:09 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Why wasn't Turbin used more? He wasn't "held" to one carry, He never got the ball from Borel! (or the coaching staff calling plays) With a 24-14 lead, USU passed and passed and passed to its downfall, Borel was not effective. Why did he try and keep passing? Get it to Turbin and let him run the ball!!!
Where's Turbin | 7:16 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
WHere was Turbin? He only had one carry in the second half? What is going on?
Anonymous | 8:08 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
ROBERT TURBIN should never touch the ball less than twenty times in one game..he is a machine with serious talent! There were several play calls that were questionable but Coach Anderson put too much trust in his defense with the punt on 4th down. The onside kick was bogus but losing by 6 points in the last 2 games shows the Ags are at least competing far more than ever before as of late.
Same old same old | 8:15 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Time to:

- Blame the refs
- Fire the coach
- Talk about how great we are in basketball
- DREAM that someday things will get better

Oops,forgot one:

- Count our "moral" victories (about 5 this year)

Give the guy a break. The Ags are sure playing better than last year. You cannot turn around a program in one season.
Ricks | 10:25 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Aggies, what are you guys thinking? Do you know anything about football? Everyone else in the state can see that Gary is going to be a great coach for you. Give him a chance, and support him---the team won't turn around in a season. And definitely don't blame the refs, that just looks whiny. You should play well enough that refing isn't an issue.

The Ags will start winning ... soon. Just support your team and coach.
Aggies | 10:43 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Please, that was an outragous call. But, keep it up and you look like the whYners down south.
Disappointed. | 10:51 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Not happy with they way our guys played tonight. They thought they had it in the bag after the first half and forgot to play the rest of the game. Sure, there were a couple of playcalls that in retrospect weren't the best, and I would like to see Turbin touch the ball more, and the refs weren't the greatest. But when it comes down to it, our boys have to play like they want it for 4 quarters if they are ever going to win. I don't think they've learned that yet. This season will be long but I still think 4-5 total wins is possible.
AgBlue | 11:05 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
Any one that doesn't think Gary Anderson is a great fit and completley capable of a head coaching job is either stupid or trying to get him to quit so they don't have to face him in the coming years. Another thing, how can we expect the players to know how to handle end of game situations when we as fans don't. Pretty pathetic that the stands start emptying when we are down by 11 with over 4 minutes left, worse yet are the fans that didn't show up. Good things are on the way.
As long as the program has  | 11:32 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
been bad it is funny to hear from disillusioned fans who want Gary out, I mean the majority are BYU fans just getting in a jab because Gary delivered the knockout to them several times, just remember Rome wasn't built in a day. USU will get better, Gary Anderson is a great coach, we are not stacked with Gary recruits yet and still I feel we have made strides, yes we need W's but have some freaking patience folks.

Have some patience it is not like we are going to land someone else who really is a better coach than Gary. We have to give him time, yes more than a season. Thanks.
Disappointed. take two | 11:48 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
just for the record, I do see vast improvements and I think GA is the best thing to happen to USU Football in a coon's age. Our guys just need to buy into his program and play like they mean it for 4 quarters. In time things will get better.
Progress | 11:55 p.m. Oct. 17, 2009
They did better than anyone expected against Nevada, and probably deserved to win. Results seem very similar to last year's oh so close losses and Guy probably deserved another year to show if he could turn that same progress into W's.

I do hope for the best for Gary though. Would be nice to see them finally on the other side of these close losses!
Dallas Aggies | 12:03 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
What a bitter pill to swallow. Thank you team and coaches for your heart felt efforts. The wins will start to come. We believe in you guys! Go Aggies!

Can't turn a program around in one season? Tell that to the University of Idaho.
Concerned Student | 12:59 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Nothing is more disheartening than sitting in the stands and listening to the other Aggie spectators around you take pot-shots at the team and it's players even when we are winning. The players need the help of the fans just as much as anything. When Aggie fans walk out of the spectrum they always leave with hoarse voices. can we say the same thing about Romney stadium? Our boys need our support. The talent is there. The coaching is there. The heart is there. Its easy to cheer when your up on the score board. When will we cheer when we are down 11 points with less then five minutes in the game? When will we dig deep in the stands and pull or boys out of a 3rd quarter slump when they are doubting themselves. When will we give cast out the mentality same-old-same-old. how can we expect the team to win at home when the fans dont have the players backs. Thats the whole idea of "home court advantage." USU fans are known for being crazy, fanatical, and down right mean. Lets always bleed blue. Not just in the Spectrum

Robb Akey is in his 3rd season as head coach at Idaho. That doesn't look like one year to me...looks more like three. What do I know though?
To: Anonymous | 6:53 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
The coach at UofI is in his third year. So my guess is that it took him three years.
Borel can't | 7:13 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
pass consistently (He must have missed ten wide open receivers) and the Aggies can't get a break. Stupid penalities cost us points again. Coach Anderson couldn't see the obvious. When your defense hasn't stopped the opponent once in the second half and your team is trailing on the scoreboard, DON'T PUNT ON FOURTH AND ONE at mid-field. At least try to move and keep the ball.
Head Coach? | 7:17 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
As a head coach, Anderson is 5 & 11, no sure that holds a lot of promise.
Anonymous | 7:33 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
To Anonymous:

Idaho replaced their coach the year BEFORE we did. If you'll remember right Idaho was really bad last year which was their new coach's first year. Now that he's had a year to put his system in place they are winning games.

Give Anderson time!

This is year two for Idaho coaching staff.
SE Idaho Aggie | 7:55 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
I agree, Idaho is now 6 and 1. It has taken their new coach three years to turn it around. GA will do the same thing. Plus, the WAC is better, look at LA Tech and Idaho.
Really? | 7:56 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
So if byu or utah had the same thing (the offsides called on the onside kick) happen to them they would be okay with that? They wouldn't say anything about the refs? The other no call that hurt was when the play clock ran out on the 4th and 1 but no flag was thrown and Nevada ended up with a touchdown instead of kicking a field goal. So did the refs cost us the game, I don't know, but I do know they certainly didn't help us win it.
To Anonymous | 8:16 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Idaho, believe it or not, is on fire. The Vandals are bowl eligible after winning just two games last year. They have played just on Div. I-AA team and have beaten San Diego State and Colorado State. They schedule good. They don't have three or four non-conference automatic losses like the Aggies.
Anderson.... | 9:12 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
is head coach material and will turn this team around. We are getting pushed around with inferior talent at the front lines, both DL and OL. Once he gets his kids in the program, they should excel. Borel needs to make some better choices with the ball.
Idaho under Robb Akey | 9:40 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
2007 1-11
2008 2-10
2009 6-1 so far

Yup an "instant" turn-around... Well "instant" if you don't count the first 2 years of hard work and tough losses.
TURBIN? | 9:47 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Give him the ball!!! One carry in the second half? This guy is NFL material and he gets one carry in the second half? Terrible terrible play calling. How do you know you can't run when your star running back gets one carry in the second half?
Anonymous | 11:20 a.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Our ideas are totally useless. After all, we have so much experience coaching...er, I mean watching football. Come on people. USU is in Logan, UT. Good luck recruiting 50 good players there. Anderson has those guys he has competing. Good for him. Basketball only needs to get about 10 good guys, big difference.

Bottom line, it takes time to change a losing culture. It takes time to find the kind of kids that have the make up to win. Idaho is doing it...maybe they got a great bunch of guys up there, who knows. WE SURE DON'T!!!
Turbin / refs | 12:21 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Turbin - NFL material??? Give me a break.

As far as the refs, USU did far more (or less) on the field to hurt their chances to win than one or two calls by a referee. Good teams play through those calls (which all teams get) and do rely on the refs for the win.

I can hardly wait for basketball season where we will dominate the state!
Give em some time! | 2:59 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
Everybody wants to win now, now, now, now!!!

The Aggies are winners- the coach and players have done an excellent job this year!

Offense is clicking and will be very dangerous in years to come. Defense needs some bigger bodies but that is a recruiting process.

GIVE THE BOYS SOME TIME!! Rome wasn't built in a day.

The WAC is getting better every year as well! Nothing is static in football.

Hold your heads high in Logan. Time will come when you can notch 8-10 victories every year! Then the wanna be fans will come back in droves.
Pathetic.. | 3:05 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
is the only way to describe this program. It isn't going to improve ever because nobody dreams of playing in Logan. Name five teams more pathetic than Utah State. Let's think: New Mexico State, Idaho, umm. Maybe North Dakota State is worse. Oh, Southern Utah. Aren't they in a lower division?

Pack it in, move down and tear down Romney Stadium. Good thing there's basketball.
Turbin | 4:42 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
wasn't feeling 100% and as has been mentioned a hundred times, USU's line was getting OWNED by the UNR defensive front...hence the lack of Turbin. They probably could have and should have used him more regardless, but trust the coaches, they actually know more about football than we do, I'm sure of it.

As for Borel...he threw for over 350 yards and 3 TDs yesterday and has thrown ONE interception this season. I'd say he's doing alright.
Scott B | 4:50 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
I am tired of moral victories. We all want to win. However, I am still excited that my Aggies are competitive. The Ws will start to come. I still have complete faith in Gary.

It is going to take a few wins this season to get the fans on board. I chewed out my engineering Aggie daughter for not being at the game. Current students have no idea what good college football is all about.

Go Big Blue!!!
Texas Aggie | 5:19 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
"Why not us, Why not NOW" well, because maybe, having to learn different coaching philosophies, maybe a bit more discipline, maybe it will take time and things will change. Anderson may be the answer or NOT, the U defense is still sound. It may take some time, but one thing for sure, in the NMSU game and the NV game, they were outcoached. And if you want to blame it on the refs..take them out of it by being up enough, not to have to have an onside kick to save the day! Or the game. I see them winning against SJSU and possibly Hawaii, and maybe next year will be different for us/or not. I hope for better Aggie football in Logan, but will keep things in perspective for now. Go Big Blue!!

Blow a winnable game and then talk smack about BYU. Typical dilusional aggie.
WOW | 5:29 p.m. Oct. 18, 2009
I have to say, whining pathetically over a call that DID NOT cost them the game, is pretty delusional. Maybe if they stop hatin on the Y and the U, they might still have the energies to finish the GAME.
