Should KSL find different format for AM?

About the only thing I listen to on KSL anymore is BYU football and basketball. You can get KSL AM1160 over a huge distance at night I'd hate to see sports eliminated from AM.

About any other time I tune in to KSL I just hear a stream of commercials.

but you can't argue with 50,000 watts a lot of people listen to the am station that can not get the FM version.

They should have kept the oldies music. I would rather listen to anything other than "conservative" talk radio, even Mormon preaching.

You might as well make it a religious program, because the mean talk-radio shows cause harm to our country and to our souls. Whatever happened to true Christian values?

Possible formats for KSL AM:

1) be news intensive, like what KIQN (1010 AM) tried to do, with the bulk of programming being from AP radio. KSL could also simulcast portions of Federal News Radio (which a Bonneville station in Washington, DC creates) and/or simulcast programming from Bloomberg Business Radio.

2) run LDS programming/music

3) Easy Listening/Elevator Music (Bonneville used to sell tapes of this music to stations nationwide; presumably they still have the master tapes stored somewhere)

4) Older oldies (like KKAT-AM used to air), perhaps with big band/swing overnight like they used to.

5) Adult Standards, perhaps with big band/swing overnight.

Driving down 9th east in Provo by BYU reception on AM is bad, but the FM is good every where

I live in Spokane WA and at night I can pick up KSL AM1160 and have used it to listen when in the car. Mostly for BYU basketball games. I cannot get that from the FM signal and not always available to listen over the internet, so I would hope they keep the AM

KSL-AM is great for me in Cache Valley, because I usually can't pick up a clear FM signal. Doug Wright is much more tolerable on KSL than Rush Limbaugh on KVNU at the same time.

I also love listening to KSL-AM when I'm on the road in San Francisco and Phoenix.

I pick up KSL at night here in Phoenix, which is great for football and basketball games. Would be a shame to lose the 50,000 watt AM station.

I remember being in Samoa in 1984 and being able to pick up KSL and hearing the end of a Jazz game.

50000 watts indeed.

I would hate to see KSL-AM change from the current format. News is important, and KSL keeps me informed. At home or on the road.

Let's see...

Glenn Beck
Michael Savage
Jerry Doyle
and
Mark Levin

ought to round out a great day of programming!

The AM side should go all news Mon-Fri 5 am-7pm. It could provide the hard news junkie with more in-depth stories from ABC Radio Network; more business news; more sports news; traffic reports all day. What with KSL TV/AM/FM basically sharing all their resources in the news business, this type of format would not be that much more of an expense for them, and they could sell the extra ad inventory from 9a-3p when they don't have all news on FM. This would be the smartest move for AM 1160.
Oh please | 4:14 p.m. Oct. 27, 2009
Yes, please, let's have another radio station that transmits nothing but the sheep-media's line, so we can hear more support for such "good for the people" things like government-run health care, silencing those stupid, uneducated, evil right-wing voices, and making sure everybody toes the global-warming line.

Add Bob Lonsberry

Forget Lonsberry, we don't need another voice from the other station. I listened to Tom Barberi for years and turned them off when they cancelled his show. I like a fine whine in the morning (Tom). Jerry Doyle and Glenn Beck would be nice, but don't mess with Grant and Amanda or Rikki!
