Defense? | 11:08 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Reading about the Portland point guards, they collectively had 3 points shy of their teams total points for the night. Why did the Jazz have such a hard time putting some D on the Portland 1?

Andre, I respect you and your game and think your problems with the media and perhaps the public in Portland stem from your reluctance to open up with the media. But when you open up, you should keep the negative thoughts hidden and be open about positive things. I for one think that all players should earn their positions as starters or backups. Blake is a fine player who has been underrated because of his color mostly. But he also tends to make some dumb decisions -- shooting out of position, making ridiculously difficult pass atempts, etc., so I think you'll end up with that starter's spot.

If Blake is your starting point guard, you aren't a great team. Andre,I respect you for telling it like it is, a 10 + year veteran should expect to start especially on a young blazer team in need of experience. Here is hoping that you play against D-will and not Maynor the next time we see you in town. RE: Defense, that's the Jazz philosophy to give up the 3 and shut down the paint which they did against Portland. Expect some losses due to that philosophy against good three point shooting teams this year.

The criticizing fans were a vocal minority in Portland. Most fans here have been waiting for Andre to arrive since he was with LAC. Blake knows the offensive sets, he knows his guy's spots, so he can get some numbers for a while this year. Can Brandon and Andre co-exist when both need the ball on the dribble to make plays? (site the picture in the upper right) Unlikely. So, we should expect Andre with the second unit, hitting career numbers with Rudy @2, Webster @3 and Oden @5. If Andre and Brandon can figure out how to play together, I'd expect to see them paired down the stretch in the fourth, not starting together. IMHO, your best guys are your closing 5, not your starting 5 anyway.

That has been the biggest complaint I have had watching SLoan for 20 years and my main point in all of my criticism:

Giving up 3s by packing the paint

Except a lot of the time the paint is not packed either.

This is why if we could acquire a proven defensive, block shot center as we have such abundance of wings, a good portion of the problem lessens

Miller has very high standards on the court. Practices religiosly, very serious minded. A real good point gaurd. a good shooter who can carry a team in rough times in a night, a good passer can find the man up ahead on the fast break. Miller flies under the radar of the court, very low manitanence. Seem like you have some trouble makers trying to give him a hard time. Sit back and enjoy him playing he's fun to watch, he will help you. Will miss him sixerfan
