Oh boy. Another embarrassing article. These are sure hard times for the BOM.
ddw1950 | 8:05 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
I must be terrible to be so narrow minded not to except different points of view and allow people to worship as they please.
OC | 8:19 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
wow, what a rebuttal. I am sure this will silence the critics....lol
Anonymous | 8:37 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Trolls are out enforece today. If you don't like mormons go to another web site.
RE : Anonymous | 8:53 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
It does not matter about the facts to Mormons that the BOM is false and they do not have the truth; they have "a testimony . In Christianity true faith should lead to the Christ of the Bible not the BoM. The author of the faith.
Anonymous | 9:06 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
TO EACH THIEIR OWN!!!! SO MANY PEOPLE WORRY ABOUT WHAT SOMEONE ELSE IS DOING OR THINKING... WHO CARES !!
wwjd | 9:27 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
The author of the faith is Jesus Christ, not the Bible.
justreadityourself | 9:28 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
You must not know much about it. If you would study it for yourself you might know what you are talking about. Do not bash unless you really know what you are bashing. You obviously have no idea for yourself and go by what you have heard other people have said that do not know either. Get the facts straight first for yourself.
Anonymous | 9:43 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
huh?
SFG | 9:46 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Don't you anti-Mormon's have anything better to do with your time? Get into politics or take up a new hobby.
Anonymous | 9:47 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
You see it through your lens, and we will see it through ours.

I prefer to view it through the lens of faith. Anything that increases out understanding is good information. I appreciate the efforts of those who study these things and give us the information.

I also reserve the right to study and interpret it according to my faith.
Timothy | 9:51 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
What is so obvious about this "remarkable theological feature"is how unremarkable it really is...Really just another juvenile and pathetic attempt to make some sense of Joseph's rambling and self-serving revelations..I agree with most of the critics here that most church members do not want to hear the truth and would not embrace it if they did, they are just too far gone in their delusions;as,in all fairness, most religious zealots are...In response to 8:37,as long as there is a swindle going on under the guise of religion, people are going to speak,no,shout out, that gullible people are being deceived..Besides that, members have the advantage here,as the most biting(and truthful)remarks are censored out by the faithful..And you just wait,if these remarks are printed then soon after the indignation of Hope and Cats will be aroused and I will be denounced as a hopeless reprobate,base-born,and destined for damnation,That is if they are in a rather cheery mood;if worse than I am consigned to being the chief representative of Old Scratch himself...

Re: Re:Anonymous

The Book of Mormon provides another witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ...from the perspective of another nation.

Is it truly so difficult to believe that a branch of the house of Israel may have migrated to this continent?

Is it truly so difficult to imagine that the Lord may have appeared to them after His crucifixion and resurrection?

In the Bible...He mentioned other sheep, that He must also lead, and they would hear His voice and accept Him.

He also informed Israel, who had rejected Him..."Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof."

The Apostle Paul explained that some would believe one thing as truth, and others would believe other things as truth.

He advised that they concentrate on living and believing their own truth, and refrain from mocking and deriding their brothers for believing differently.

Why? Because we all belong to God, and He is able to make His children stand.
To 9:06 | 9:55 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Well,it seems rather obvious that you care;and yes, some people do worry when a very large religious swindle is going on in their mist...
1-2 MOUTH-OFF! | 9:55 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Yeah, some of you need to learn to keep your BIG FAT NOSES out of everyone's business!! and quit telling LIES about everyone!!

let us (for argument sake) say the "BOM" is false. Lets say the "BOM" is NOT the word of GOD. Ok, So How does the BOM take away from Christianity? It builds upon the Gift we have "Bible"

I KNOW the "BOM" to be Correct, I LOVE Elder Hollands Talk this past conference when he said something like “No wicked man could write such a book as this; and no good man would write it, unless it were true and he were commanded of God to do so.”

Regardless of "facts" i KNOW it is true by the Gift our Father in heaven Gave us (Holy Ghost) regardless of what science or anti mormons say, i know they are wrong....

R: SFG | 10:47 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
It may surprise you, but most of who you are calling "antis" may themselves be LDS. Watch-out who you chose to call names or throw rocks at, because It may be your own brother or sister. People love to let their private feeling go loose on Deseret News articles. This is just one more interesting article written, and written to push some buttons on some mighty wired people.
'Becca | 11:02 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Trolls need to find another place to spread thier hate. This is the one and true church of the Savior Jesus Christ. If you can't deal with it just move on.
Anonymous | 11:04 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Based on this article I noe believe the church is true and joseph smith was a prophet. I was in doubt but this is just an amazing story.
To Bullinda | 11:14 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
I do believe you are correct;the locals seem a bit agitated this morning, perhaps it is the warm milk they had for breakfast.. I would be cranky also if someone tried to tell me I could not have a hot cup of Brazil's Best for a wake up call..Yes,there are definite benefits to being a Gentile and I intend to enjoy them..
THT | 11:18 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
I have an idea, how about you anti-mormons get up and go help the tsunami victims in Samoa. Take a page from the LDS Church for once and go help people, have you done any good in the world today?
PV | 11:24 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
This is the value of having access to the original manuscripts--it allows claims to be verified against reality. It also is a caution against relying on much later recollections, particularly from those who have a hidden, or not-so-hidden, agenda. Whitmer's and McLellin's recollections are important, and certainly carry some weight, but need to be measured against the historic record when available.
Hope | 11:25 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
No, sorry Timothy! I am sorrowful that you are so full of anger and hate towards the LDS. I pray for you that one day your heart may be softened and you will seek your Heavenly Father through His Son Jesus Christ! I do not judge you but love you as my brother. The judgement will all come from God when we stand before Him!!
re: Jayeg | 11:26 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
You are the most wishy-washy person on here. I don't think you know what you believe in??? You just enjoy the noise and making some.
To THT | 12:01 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Speak for yourself deary. Why don't you stop being so belligerent towards non-members and go help the tsunami victims and quit griping.
kenny | 12:04 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Maybe its good that the debate and arguments over religion stay in Blogs such as this and not into the hearts of those who are seeking the truth as they are taught this gospel by our missionaries. When our missionaries teach they invoke the spirit, the spirit bears witness to its truth and those who acctept that witness become members of this church. To you anti mormons I would say that you have little to no influence over those who are truly seeking the truth and you are only fanning your faces with your lies.No one is truly listening to you except yourselves.
Copyright? | 12:12 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Revelation about a copyright? How about a revelation about the origin of man. No rational person believes the Adam and Eve story anymore after all the scientific findings concerning evolution. Seems like a revelation about a copyright is something God really wouldn't be too concerned with.
PG | 12:15 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
I think anti's and non-members should be required to register and we will know who are enemies are. These people have a lot to desire and are not even worthy to debate with. Let us step it up ignore all these people!
Timothy | 12:24 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Well, thank you Hope, your remarks are very kind...I would like to point out that you were only in error on one crucial point;that I apparently despise LDS individuals, which is simply not true...I am(and have been for a very long time)married to a faithful,Temple attending with a solid testimony,Mormon woman..I go to Sacrament meetings with her almost every Sunday,I attend church events on most occasions, and we have a very stimulating and rousing Family Home Evening group that meets every Monday night.. I could go on and and on but you get the gist of it...It is not hatred towards any individual,it is much more personal disgust that any logical person could believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet, that the Pope is the vicar of Christ(I attended Catholic schools by the way),That the Koran is an epistle of God,or that L.Ron Hubbard had any more insight into truth than my dogs and cats(Actually I think the animals have more)...So,be critical to my remarks, just do not say that I hate Mormons...
Poor Timothy | 12:36 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
May God have mercy on your soul Timothy! From years of experience I have learned that individuals like yourself are one of two kinds. 1) you cannot accept the LDS church or the BOM because your life is so far from Christ that you would not see the truth if it bit you and 2) your blinded indignation is simply an example of your unwillingness to read the book with a real intent to know one way or the other that it is true or not.

Either way, may God have mercy on your soul.
RE: Facts | 12:40 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Le Grand Richards stated; That the BoM has a "familiar Spirt" (Is 29:4 KJV)" and that the BoM is a "Marvelous Work and Wonder" (Is 29:14)but the Apostles Greek Bible says (Septuagint Is 29:14) "And I will destroy the wisdom of the wise"and Paul repeats it,"for it is written: I will destroy the wisdom of the Wise" (1Cor 1:19)This was a prophecy against the Alliance between Judah and assyria. not the BoM. facts versus testimony
Anonymous | 12:44 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Antis can spew there hate but the caravan will march on. I think the high growth and profile of the church has you all in a tizzy fit. The truth will always rise to the top and in your own time all you anti's will have your conscience to be a 'mormon.' This is the fact as the church is true and I have a testimony to that fact.
JAYEG | 12:45 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
To Re:Jayeg @ 11:26...(aka Dubbs)

I know precisely what I believe in, and what I do not believe in.

I believe in studying from many sources, researching many subjects, and finding my own answers, rather than looking to other men to tell me what I ought to think, say, behave, or believe.

BTW Dubbs...I thought you said you were going to be busy at some sort of convention for the rest of the week.
JAYEG | 12:52 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Re: Jason

All you know is what you believe, and what you hold to be true for yourself. This is what is referred to as a personal testimony, and the seed of a testimony is faith, which when nurtured and nourished, grows and blossoms into testimony.

But truth takes many forms, and wears many guises. One man's truth may well be considered by other men to be falsehood.

Continue to hold fast to your faith in what you believe to be true.

And be patient, and forgiving with those who doubt, or who disbelieve...as the leaders of your faith have admonished the general membership to do.

The purpose of a discussion board is to encourage discussion.

One sided discussions are fruitless.

RE: PG | 12:55 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009

RE: 12:36-- I truly pray someone has mercy for your poor, self centered soul, too.

The LDS Church contributes billions of dollars in aid and relief to all non-members every year. You anti's just need to put a sock in it. You hatred is just getting old.
Fly_on_the_wall | 1:04 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
To the response to Timothy @ 12:36. Is that the response one would expect from the Savior? Why is it the response that is heard from so many Mormons. I am ashamed to be called a Mormon because of comments from Mormons like you.
Angie The Accountant | 1:06 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
People leave the church but cannot leave it alone. To me that tells me it is true and you are just not strong enough to live the standards. You are all weak and it comes across in your hateful comment.
Hope | 1:12 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Jayeg, 9:53 a.m I really enjoyed all your comments! Stay strong and hang on tight to the iron rod! God WILL see us through!!!!To the person who commented that quote "In Christianity true faith should lead to the Christ of the Bible not the BoM". The Christ of the BoM, also known as the Savior, Redeemer, Prince of Peace etc. is the very same Christ that is in the Bible! He is the Son of God, our Heavenly Father! He is our brother who was crucified and resurrected for our sins that we may have eternal life. THEY ARE ONE AND THE SAME! The BoM testifies of all the truths in the Holy Bible. This should be a good thing for all Christianity as even the Bible and its teachings are coming under attack by atheists! We should make a stand together and not turn away from each other in our belief of Christ! All those who follow Christ are CHRISTIANS pure and simple!!!Yes, even LDS! Jesus said "love one another even as I have loved you."
Poor Poor Timothy | 1:14 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
So you do not hate Mormons you are simply an atheisist unwilling to open your mind and heart at the possability that christianity is for real. Experience says that atheists are simply afraid to face their inner truths for the fear that their outward actions, earthly craves or sinful ways andr desires may actually say something about their characture. There is nothing but fear to fear with personal reality looks you straight in the face.

Good luck and hopefully you will put your hatred in religion behind you and look at what you have (family and so forth) and come to realize that it will all end some day if you remain as you are.

Mortals may not forgive you but Jesus will, give him a chance.
Anonymous | 1:18 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
The DNEWS needs to shut down these posts. So much hate towards the Church. I do not think these kind of comment need to be published in the Church's paper. This get tiring day in and day out.
Merv | 1:26 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Some of you need to stay out of your moms powder box, because the fumes and dust are deranging your thinking. However, I believe most comments here are coming from angry Mormons, and not from in-actives nor nonmembers. I know this, because I seem to run into you rascals every Sunday morning during church. All you GRUMPS simply need to repent or be excommunicated.
Big Ben | 1:29 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
I can only imagine that the entire country of Canada is ashamed that they are inclued in this article. When will the stretched of imagination cease in the minds of simple mormons. We pray for you healing and your walk back to follow christ among your bothers.
Dear Poor Timothy | 1:30 p.m. Oct. 16, 2009
I have read the Book Of Mormon four or five times and it gets more ludicrous and nonsensical in each new perusal...And by the by,one does not read an obvious work of fiction expecting to get spiritual truth out of it;simple rule of logic...As to PG(which I guess means the parental guidance you so obviously lack)this country is the not Nazi Germany or the State of Deseret that you seem to yearn and long for, this is America...To Kenny, this is not a blog,it is a comment board, the differences should be obvious..I am not really sure what you mean by"fanning your faces with your lies" could you perhaps enlighten me? As to this article it seems to be just another attempt by church apologists to explain another church mystery to those who require logic and reason in their decisions, and,as usual, intelligent folk see it for what it is,Elmer Gantry double talk..At least those of us bound for perdition ,go there with a clear conscience and the knowledge we were not deceived by fairy tales...
