See, water conservation does no good! When we conserve water, they just issue that many more building permits to expand the population. My vote is no more water conservation!

I have an idea: Start using native plants in landscaping and implement some common-sense conservation rules. Phoenix is actually using the same amount of water today as it did in 1986, due to COMMON SENSE EDUCATION.

Do you really want this area to look like Phoenix? I think there can be a happy medium. Keep conserving - the people are going to come regardless - most of them will be our kids and grandkids. Good article.

Available water should be one of the factors limiting growth. Major water projects interfere with market forces. No more big water projects!

there is a huge underground lake that spans most of utah and suurounding states! even hill airforce base has tapped into it.

I've never heard of this lake. Does any water currently spring from it? How fast does it fill?

Many Utahns (myself included) were appalled when Las Vegas wanted to pipe in water from the Snake Valley so Vegas could continue growing beyond what it had the resources to support. Why then would we support the same thing happening in our state?

Not a word about who the wasatch front would be taking water away from. To degrade the quality of wetlands at the bird refuge and in cache valley would be an outright sin.

I think Wasatch front communities need to recognize and establish growth limits and stick to them. Of course that kind of foresight would be asking too much of selfish people.
Bi-Directional | 1:35 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
With a bi-directional flow design, water that is surplus, in flood like years, could be diverted into the Snake River Basin rather than dumped into a salty lake and then pumped into the desert to evaporate. Think of both possibilities as you design it folks.
Yes! Let's use NATIVE plants.. | 1:48 p.m. Oct. 19, 2009
...and xeriscape!

We SHOULD look as natural as possible (disregarding all the faux Italian McMansions that have nothing to do with this area).

This plan is ridiculous: build an (expensive) pipeline into a new (expensive) reservoir and then watch the (expensive) water evaporate.

A valley should be able to sustain itself through the water that naturally comes into that area. We should not be stealing it from others.

There is no underground lake anywhere in Utah.
If any more water is taken out of the Bear River the Bird Refuge would die. It almost went under this year!
The worst will be to totally disrupt the Eco-system of the Lake. If you ever smelled Lake Srink that is just a preview of things to come. Dust, disease and a plague of insects would really make the Wasatch Front a fun place to live. Don't these dam builders have any ecological sense?
