Was this headline a mistake? Can this really be a Deseret News Headline? First time I can remember seeing a positive spin on relatively negative information.

Usually it is a negative spin on relatively good information.

I like the positive spin. More of this will get people feeling better about things and that will help lift up the economy.

I'd be very interested in knowing how many of these jobs are government jobs as opposed to private-sector ones. And even if they're private-sector, how many of them are the result of government stimulus contracts, such as infrastructure construction jobs? That being said, Wiseoldbanker, consumer sentiment is hardly a reliable indicator of a healthy economy. If you're a central banker/Keynesian, then consumption and spending is everything. But that's far from an indication of a healthy economy.

Hey Oracle,

Do you think the unemployment rate and our recession had anything to do with 8 years of a Republican administration? Time for you to take a mental laxative.

"Job-loss rate..": After losing two lungs and a heart to taxes, the government blames the patient for not running as well as dictated.

NO!

It had nothing to with the liberals favorite made up punching bag.

the real question:

Can liberals stand up like a real man and take responsibilty?
the truth | 4:15 p.m. Oct. 15, 2009
Let's see:

after 6 months of getting unemployment,
and one can no longer get unemployment benefits,

magically the job loss rate improves?

How convenient!

Eventually the money being spent on band aids will run out. Then look out for a real economic crash.

Amazing...the wonderful BO is destroying our economy more slowly. But he is still destroying it by spending rather than cutting taxes. But not to worry, with the disaster that is the Obama Administration, it will speed up when the hyper-inflation hits.

This is not the result of the Bush Administration, it is the result of the effort to spend and tax our way out of recession. Oboma will successfully take us out of recession and straight into depression. If Obama is successful with his plan, we will be 5-trillion more in debt as admitted by Obama and his minions.

It's like trying to get out of foreclosure by buying a new car, new furniture and a whole new wardrobe under the assumption that it keeps you fiscally sound and you will owe less while providing you a job.

It is pure insanity and the very definition of Obama'a fiscal and monetary policy.

You can't blame Obama for the mess that the "W" created. Obama is trying to clean up the mess left by the W.

Everyone knows unemployment is high! What is not known are the games politicians are playing with our relief. For the immediate action of politicians this must show up as media attention during the first 3 minutes of the evening news. At 4:00 EST today everyone send an E-mail to CNN, 4:15 to ABC, 4:30 to CBS and at 4:45 to NBC. Because this is the weekend repeat this on Monday. Also send this to everyone you know for their assistance & support as well! Then cc: your local and national politicians indicating the media is being contacted by thousands of the unemployed

Currently unemployed. And yes once unemployment runs out we are all in for a rude awakening of the economy. My prediction is come April 2010 we will see another crash like Nov 08 in which we will go into freefall.

How many folks who post here are unemployed?

It is time that the GOP step back and look at the states they are from and consider how many are unemployed and are voters.they may be surprised come next election that they get beat out by a little ole lady because of their errogance.
As a solution to this problem so that it stands out in their thick heads we should possibly set up camps of homeless in every state so that these GOP people can see how real the problem is.If nothing else these homeless would have food and shelter in times of need. These camps can be called "little Sam alia"because at least our government supplied food to them in that country and probably the shelters they used.
Why is it that the government "We The People"support continuously turn their backs on us.If you think that our new President cares you are sadly mistaken. He is more interested in his healthcare and foreign relations so that maybe hell get another Nobel prize(for what??).We the people are last on his and the GOPs minds.
Think about it and maybe youll see.

To me the Republican Agenda including the dismantling of the regulatory framework from the savings and loan to the wall street mortgage melt down are the root of the problem. To be unemployed now is to be victimized by this longstanding republican agenda and their stalling of benefit extension is the Katrinazation of unemployed people who are victims of the phony philosophy they devised to cover the special interests that rules their action.

I don't understand why they base it on the percentage of people unemployed. I don't care if you are unemployed in a state with 3 percent unemployment or unemployed in state with 8 percent unemployment. You are still just as unemployed. I'm sure they figure a person's chances of finding employment are better in a low unemployment state and want to discourage people from sitting around and not making a real effort to look, but there are people like my husband making a serious attempt to find employment. Soon we will be out on the street.
