Deep may be the word, | 9:48 p.m. Oct. 14, 2009
But it won't keep the Cougars from losing in the Spectrum this year. The Aggies are in the same boat depth wise, and we didn't even give significant playing time to two of our leading scorers when we played BYU last year and they squeaked by us.

Oh i can't wait...it's this time of year again. BYU has already beaten the Aggies in football this year and now it's time to beat them in basketball again. I know all you aggie fans have been waiting since last year to get another chance at us(we all knew you didn't really have a chance in football...hence the infamous statement i hear every year around football season.."wait till basketball season"). I will admit that it will be tough to win in the spectrum but please, if USU does win, just remember it was one game, you didn't just win the national championship! It should be a good game! Go cougars!

As an Aggie, you should be smart enough to know not to count your chickens before they hatch.

How embarrassing would it be for the Aggies to lose to the Cougars in the Spectrum?
Doon | 1:10 a.m. Oct. 15, 2009
Well, even if the Aggies lose by 20 at home, they'll be celebrating like they won, isn't that right USU fans? Just like football.
gaggies | 7:35 a.m. Oct. 15, 2009
we didnt get beat by 50! we are the champions!!

With Tavernari as Byu's go to guy, there should be nothing to fear.
Question? will Tavenari | 8:14 a.m. Oct. 15, 2009
continue to shoot BYU out of games? It it "ME" ball again this year boys?

The Spectrum is always a very difficult place to play and that game is a toss-up in any given year. The one-sided rivalryness of it, the fans with all that pent up emotion after football season being right on top of the opposing team, the timekeeper screwing the visitors...it's just not an easy win any way you look at it.

All smack talk aside, Stew Morril continues to do more with less than any coach in the state and I have nothing but respect for his program. I'd actually like to see BYU-USU play a home-home every year in basketball since it's always a high energy game and it would generally help the SOS of both teams since both BYU and USU are perennial 20 win teams. It would be a much better game than most of BYU's non-conference home games and both USU and BYU have difficulty getting quality opponents to play on their home courts. The series would probably split almost every year.

Cougarf@n, you're right on. I wish we could back to the home and home every year. I think it means a lot to both teams and fanbases and as those of us who have been around long enough to know, this rivalry has a deep and rich history.
USU = soft on the boards | 12:52 p.m. Oct. 15, 2009
Hate to say it, but BYU will win the USU game because of their size.
Losing Wilkinson hurts us more than BYU losing Cummard (they have 3 guys that can man that spot and Abouo plays better defense than Cummard)

Wesley is really good in conference against smaller teams, but not against teams as big as BYU. He really struggled last year in that game.
Their 2 freshman (Tyler Haws and Brandon Davies) are more talented than any player we have.

Stu is awesome, but at some point talent trumps coaching and BYU has that much talent now.

At least we always have a chance at home.

BTW Cougar fans, none of us care about football in Logan. We're a basketball school.

To Gaggies: Your response is the very reason I am a USU alum and a BYU fan.

This season in BB is going to a great one for both schools. It will be exciting when both teams play.

Great expectations await.

Austin Collie said it correct, "When you're doing what's right off the field or court, good things happen and someone is watching over you". I beleive that and the Cougars will win.
Tavernari | 3:23 p.m. Oct. 15, 2009
"With Tavernari as Byu's go to guy, there should be nothing to fear."

If Tavernari was BYU's only go to guy, you might be correct since Tavernari is famous for his hot and cold shooting streaks.

Fortunately for BYU this season, the Cougars are loaded with go to guys.
State - BYU Rivalry | 4:22 p.m. Oct. 15, 2009
Two great basketball programs - should be a great contest this year. As the article points out, BYU has better depth, but playing in the Spectrum is a challenge. Interesting that no one is talking about the Utes . . .
Whoa whoa, "On Our Side" | 4:51 p.m. Oct. 15, 2009
Are you saying that BYU is going to win basketball games just because they are more righteous? Gentle, just take a look at Kobe Bryant. It doesn't matter who's more righteous, it only matter who is more talented and who has worked harder combined. Get real man
Ags | 5:51 p.m. Oct. 15, 2009
Why so much discussion about the Cougars and Aggies? Word has it the Utes are going to be hot this year. Oh... never mind.

I commend the Aggie fans for being fans of their teams even when they beat down. That is impressive and something Utes and Cougars could learn from.
Re: 4:51 Post | 5:51 p.m. Oct. 15, 2009
I think he was being facetious. The guy is a Ute or Utah St. troll, don't take them seriously.

What do you mean WE? The first one to comment at a BYU article? The troll of trolls? OK, WE.
wait | 6:36 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
Unfort. you can be as deep as a 5000 foot well... only 5 players get on the court at the same time. It is your starting five that matter. The Y has a bunch of good players, not great players.

same old year.
Ernest T. Bass | 11:33 a.m. Oct. 16, 2009
These guys are going to rock the NCAA Tourny!!! BYU has a long and proud tradition of doing great in the Tourny!! Can't wait to see them play!
