I suppose it is possible that neither Andrew George or Dennis Pitta will be playing at the next level but it is unlikely. One or both will play. Even with Coats and Harline one made it to the NFL, and Pitta is a better tight end than Harline was. Harline did'nt have the strength nor the size.
Pita is awesome. Too bad for George. He is nearly as good. I wish he was around another year so that he could get some more lime light. Great young man. He'll do well in the NFL.
Pitta and George will likely play in the NFL. Harline was not as big and physical but he had the best hands of any tightend I have ever watched. The guy could catch anything. Weddle who was NFL material couldn't even stop him when he was right in his grill. Harline was not NFL caliber but was one of the best ncaa tightends in 2006. Well I dont know why im going off on how good Harline was but just my opinion.
Chad Lewis was a very good Pro player but his college numbers wouldn't even put him in the top 10 of Tight Ends to have played at BYU.
It's great to have someone like Lewis tutoring these guys. Particularly helping them understand that it takes more than being a good receiver to make it in the pros. The ability to take out a linebacker is exactly why Coats is in his 3rd season with the Bengals and Harline didn't make it out of training camp. Chris Smith was a lot like Harline - great receiver but didn't have the size or toughness to block in the NFL. Lewis and Mili went in as good receivers and adequate blockers and then improved their blocking enough to have nice NFL careers. Hudson was much of the same. Pitta is widely considered the best TE in college so he will obviously get his chance. George gets good national recognition too - enough that he should also be invited to the combine. At that point no one will care what his stats are. They just want to see what he can do in NFL type drills. I see both making an NFL team. Thanks for giving your time back to the program Lewis!!!
that troll utefan gets on here and talks about how much better the ute tight-ends are (not sure who they are anyway).
Good job Pitta, keep up the good work!
I think that George would be an all-star if he wasn't playing on the same field as Pitta, it's just like Chad Lewis and Mili in '96. I think both will be drafted and do well in the NFL, best of luck to both of them.
Pitta is good but he's hardly a tight end? REally, how many times does he line up in 3 point anyway. They have him listed as TE but he's really a receiver who blocks sometimes. And I thought Harline would make it in the NFL...Coats was never good, not the least bit. But just shows that size is paramount in the NFL.
"Chad Lewis was a very good Pro player but his college numbers wouldn't even put him in the top 10 of Tight Ends to have played at BYU."
The one number that stands out about Chad Lewis is 300. That's the number of Utah fans and players that peed their pants when Chad backed them down from tearing down out goal post.
Daniel Coates was a freshman all american... at wide reciever. He didn't put up huge numbers because he was playing behind one of the best (recieving) college tight ends in the history of the game. Had Harline not been there, he would have put up impressive numbers as well. Oh, and how many other people who weigh over 260 lbs have a 38" verticle jump?
If Pitta isn't a tight end for not getting in a 3 point stance, the whole BYU line may not be linemen. BYU doesn't line up in a 3 point all that often. Pitta will be given a chance, all you can ask for. No way George makes the combine, but will be given ample chances in NFL workouts.
Pitta's definitely more than a little arrogant. Best wishes to George with his potential NFL career.
Congrats Pitta, you're an awesome player.
Pitta and George will both go pro! Mark my words! Maybe George will have to get on a team as a free agent but he has the skills and size to make an impact
has great tight ends. I wish we could start doing the same for safeties, cornerbacks, etc.
Pitta's play on the field does far more talking than he ever does about himself.
Lewis could also block field goals like a machine. Very nice.
AWESOME!
They said Austin Collie was too small and look at him now. It is always unpredictable on how someone will fair at the next level. But, normally through hard work, a little bit of luck and timing, one can be successful in the NFL. Ithink they could both fair well next year, barring any ugly injuries.
Good job Chad!!
