Mr. Clean Up | 6:15 p.m. Oct. 14, 2009
I'll go clean them up for $5,000 with a shovel and my pickup truck. Ever wonder where your tax money ends up?
$5000???? | 7:33 p.m. Oct. 14, 2009
Okay, I will do it for $4000!
Teej | 7:43 p.m. Oct. 14, 2009
I'll clean them up for $4999.99, I'll shove them in a used 1986 blazer I just bought for $400, then I'll turn it in to cash for clunkers for $4500 and get over $9000 to spend for a new pickup that I still won't afford, but will still "pick-up" plenty of fine little ladies in the interim!!!! Beat that!

Exagerating costs | 3:50 a.m. Oct. 15, 2009
Love it when these clean ups get such high clean up costs attached to it. Workers who do the cleanup are already on the government payroll being paid regardless of where the work or the work they do, and not an extra cost. Then the vehicles and gas are already paid for by the departments and not an extra cost. Recycling shops gladly accept these items without charging the state. So where do these cost numbers come from? The magic calculator in every government office?

It seems like every time government workers have to do some work it costs the taxpayers more and is beyond duties of long coffee breaks and office hour card game tournaments.

$5000 bucks to clean up this little bit of junk. Ridiculous. I could do this for less than a $1000 but won't. Somebody is going to get a fat paycheck for this little cleanup.

Good grief... $5000.00 just to pick up some old tv's and computer monitors? Who are they trying to kid?
Heck I'll do it for $1000.00
Anonymous | 6:35 a.m. Oct. 15, 2009
I would even do it for $3000. Come on guys lets keep this bidding going!
Great fiscal responsibility BLM did you get too much money from oil and gas leases and now think you can just blow it on anything you like

I bet the Cub or Girl scouts would do it for free as a community service project.
This is ridiculous.....bureaucracy at it's best!

Plenty of people need a job and would do it for a lot less!
Environmental bed-wetting | 8:59 a.m. Oct. 15, 2009
The high cost of cleanup is due to the fact that the BLM is treating this waste as "hazardous waste", even though it does not fit the current description of hazardous waste. Therefore, they need a certified hazwaste contractor to clean it up.

This is where the hand-wringing statements over human and animal health come from. In reality, the environmental and human health hazards from a broken TV are trivial at best.

Leaded glass? I thought the problem with CRT's was the mercury vapor and phosphorous.

Lead in glass is not free lead, it would not likely be absorbed into the body even if you ground the glass into sand and ate the sand.
get more dems | 10:53 a.m. Oct. 15, 2009
Yeah, just put some more Dems in office! That way they can get overtime for the job too! Oh, and they'd surely schedule it for the next Holiday. Call a Boy Scout Troop and ask for a service project! FREE, everybody wins! When do we vote?

sounds like a typical shooting area, give it a few months and it will all be blown to pieces.

scheeze! I'm quitting employment if my tax dollars are being wasted on waste like this! You can't tell me road crews couldn't do this in a few trips as they are going by there anyway!
