Take Away the Stop Lights | 11:12 a.m. Oct. 14, 2009
Didn't we learn our lesson with Bangerter Hwy? Bangerter is a mess with all of the traffic lights. From 90th to 54th we will have another Bangerter. Find the money to build proper intersections with over passes and ramps.

Do not put street lights on it.make off ramps and on ramps like the freeway,it will end up like banagater highway a big waste of time !!!!!!!
NO STOPLIGHTS! | 11:53 a.m. Oct. 14, 2009
Don't even bother building this if stoplights are involved. Interchanges with on/off ramps are the only thing possible if the road is going to work.

This will be awesome. No stop lights!!! Finally!

Bangerter Highway's lights are horrible. We need a true, real interstate on the west side.
Stoplights!? | 12:16 p.m. Oct. 14, 2009
I have to agree. It is not a highway if it has stop lights. They are just going to have to redo the lighted intersections anyway in the future. Why not do it right the first time!

Great. We are going to spend four years build the 'road to nowhere'. Oh, and it isn't even a freeway yet. Just two frontage roads that don't actually connect to any major highways at either end.

Better to leave this money in the bank for the time being than pay interest on this fiasco. Or spend the construction money on acquiring right-of-way right now, while real estate is cheap. This cut-off section of road will not be of real use to anyone.

Bangerter is a Useless Highway north of about 90th south! I drive extra miles just so I can take Highway 111 north so I don't have to stop for 3-4 light cycles to get through 5 different intersections. Getting across Bangerter going East or West is a joke as well. Taking 78th going west to cross Bangerter can sometimes take 15+ minutes.

You may want to check out the whole plan before getting your panties in a bunch. They will be expanding it to a FREEway after they acquire and build several different phases.

Go to UDOT's website and click on the Mountain View Corridor (MVC) links, and you may find yourself a little dumbfounded. This also includes an expansion of Trax down 5600 South, when it is all said and done. Just because they don't have the money, doesn't mean they haven't planned for it. They are just getting what they can done now, instead of letting traffic get even worse than it already is.

I agree with everyone else. Bangerter is so frustrating. Living in Kearns I make the choice of which is the lesser of two evils - driving down Bangerter or trying to CROSS Bangerter. We don't need another blockage for East West traffic. We need more East West routes! What a waste!

Happy to finally see a start on what will eventually be a freeway for the west side of the valley. Interesting that many are so distraught over a new road with better access. Thanks for having your cup half empty with a crack down the side.

Hooray for a new road.

The freeway wont have lights, it is the frontage roads that will have lights
47th S | 5:34 p.m. Oct. 14, 2009
I wish it was going to 47th or 41st south. I can't wait until it goes all the way to 201.

We do not need a road further west. We need Bangerter needs to be turned into a freeway. That would improve east west traffic and reduce accidents in the many intersections along Bangerter.

At least for West Valley and Kearns which do not benefit from the old or new Bingham Highway, the greater need is for an east-west corridor. For those living west of Bangerter, that road has simply added another long light which grinds traffic to a halt during rush hour(s). The Mt View Corridor when completed will even further slow traffic and increase travel time for those of us to the west of it. It will also clobber the businesses now located along 5600 West, but it appears per current schedules that they won't have to worry about bankruptsy for another 5 or 6 years.

Utah County businesses should like this. It will allow commuters access without navigating the only east-west freeway on route 201 to I215 or I15 for south bounders. However, the UDOT website does say the first phases of the project will be signalized. I am not clear on whether that means Bangerter Hwy part deux or this is temporary until better intersections can be constructed. If it is signalized, save the money. We need a system with overpasses that do not hamper the traffic flow worse than it is now. A better mass transit plan that elevates similar to Chicago or Seattle is money well spent. More surface transit is not comprehensive in my opinion. With that said, build the corridor properly so that no signalization slows the flow.

There are as many as three phases to MVC. The first phase is a road like Bangerter with lights. Over time, the lights will go away in favor of interchanges (a la I-15). This is a process to get the freeway without making it a toll road which apparently nobody wants.

If you want a toll, (first estimates were 0.25/mile), then you can have your freeway now but no one will use it.

I'll deal with the lights. Also, UDOT's WEGO projects in Taylorsville change Bangerter to a Continuous Flow Intersection at 5400 and 4700 South next year with more to come. (this is similar to the 3500 South & Bangerter intersection.)

Has anyone noticed an improvement with the new 35th - Bangerter intersection? I still spend an awful lot of time sitting at a Continuous Flow Intersection.

//Utah County businesses should like this.//

As a resident of the southern part of the Salt Lake Valley, there is NO need to go to Happy Valley. The S Towne mall area has what I need 98.472% of the time.

No reason to stop in UtCo except a pitstop on the way to Vega$
