Congrats Max. Great game Saturday. Keep them coming.
When in doubt hand the ball off the Harvey (THE BEAST) Unga.
Max isn't even on the radar when compared to Detmer. Don't get me wrong Hall is a decent QB but not anywhere near Detmer's level. It pains me to recall all those Saturdays watching Ty pull rabbits out of his hat... expecially against the Utes.
hall is the best QB in byu history and a very nice person. He deserves to break every record and win the heisman. unfortunately, on his best day he doesn't compare to the great Brian Johnson or even Cain. Did he beat Utah? nope and he will lose again. If you compare his numbers to Cain for this year, there is no comparison.
Apparently UteFan has forgotten about the Max Hall to Austin Collie pass two years ago when Max Hall and the Cougars did beat Utah.
Sheesh. Get a clue.
hall and detmer are different styles, but both great in their own right. Hall seems to be a more methodical QB and has a more balanced offense than Detmer, who relied more on passing. I don't think you can say that Hall is the best QB in BYU history, but he is equal among some of the many greats.
i believe that brown played at Timpview High in Provo - rock on Timpview!
(Ute fans are so lame that come on here just to demean. How pathetic!!)
Personally, Detmer is a legend, and I wouldn't want Hall to beat his record. Hall can win games yes, but he's nowhere in the same league as Detmer. It's very likely he'll at least tie. I want him to win all his games, but it's always sad to see Detmer's amazing records by taken over.
Unga is the most injury prone player I have ever seen... They cant keep that guy healthy for 1 game... Common guys
"WHAT'S HIS NUMBER?: No, sophomore Braden Brown is not going through an identity crisis."
What's the deal with Braden Brown? I was looking at the roster because I remember him playing for Highland and it says he "... served a Church mission to San Juan, Puerto Rico ..." but he graduated from Highland in 2007, Redshirted in 2008 and is playing in 2009.
I think Max Hall is a decent college quaterback. I don't think he will make it in the NFL. Ty Detmer was in the NFL for 12 years. Hall has some advantages over Detmer. I think he has a stronger arm and I think he is a little more physichal. Nobody in my opinion, college or pros has ever thrown a ball with more touch than Ty Detmer. Ty is off in Texas somewhere living the good life and Max is our guy. I have slowly thought more of Max as a quaterback over the years. If he can continue to win games encluding wins over TCU and Utah he will in my mind be worthy of mention with any of BYU's great quaterbacks. Go Max and the Cougars !
I have to agree with RR. Although I would love to see BYU win the rest of their games, I don't think that Max deserves the record. I won't remember Max as one of the great BYU QB's, but as a decent QB that threw tones of interceptions and choked in the majority of the big games. In the clutch was when Detmer was at his best.
could be a shortened mission like Max's stint in Des Moines, IA. Detmer never had a running back like Unga to hand the ball off to. So Detmer was great. Hall is good to above average (based upon expectations for the BYU QB position). Brian Johnson was a good qb for the Ute system. just like Alex Smith.
Congrats Hall, I hope you get the record! Then I hope it's broken and then it's broken etc.!!!
Go Cougars!
At the time I write this, there are 12 comments on a story about BYU's quarterback, three of which are from obvious Ute Trolls, one of which was the second comment posted.
Meanwhile, a parallel story about Utah's quarterback has produced only 4 comments, all of which are from Ute fans. There are no BYU fans trolling there.
Yet another example of the devastating effects of Little Brother Syndrome. Those poor Utah fans; can anyone help them get over their obsession with BYU?
And anyone who thinks Max Hall is a lousy quarterback unworthy of being mentioned in the same breath as Ty Detmer is not a BYU fan.
Hall rocks. I can't believe anyone would say he doesn't "deserve" the record. He deserves it if he earns it. He's a great QB in spite of what the haters say about interceptions. I have no doubt he's one of the top-5 BYU Qb's of all time, and everyone will be saying that if he beats TCU and Utah. We won't know how he does in the NFL until the time comes, but for now I'm just happy he's leading our team.
He might only be a top 5 BYU QB, but I'd take him over just about any Utah QB in history. Smith and Johnson put together great senior seasons, but Johnson was injury prone and Smith only had one good year. Hall has lead BYU for three exceptionally successful seasons. I don't care what the haters say, he's a baller and we're lucky to have him.
Man I love Detmer.
Actually there always is a comparison. Unfortunately for you the comparison is not a good one for your argument that Cain is way better than Hall.
PASSING ATT COMP YDS TD INT PCT RATING
T. Cain 156 99 1162 8 5 63.5 136.55
M. Hall 180 125 1723 13 10 69.4 162.57
Utah has played several Sisters of the Poor and Oregon.
BYU has played Oklahoma, FSU and some of the same sisters.
Max has a much higher rating than Cain. And yes Hall has beaten Utah (2007). Has Cain beaten BYU?
If BYU wins 5 more games Hall deserves the record because he earned it!
No matter how well he finishes the season, he will always be known as the "turnover kid".
Utah QBs set the standard from which byu QBs are measured. Great QBs like Brian Johnson and Terrance Cain make it difficult for byu QBs to get recognition. This is why this article is really about Utah QBs and how byu QBs don't measure up.
