What are the kids at this wonderful school thinking. Lets do something about the Davis School District. A complete overhaul is in order.

I just want to say that this entire situation is completely castIng a shadow over Layton High. It is all anyone at this school talks about, and all of this media coverage is staining the reputation of our school. What ever charges are brought against both Everton and Mr. Smith, I just hope that it will be RESOLVED QUICKLY so that everyone can MOVE ON. After I graduate, and when I tell people where I graduated from, I don't want them to immediately think of inappropriate faculty members and school-wide scandals, because that is not what Layton High School is about.

This situation coupled with the Everton case has certainly made LHS unable to focus on their real goals of great education. LHS has a long and proud history. During this investigation, I hope the district has the opportunity to thoroughly look and then assure parents, students, and alumni that LHS is back to the high standards we look for.

I applaud the district thus far though. Placing Everton on leave during that investigation and now Mr. Smith allows those investigating to do their jobs. The districts action thus far is appreciated.

This school has needed a cleansing of inefficient, idle, and dim administration and teachers for years. Smith should have retired more than 15 years ago. The student body of this school have been getting less than they deserve for years. There has been cover up after cover up to hide indiscretions and incompetence. I hope this cleans things out.

These two situations are nothing new to the school or any other school for that matter.. I believe Layton High School is one of the better if not the best school in the state as far as quality of learning goes.. These matters should not be allowed to blacken the eye of a worderful school..

I just transfered my kids from West High to Layton High. What was I thinking?
Lets wait on this to play out | 2:23 p.m. Oct. 14, 2009
There is a system in place to verify the accusations and deal with them.. thus far, NO laws have been broken, maybe workplace policies, but that is still to be determined. Many companies (and the military) have policies of not dating other employees, these are work place policies, not laws and in the worst case scenario, that is what happened here, inappropriate behavior in the work place, no laws broken, (according to police reports), no child molesters, no predators, maybe just poor judgment of the part of an adult and student. Everyone is making a bid deal of this, it isn’t a big deal..

I’m more concerned about the poor quality of teachers and coaches we have working with our most precious community, our youth... if we do a better job on monitoring them, we'll have fewer issues later on..

The suspension of the principal may have less to do with the teacher/student than other issues. Paul Smith is a fine man.. he has served honorable for 40 years..

Regardless of where this ends up.. we forget about the good in these people in times like this.

I went to Layton High school many years ago and now all of my children have passed through its doors as well. As a parent, I have wished for changes in the administration for years.

I was dumbfounded at the first assembly my sophomore year when the student body gave a standing ovation to Vaughn Barber, the first principal of Layton High. It never occurred to me that students could love an administrator so much. I later found out through personal experience that he really cared for, and looked out for his students.

Mr. Smith entered the year after I graduated and I was stunned to see him still there years later as my children started. I hold the Davis School Board directly responsible for allowing this man to remain for so long and allow the status quo to cause any slack in oversight or policy.

These current events are not what Layton High is all about. It is a great school with many good teachers and programs. It has a lot to offer and I hope this will shake loose some old thinking in favor of something better.

I am neither surprised or disappointed.
