Boo Hoo! I've taken a 30% cut and my wife has taken a 50% cut. Get rid of the unions and save some money!

Huh?

What unions?

doggie

I hope Corroon holds his ground and doesn't get rolled by Hatch and the unions.

retired county employee

I think that Corroon could balance the budget without cutting workers salaries, if he would only look to his own budget now that all other departments and divisions have taken the knife to their budgets.

Don't be fooled

Corroon is doing this for one reason and one reason only--to beef up his fan base for a run at the governorship. It is sad that he is willing to sacrifice the good of the County for his own political gain. $10 a year per household is all it would take to protect the people of Salt Lake County. Now, law enforcement and prosecution will suffer because of Corroon's selfish actions. The citizens will now end up paying much more than $10 per year in costs they will suffer as victims of increased crime!

RH

For those who say boo hoo to county employees, I hope you never need our services, police, fire, sewer, etc. We have no unions, and if we did, this would not be happening right now. I have lost well over $200 per month on my paycheck the last 3 years from increased insurance costs, no pay raise, no decent cost of living, etc. The county employee has taken the pay axe, and we cannot take any more. We too have families, homes, bills, etc. to pay. Now Mayor Corroon is going to cause more problems for us, just to pursue his political future. Typical Democrat at work and Sheriff Winder is right there with him.

Concerned

The County pay cut will directly effect my family. The County wastes dollars to save dimes. The largest expense for any organization is payroll and benefits. That being said how many managers and supervisors does the county need. They need the front line workers that perform the tasks that keep us safe. Safe from crime, road hazards, water hazards, health hazards. Maybe we should consider cutting a few of the managers and supervisors and their perks. How many county employers need a cell phone provided by the county? How many county employes need to drive a county vehical to and from work? Those are my tax dollars they are wasting and my family they are impacting.
I hope that the recent vote to bring in ASCME as a Union of the employees of Salt Lake County. If they ever needed union protection it is now!

Really?

Whenever someone says the government is too big, keep in mind that it is jobs you are talking about. And jobs is what we need right now. If a county employees lose their jobs, they can't buy the goods and services of the economy around them. Which will effect everyone's job. And the County employees already have a union - UPEA. Bringing in the new union was a democrat deal that will only hurt the county in the long run.

@Don't Be Fooled

You know the second someone proposed a $10 a year fee/tax/whatever, every resident of the county would be up in arms about tax hikes. I am not saying its not a good idea, but you would lose that battle very quickly.

$10 tax

$10 tax/fee which is paid once a year sounds less harmful than cutting wages from each county employee. Which would reduce employee's income hundreds maybe even thousands per year.
