Who is "She"? Huh?
None of the news media reported the fact that Heather taught Woodwinds half-time at American Fork Junior High School. In Alpine School District, ninth grade students are in the junior high building. Today, many students at American Fork Junior High were without a teacher in the classroom. Many of these junior high students were also on the bus that flipped. Our prayers should also go out to the students who attend the junior high.
I am from a completely different school hours away from American fork. I marched at the same competion that they were on thier way home from. I have only done one or two competitions but I would like everyone to know that once you enter marching band you become a part of a huge family that includes all the marchers. Even though i didn't know her I still cried for her and those that were in the bus.
Sad that society lost a leader. Where do we find such people? How much we spend on training them! And to lose one this way, ... well, it hurts.
AF do the right thing. Put up a bronze statue of her on the grounds somewhere. Make it life size and make it good!!!
That is a noble and decent way to honor a fallen leader.
What a Guardian Angel on Earth! May her name& memory be forever honored!
I'm an alum of American Fork High School, and through tears am still feeling so proud of these students who have endured such a life-changing event. The greatest memorial and tribute you can give Heather is to make the utmost of the lives she, through the miraculous grace of God, saved through her unforgettable heroism. Bless you all; you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Three of my children have been in Timpview's MB. They've all graduated now but I am going to the BYU competition anyway. I want to be there so I can cheer for AF and cry with them. There will probably be many others from other schools who feel the same way and want to do the same thing. Hopefully BYU has thought of this and will have extra box office workers and ticket takers so that no one will miss AF's performance. It might be a good idea to come at least 45 min early anyway.
WHAT Time do they play at BYU today?
AFHS MB's performance time is 9:30pm.
Heather and I went to high school together. We have many of the same friends. Our community has lost an incredible person. My prayers are with her family during this tragic time.
My kids and many others at Paradigm High School chose to wear black and red today in a show of solidarity with AF High. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family!
Heather taught our kids at Riverton High and she did a phenomenal job with the band and musicals. She inspired them to do better. She made a lasting impression and we will always remember her wonderful talents.
There will be a candlelight service tonight Oct 13, at 7:00 at the American Leadership Academy, 1172 Del Monte Rd, Spanish Fork,
for those of us who loved and will miss Heather...Her life has touched so many....

We at ALA also are in mourning for Heather today. Most of the students and faculty are wearing Red or Black in her memory. Heather was on faculty from the beginning year of ALA and taught band and headed up the music dept. Her sisters husband is on the board and she was related to several others on the faculty and staff. She still taught the ALA Drill team. So news of her passing has hit Southern Utah County hard. She will sorely be missed.
Her smile and laugh were contagious and her hard work ethic is to be praised by all.
Our ALA Eagle thoughts and prayers go to Heathers family and the Cavemen of AF High.
It's amazing how the students still practice - with the added emotional value to the music - in honor of their beloved band director.
She is going to be very proud. What a hero she is to her students.
One poster asked the time AF performs tonight. Another responded 9:30. The article said 9:00. I would want to err on the side of caution and be there for a 9:00 performance not 9:30.
As a parent of a high school marching band member in Topeka, Kansas, I am saddened to hear of your lost of a positive role model for your youth. As a teacher, I am saddened that your district and school has lost a beloved family member. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.
God Bless You All,
Tonya Campbell (Topeka, Kansas)
I am a mother of two daughters who play windwinds for a college band and who had played in a high school band. When I read the article from the lancaster pa newspaper i felt very sad and shed some tears. The band director where they went to high school ephrata high pa was once a wind wood director that helped the clarinets. My daughter plays the clarinet the other ones plays the saxophone. I feel for the american fork high school band and admire their dedication to go on and perform the show. They showed tremondous strength and dedicatin and love for their loss director. I send my deepest sympathy to the school and family of heather. God bless u all you are in my thought and prayers. Heathers brave action saved those in the bus. She is definitely a hero who will be missed by those who knew her and to those who love marching band. I want to send my congratulation on a show well done. I would love to see the show. I bet it was a great show with the best performance they ever did for their love for Heather. Shes in heaven smileing proudly.
