It's very unfortunate that these kind of things happen. Apparently he worked out hard this past summer on his game and conditioning. That being said he still has not proven to basketball wise people that he was going to have a break out year. Those kind of things have to be proven by play not say! The one thing that I have always questioned with C.J. has been his heart. You have to play with passion and smarts to be a player in this league. Hopefully we will see this side of him when he returns.
At least until CJ comes back, it looks like Wes Mathews may make the cut.
It's not all that bad, however. Besides Mathews, there's AK and Korver, plus Millsap may seen time at the 3.
There is also a possibility, from the bench, to have a lineup that has Maynor at the 1, Price at the 2, and Brewer at the 3. Personally, I think Brewer is a natural 3 anyhow, that can easily switch on the other end to take advantage of his athletic defensive skills.
Korver at small forward? You must be joking. He can't guard a fire hydrant.
Prepare to see alot of Korver "hand-claps" under the basket as Korver catches the ball after a made basket by his man.
Thats how he shows us he is disappointed by his inability to stop his man AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN.
The scary thing is you all know what I am talking about.
I am not sure why this guy gets the love he does other than he seems like a nice person and probably is. That won't win us many games though. Check the stats--he was 59th in 3pt shooing last season. Okur was 6th.
What did we bring Korver here to do again? Oh ya, 3 pt shooting. He is severely average as far as 3 point shooters go.
@Scary
Actually, Korver had a pretty good run last season when Miles was out.
AK will start and Millsap will get some minutes there as well. The remaining minutes will come from increasing PT for Brewer and Korver a bit instead of splitting them 24/24 at the off-guard spot.
ruined any chance of Alomond helping this team. Its funny to me that the jazz desperately need outside shooting, but Sloan destroys players with that skill.
Jerry complained constantly that the lakers packed it in against us because we couldn't hit outside shots. You need shooters to spread the floor and make it easier for the inside game. I get it that almond had some liabilities, but so does every player.
Jerry wants to do it HIS way, and when it fails he is looking for someone to blame, its been this way for 23 years. Sloan acts tough, talks tough, but throws everyone under the bus when HIS way fails. Take personal responsibility Jerry, and correct YOUR mistakes.
When Kover is healthy he is a real 3 point threat. He could be a greater threat if he had some plays designed for him. Korver is a skilled shooter and could get the hot hand with an improved wrist. We're all hoping Korver gets going this season! He doesn't get nearly enough credit for defense. He constantly works on improving and gives his all every game...get off his back Scary!
By the way, Jazz, way to go on passing on DeJuan Blair. Is it really so hard to find a decent number 3 point guard that it's worth passing on a serviceable big man? Granted we have 2 fairly mobile guys his size, but Boozer is gone next year. Anyway, just seems like we always waste the draft with pretty good players but pass up the guys with real potential. Then we pick up the late draft guys with inflated values because of a couple of decent seasons (Boozer), paying way too much and never able to get rid of them.
Good thing he ruined Horney, Griffith, Stock, and all of our other good shooters. What it came down to is Almond mentally couldn't take the pressure. If you want to be mad get after the fact the Jazz wasted another first round pick.
Good Article Jody
Sloan did not destroy Almond. Sheesh. Wake up. The guy could not play defense.
Just look--nobody in the NBA wants Almond either. Even teams that don't play good defense have not signed Almond. He can shoot the ball in a D-league game, but that is it.
Shooting outside shots does not win games. Defense does.
Blair is not the answer. Didn't you read that the Spurs' coach Papavich doesn't know what to do with him. He is a short wide body. At 6'6" he's too short to guard legitimate big guys and too slow to guard others his size. Millsap is so much better than Blair. We don't need Blair. We needed a back-up point guard. And that's exactly what we got. Open your eyes.
Is he in the league?
Bottom line is our best player is hurt and it will have an affect in the start of the season. You can't replace CJ.
In the Jazz system the 2 and 3 are interchangeable on offense. And why all the worry about defense. Its not like the Jazz play much defense either.
Unless your Talking about BOOZER. He is the best defensive player in the league. He defends his injuries, his trade demands, divorce, not divorce. That guy can defend all of his problems.
Boozer For DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE year
He should have been a lawyer
Korver at 59th in 3 pt shooting. Sinc he does not have designed plays he shoots only when he decides he can hit. Either a poor shot or poor decision maker. Either way Jazz are fine without him.
Lakers did pack it in last year in playoffs but mostly due to Brewer. Has he been taking lessons on missing from Hornacek? Hornacek came as shooting coach and since then Korver has tanked (59th in NBA 3 point shooting)and AK has gone off the charts, now the cancer is spreading to Brewer.
Hornacek was a decent player and is abysmal as a coach.
Thank goodness Boozer never found a home as we will need him this year.
Almond can't even find a home with D'Antoni who is an offense first sort of coach. I feel bad for him but would feel worse if he played for the Jazz.
Good article
miles i hope that was an inposter and not you with the post how CJ cannot be replaced and is best player
you cannot be serious..
We can replace him, there is much depth with a injury free squad. Gaynor could play off guard too I think and be good at times
I am happy with one thing
this roster is better than 2008-2009 imagine if O Connor made a deal or two it could have been championship caliber

In the Jazz system the 2 and 3 are the most important positions on offense. And why all the worry about defense. The Jazz play great defense.
Unless your Talking about Brewer. He is the worst defensive player in the league.
AK For DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE year
I should have been a lawyer
How is Brewer the worst defensive player in the league when he is one of the top stealer's in the league. And that is not because he just defends the passing lanes good he actually strips the ball often from whoever is close to him when he can.
AK is a good choice on defense.
But seeing that you don't even investigate stats or even put two and two together about a players previous year on the subject you are speaking of, then how in the heck could you be a lawyer.
Going off of your random UN-justified outburst You would probably come out with the conclusion that Shaq is the best 3 point shooter to huh.
AK? Brewer? Korver?
I don't think small forward is our problem. Who do we have at center besides Okur? The real issue on the roster is lack of a defensive threat. The least of our worries should be small forward. I hardly call the loss of CJ Miles a detrimental blow to the team. He's a great player and everything, but we have other players on the roster that can do much of the same with him gone.
We need defense. The Jazz hardly defended at all last year, and yielded way too many points. The last thing we need is yet another player to chuck the ball at the basket and not defend. When will the writers stop gabbing about our gaping hole at small forward?
almond just got waived by the magic. utah should pick him back up
