It's nice to see Utah back in the rankings; at least in one poll.
The Frogs are closing the gap on Boise State in the Coaches Poll, the poll that counts for the BCS.
Don't be surprised to see the Broncos lose at Tulsa this Wednesday. Tulsa is 4-1 and won't have the distraction of playing on the Smurf turf. Neither team played this weekend, so both should be fresh.
Good to see the AP poll giving the UTES some love at #24 this week.
GO UTES we are back in the polls where we belong!!
hey kewgs, look who's back in the Top 25 -- and not too far behind you!
Has got to be the most loved team in America. Year in and year out they lose to a subpar PAC-10 team and after spending a week or 2 out of the top 10 are right back in the top 5. They lost to Washington and they are ranked at #5 ahead of some good undefeated teams!?
Does the AP see something I don't??? I am huge Ute fan, but I think the AP media voters were very generous! I can only think two things, they fell short in tying and (MAYBE) beating Oregon who is now kicking butt and taking names, and beating an improved CSU team. Other than that, not sure they are deserving of the #24 ranking. They are not ranked in Coaches Poll (understandable), plus these polls suck!!! I guess we will take what we can get. BYU was stagnant in AP and moved up one in Coaches, regardless of their 59-21 beatdown. But that goes to show you, that pollsters do not respect teams like BYU who pound mediocre teams and get lucky or stomped against AQ BCS conf teams. Utah would get the same treatment but they don't because when the opportunity presents its self, they beat and destroy BCS opponents. BYU needs to do that when given the chance! Otherwise, no one will respect the MWC conference. SEC and Big 10, CONSTANT respect, ranked or not!
in the AP poll at No. 24.
Congrats!!!!

not moving up in the polls? They stay at 18 after the drubbing of UNLV in Vegas? College football is getting hard to watch anymore it's just commercial football. It's the same reason the Lakers or Yankees have more fans than any other sports teams because that what ESPN and other national sports media programs shove down our throats. Love the Lakers Love Kobe Bryant Love this team Love that team blah blah blah. In college football it's love Florida Love Tebow Love the SEC real competition is getting thrown under the bus.
U gotta love it when all the mtn west games played on the Mtn don't even get a mention on ESPN. Could there be some bad blood??? Probably. Without even a note from ESPN, it will be tough for any Mtn west team to do much nationally.
If Utah keeps improving, they will catch (and perhaps bypass) BYU when the 2 meet in Nov.
Utah 42 BYU 18
"Utah would get the same treatment but they don't because when the opportunity presents its self, they beat and destroy BCS opponents."
BYU 14 OU 13
Oregon 31 utah 24
You were saying...???
Oregon got its lofty ranking by beating some weak teams this season, including a very overrated Cal team.
Wow, utah fans's heads sure do get a lot bigger after having to come from behind to beat a weak CSU team. Let's see: BYU 42 CSU 23 vs. utah 24 CSU 17. Oh and you know those 21 pts u had to score to come from behind? BYU was up 21-0 on CSU in the 1st quarter.
But please stay in the rankings if u can so it'll look better when we beat you like drum in November.
Utah will only surpass BYU in the polls if the Cougars lose before then. Should BYU beat TCU in a couple of weeks they will approach the top 10 again. Having said all this, I'm growing tired of the politics and perception of the polls. Yes the Cougars got embarassed by FSU but they still have a win over #3 Oklahoma and blowouts against everyone else. They deserve to be higher than #18.
The MWC Conference is like R Danger field - they get no respect.
There is no way BSU is better than TCU.
Utah should be in the top 20 - since BCS teams get favored treatment based on history - Utah should get votes based on the combined records of last year and this year.
BYU has a stinker game against a floundering FSU and drops like a rock. Other BCS teams have one loss and ride high Penn State has a D2 schedule and gets BCS favoritism.
Shortly TCU, Utah & BYU will beat each other up and will most likely be dropped out of the top 20 as irrelevant. Rather than be respected for the conference strength.
How long will this oppression last? How long will the BCS discrimination last? When will reason win out over greed and bias?
They MWC made their own bed. I don't know how you can complain about rankings. BYU lost to a team in their home stadium 54-28 that is now 0-3 in the ACC.
TCU hasn't made astatement. CLEMSON is 2-3 that is their banner win on the year.
Utah struggled to beat a team that was coming off a loss to IDAHO.
This mountain network is a joke. The conference did this solely for more money. The only time any MWC team will be on national TV is on a road non conference game or a bowl game. Craig Thompson knew this when he signed the TV deal.
Boise State may be overated. But the fact that they play on ESPN 5 times a year in time slots where it is the only game to watch gives them great exposure. Nobody will see BYU, Utah or TCU play the rest of the season until they play their bowl games.
MWC fans ought to be thrilled they have 3 teams in the top 25 with no national TV exposure.
AP Last week
Boise State 6th 1185 pts
TCU 10th 940 pts
BYU 18th 403 pts
Utah unranked 31 pts
AP This week
Boise State 5th 1199
TCU 12th 917
BYU 18th 490 pts
Utah 24th 76 pts (1 pt ahead of 25th Notre Dame which plays USC Saturday)
Coaches Last week
Boise State 6th 1133 pts
TCU 9th 965 pts
BYU 20th 353 pts
Utah unranked 31 pts
Coaches This week
Boise State 6th 1170 pts
TCU 8th 979 pts
BYU 19th 441 pts
Utah unranked 49 pts
BYU gained 87 pts AP, 88 pts Coaches
Utah gain 45 pts AP, 18 pts Coaches
It's nice to see Utah back in the AP poll, but BYU actually pulled farther ahead of Utah in points. TCU fell farther behind Boise State in the AP, gained a spot in the Coaches, but fell farther behind in points.
Utah has little chance of catching BYU unless the Cougars lose to TCU. The 3-team round-robin between BYU, TCU and Utah will decide the MWC championship. A loss by any of those three to another conference team will drop them out of the MWC championship race.
BYU is about where they deserve to be this week. While I do think BYU should move up about a spot or so a week on average as long as they keep winning big, there weren't a lot of losses in the top-25 so a one spot jump in the Coaches poll and staying put in the AP is about right. As the many SEC & Big 12 ranked teams start to knock each other off there will be opportunities for BYU to move up.
I was really surprised to see Utah jump into the AP poll this week after barely pulling it out against CSU. BYU actually dropped in the polls after beating CSU handily, but that only shows that your specific ranking has a lot to do with the teams winning and losing around you. It's great to have three MWC teams ranked in the AP top 25 again.
has lost only 2 games out of their last 27. Ugly or not, Utah is finding ways to win on a consistant basis. Utah tends to get better as the season goes on. Utah is fine riding low under the radar for now. They will peak in November and catch some teams by surprise. Go Utes!
Go Gators. G O G A T O R S
Great to have the home team at the top spot.
I love the SEC. Great games and great competition every week and very very good athletes. By far the best conference over the past 10 years or longer. Yes...Utah spanked Alabama in the Sugar Bowl but please people.....put BYU, Utah, TCU, or BSU in the SEC and watch what happens over a long physical season. This year or last year each of these schools would be lucky win 33% of their conference games. With that said....the MWC is the best non BCS conference and hopefully get taken in by the BCS within a few years.
Utah has only lost once this season, but the Utes haven't played that well either.
