USU, once again, found a way to dominate a football team and still pull defeat from the jaws of victory.
After playing Utah, Texas A&M, & BYU and not being blown out allowed self to get hope up. Too Soon!!!
Turbin is a stud, would have had well over 200 yards offense if not for myriad penalties.
I think USU has accounted for a significant chunk of our opponents points. This team keeps turning over the ball and gift-wrapping points for the other team. I believe every game we've played we've gifted 10-20 points to the opposing team. CAN NOT WIN games when spotting them 10-20 points.
UGGHHHH.
Maybe next year.
Optimism springs eternal in the fall in Aggieland.
Same ol', same ol'. This team has no idea on what it takes to win.
I watched the game, and USU really did dominate NMSU. The penalties were what killed us. Seriously. If the game had been called the same on both sides of the ball, USU wins by 21+. They only turned it over once, and, yes, it was costly. But they should've been able to recover from that. The touchdown that got called back, three big runs that put them in the red zone got called back, and a bunch of other crappy calls (unsportsmanlike conduct for trying to dive into the end zone when being pushed out?) Not next year. This year. Can't give up hope on this season because of one poorly officiated game.
USU wasn't blown out by BYU? It was 35-10 with 2 seconds left. Okay, maybe not a blowout but USU wasn't even close.
This game breaks my heart
Very interesting that BYU fans have to get on here and comment, but to be expected.
However there are no excuses, the penalties come down to coaching and what can you say after a full length field of penalties plus 28 yards. Pathetic performance, completely unacceptable.
If USU can't win this game maybe we should step down. This royally ticks me off.
One of the worst officiated games ever-- how can the refs sleep tonight? How can NMSU even celebrate their unearned win. Agree with Aggie below:
Aggie posted "I watched the game, and USU really did dominate NMSU. The penalties were what killed us. Seriously. If the game had been called the same on both sides of the ball, USU wins by 21+. I don't understand the comment by "Really"! Did this individual watch the same game I did? USU and their coaches should not have to be held accountable for the actions of some inept or biased referees. Way too many inaccurate calls against USU. Ridiculous. Step down from what? USU would have won this game with any set of semi-competent officials.
hahahaha you guys are taking forward and back steps like youre performing a dance.....dance all the way to an under .500 season hahahahaha
I can't believe USU was favored by 11. I should have bet my life savings on NMSU. Totally predictable. I've been following the Aggies for 30 years and it is just more of the same patheticness.
OUCH. This loss was a dagger...a real coulda/shoulda... Yes, we had much more in penalties than NMSU, but we had every chance to win by moving the ball and converting on short-yardage third-downs in the second half (especially the fourth quarter). The failure to control the ball and make even a few plays when we needed them most was the key to this loss. The penalties and special teams play didn't help. Give NMSU credit, they made plays when they needed to and we didn't.
Back to the drawing board.
I am frustrated by the loss, but more frustrated by the reffing...I think I know what the NBA refs are doing while on "hold out" - they are reffing WAC college football games in New Mexico. What a joke. What bias. I hope Scott Barnes asks for WAC Commish to review this game. It was totally a reffing buyout by New Mexico. 2 huge Turbin runs called back, a Borel huge run called back on a holding call that the flag was thrown right after the hike. Are you kidding me? The final kick return that broke us I watched 2 clipping fouls not get called. What a joke...Sorry Coach Anderson and players you deserved the win. Keep your heads up and put it behind you - move forward from this and let Scott Barnes and WAC Commish take this one. Go Big Blue
I am shocked at this! I was at the game last year when we whipped New Mexico. This should have been an easy win for Utah State! Absolutely PATHETIC!
Aggies might be more competitive, but their record is the same as it has been year after year.
Truly a low point for me as an Aggie fan...honeymoon's over Gary.
This one hurts. This was the one WAC game that USU would almost surely be expected to win. NMSU was the worst team in the WAC before this game. If USU doesn't pick up two more wins by the end of the season, they will be the worst team in the WAC.
I'am a BYU fan and read this article because I like USU also. Why I read this comment board, I don't know. But, to the guy that said he should have bet his life savings; at 30-1 odds, you would have ended up with $545. Right?
It's always the easy way out to blame the refs. Utah State should have come out and completely outplayed this team. They didn't do it. You can't blame the refs for that.
the bottom line: a win is a win; a loss is a loss -- I've sat through a ton of moral victories, poorly officiated games, and all the excuses that go with losing -- and at the end of the year we only talk about the wins and losses.
You can't blame anyone but the players and coaches for this loss. It's one thing to watch a defense give a game away, but this one was lost on the offensive line. OL coach needs to teach more discipline regarding penalties. Two big plays were negated because of stupid holding plays...that really did happen. Officials were fine! On top of that, what ever happened to hardnosed Gary Anderson taking risks to win games. At least the punter got some good practice on 4th & 1's. If you want to win games, you have to takes risks. Gary Anderson looked like a coward in this game. Good luck next week. I sure hope we can avoid 1-5.
