If Senator Stephenson is so worried about voter turnout, he should push to do away with the caucus/convention system. There only a few vote, and they are generally there to further their personal agenda.
What is wrong with trusting in the judgement of elected representatives? If the elected school board or city council thinks it is prudent to hold a June election, should they not be able to? Or do we have to give all our authority to the legistature to make all those decisions for us? Where is local control? Senator Stephenson will be the first to critize the Federal Government for over stepping their authority and trampling on states rights, well . . . .

No law or election should be validated unless a majority of eligible voters, min 75%, cast their votes. In other words this stops a minority number of citizens controling our legislators and our laws for the majority who have not voted. The voters of Utah are considered an evil part of elections and try to keep all non agreeable voters away from the polls.

These bills, ballots, laws, and campaigns are run to get the proponents of an issue to cast their ballots and shun the informing others that their is an election. I too have seen this in action and was disgusted that I was not aware of the pending vote.

The only way to avoid this type of selective voter turn out is to make all elections and voted issues must have a minimum number of registered voter turnout to pass any confirmation. This would put more pressure on insuring there is an informed public knowing what is happening. It's not because voters are lazy as many will claim, its because they are not informed by an act of omission to inform.

Senator Howard Stephenson: the poster boy of letting your everyday job determine how you vote in the legislature. Also the poster boy of why Utah needs term limits.

If voters don't turn out, then it is their own faults. We don't need our state government to hold our hands in life. I guess Utah Republicans are all about creating a nanny state. Utah Republicans are really nothing but socialists in capitalistic clothing.

So, what happens if not enough people turn out to vote? If only 49% of eligible voters turn out to vote in an election, and that prevents the election from being certified, what happens?

Do the incumbents stay in? Does government just stop or go away?

"... this stops a minority number of citizens controling our legislators and our laws for the majority who have not voted."

If the majority chooses not to vote, they deserve to be controlled by those who do vote - it is their choice and that is the natural consequence. If you do not want others speaking for you, then use your vote and speak for yourself.
