Not everyone should have guns.

Where were these 'gun packers' when we needed boots on the ground in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. The gun doesn't make the man.

This could have been so easily avoided. No Bluffdale Neighborhood Watchman should be sent our with less than and assault rifle. We need more firepower.

neighborhood watch? | 9:02 a.m. Oct. 10, 2009
i agree noone should have guns, but what of the so-called neighborhood watch effort? i am sure all people must be just as concerned as these neighborhood watchmen when we see two girls walking down the street that we must investigate to determine their right to be there. a tragedy, but there must be more to this story, their weapons and their harassment of these 2 girls.

He took his gun out spoiling for a fight. His actions were premeditatied and he deserves to go to jail.
GUNS | 9:31 a.m. Oct. 10, 2009
This guy sounds like he was a loose cannon that night. He should serve time for this. And just a reminder that if you carry a gun be prepared to use it and ALL of the consequences that will come after.

We are given Serbeck's version of the shooting and then told that Campos' is substantially different. Why is Campos' version not reported? All that follows is an excerpt from the 911 call that appears to be edited and, frankly, does not cast Campos in a very favorable light. I would also like to know what Troy Peterson's version of the story is. He was in the car with Serbeck. Is his version different from Campos' and Serbeck's?

Guns don't kill people, they severely wound and paralyze people.

Sounds like a great neighborhood to live in. Crimes being committed, vigilantes posse formed. Paranoid suburbanites running around with guns and shooting each other. Are any houses for sale in the neighborhood?
1st Prize... | 11:39 a.m. Oct. 10, 2009
Campos gets the prize for "Worst Performance of Duty as a Self-Appointed Neighborhood Vigilante". Now his daughter won't have her Dad around at all because he wanted to play the tough guy, smooth move.
You know what they say, "Common sense ain't so common."
Fair Trial? | 12:04 p.m. Oct. 10, 2009
I'm not sure this man can get a fair trial considering the way the media has reported the facts. Anyone who was in the courtroom knows that the victim's testimony was very different from his own witnesses. There were multiple discrepancies between the two. It is interesting how the media sensationalizes this story without stating all the facts. Channel 2 reported that Serbecks testimony was identical to Petersons. Not true. The whole truth has not been told, and it will be in time. Things are not always as they seem. I believe it is our right to have our own opinions, but if those opinions are based on inadequate reporting, they become skewed. My hope is that there will be enough people who are willing to hold their judgment to call to the jury.
And for the record, it is a wonderful neighborhood to live in.

Anyone that carry's a gun, by law is supposed to be held to a higher standard of conduct and care.

If it's proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Campos went so far as to pull the trigger when as it appears (based on what's been reported so far from day 1) that at that exact moment neither he nor any others present "were facing eminent danger", then his punishment should fit the crime w/enhancements for having a gun on his person in the 1st place.

If he doesn't like being held to that higher standard? I say "too darn bad", he should have thought about that before he purchased the gun let alone point it at another human being with a round in the chamber and his finger on the trigger.

If he were an honorable person he'd tell the truth, stand-up and take his punishment for his mistakes and errors in judgment and ask for forgiveness from his victims.

Sincerely,
Gun owner for 40yrs. that's never pointed it at another human being and will do everything possible to avoid the need to.

Tough guys who lust for guns. No good ever comes from it, folks. Guns are WAY overrated.
Jury Trial? | 10:16 p.m. Oct. 10, 2009
I'm sure Mr. Serbeck would love to have a jury decide his fate like Mr. Campos seeks as well as many others. Yes the facts will need to be heard before the jury reaches a decision. Unfortunately, though, Serbeck had his fate decided by Campos, who acted as judge, jury, and executioner. Now Campos will leave it to his attorney to pull out all the stops to get him off. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts searching out "informants" to start throwing mud in Serbeck's direction just to raise reasonable doubt. I hope he doesn't. Hasn't he already done enough damage to Serbeck?

I went to the trial. Serbeck and petersons stories are not identical. In my opinion, the defendant seems a bit fishy. His stories were not matching. I am not on anyones side but went to the court to see for myself the story behind the news. There were many reporters there. It suprises me how each story came out different and very exaggerated. I think Reggie deserves a jury. I understand damage had been done to serbeck however we were not there the night it happened and having children of my own. If this happened to my daughter, instincts do take over to want to protect our family. There should be no judgment either way unless you go to the trial and hear yourself both sides and listen to your heart. There is definetely more to it than a man that shot another man and paralyzed him! wow ok, and details are?....
