Wouldn't be great if Jesus would simply come back to Earth and announce which Christian Church was the correct one? Why all the suspense?

These people keep allowing their kids not to get the medical care they need, their kids sometimes die and they get into trouble for it.

I propose a solution.

For those people in this religious community of legal age do a study. When ever they get ill, let a doctor diagnose them. Then let their faith community pray for them.

On the other side, compare this with stastics of how successful medical science is for that particular illness.

After a large enough study has been done. Compare the two healing methods.

Where faith and prayer is superior or of equal value, let them deal with their kids in their way. Where faith and prayer are obviously lacking compared to medical science,

Put their religious community on notice that for these illnesses, we will not tolerate them not taking their children to the doctor, and they will be prosecuted if they insist.

Many of my family and friends in Utah think that amazing (miracle?) medical healing is exclusive to the Mormon church. Looking at the Christian Science website, I see that they are very focused on praying, faith, and miracle healing with little medical interaction.

Cool article. It is nice to see bridges being built. I really hope that those being critical on this board are not LDS. From one Mormon to another, that would be extremely hypocritical.

Thank you for this article. I drive by a Christian Science church every day and have always wondered about it but always get too busy to look it up. Now I understand it a little better.

I'm sorry. I missed the bridge-building part. What bridges are being built? It is nice to learn about woman-made religions, and how they differ in their theology. It's similar to the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Community of Christ.

I like knowing that the church isn't forcing people to avoid medical care-- free choice; but I also find it interesting that the medical profession more and more is encouraging people to turn to prayer as the highest most permanent solution and that there are far more mistakes made in medicine than in healing through prayer. No reason we can't heal people by relying on prayer as they did two thousand years ago. I suppose medical care grew as people got lazy about relying on God and now medicine is a god. Maybe it's time to go back to basics. With so many terrible things happening in the world, there's got to be a better way than what we're doing. Thanks for the interesting article.
