"local officials were topping off a soccer stadium I didn't think Checketts could afford."

He couldn't, Rock -- he did it out of The Taxpayers $. From our wallets to his, it is how Checketts and most sports owners roll. They not only accept the dollars the willing pay for their product, they find a way to extract it from the uninterested and unwilling by using the modern Sheriff of Nottingham's to rob from the poor and give to the rich using the tax system.

Where is Robin Hood when you need him? I'd say I hope CheckeTT$ loses his shirt on the Rams or Real Tinto's, but if his local franchise loses money I'm sure we the taxpayers will pick up the bill -- again.

I was glad that he brought a major league team to a minor League town.

That said...I don't see him landing the Rams. I think there are more qualified bidders.

Brad,

Your comments about Rush seem mis-informed. Have you ever listened to even a full three hours of his show or were you echoing the sterotype for some other purpose? You could have talked of Rush's passion for the NFL and his loyalty to Missouri or his pioneering efforts in talk radio but you chose to take a sterotyped ceap shot. Disappointing.

You would be saying this if we had a NFL team in the state, more then just hotel tax will go into a NFL stadium, I promise you that.

Wow--this has got to be a first. A DesNews article/column about the stadium that acknowledges (at least tacitly) that most of the money for Rio Tinto came from private investors. Good job!

" the whole future of MLS has always been a bit uncertain."
Well that isn't true. There were 5 or 6 cities trying to add frachises with a fee of $40 mil and a stadium to be added. Seattle has about 32k people a game. The league as a whole is down only 765 during the worst recession in decades! RSL attendance is only down 106 but there are still 2 more games that will likely raise that. All things considered MLS is doing very, very well.
