Great job Dixie! After watching the Flyers dismantle Snow Canyon, in football, at Walt Brooks Stadium, it was great to hear that the Dixie Flyer Golf team is continuing it's dynasty-- even in the 4A ranks! GO FLYERS!
Best team in the state | 5:45 a.m. Oct. 9, 2009
Dixie obviouly has a great program top to bottom. five straight. Congrats on that. I wonder how they would do in 5A and Region 1. The junior golf ranking do not include them up too high compared to the 5A kids. It would be interesting to see a tournament of champions.
Good job | 8:39 a.m. Oct. 9, 2009
You would think in a sport like golf there would not be such a dynasty. However, there is no disputing the results. Nice job Dixie.

Dixie would give 5A a run for its money. I think Dixie could take State at any level. It would be very tight in 5A though and actually make it close for them, which would help them play under pressure. Oh well, they have dominated every level they have been in so far.

they have an advantage over all the north teams, playing year round. They always have some of the best talent in the state and it seems like every year a new guy comes along thats even better than the last one. I remember when drca played, and everyone thought it might be a dropoff when he left and they moved to 4A. But nothings changed and they are still dominating all the competition, albeit if they were in 5A I think 3-5 teams could beat them, definitely syracuse and fremont.

Every year its an advantage yet we have to play in the worst weather up north when it counts to win, so get over the good weather thing, you have the advantage not us. It's also Jurca. If the UHSAA would just have the darn tourney in St. George where it should be anyway then the kids up north could play nicer courses in better weather, its the golf mecca of utah for gosh sakes!!! Have a clue UHSAA. Let the coaches vote on where to have it next time.

The sun must only shine over Dixie High School athletes during the winter months since Hurricane, Pine View, and Snow Canyon do not regularly trade off with the Flyers for state championships. For those of you in northern Utah who think you can afford winter rates on the courses, who can get a round of golf in after school but before dark, and who can actually get a tee time with most of Northern Utah's snowbird population living in St. George during November, December, and January; you are dreaming. Even if they could get on, golf is such a mental sport, kids (even Dixie's) need to take several months off; and they do. Most kids in the north can get in a round starting in March. That gives them 8 months to 'catch up'. They just haven't caught up lately.(Once in the past eight years). Dixie's 577 would have beaten Syracuse's 579.
Great Kids, Great Coaching, Great Parents. There's your recipe.
Drive it into the fairway, putt uphill, never leave it short, and don't take it out on your clubs or your bag. Golf's a great game.

Would be nice to get them on the same golf course on the same day. 5A definitely had the worst of the weather and was playing a tougher course. The final day at Glen Eagle they had the tees set pretty easy. Willey is head and shoulders above everyone in 4A. 5A has Kida, Fishburn, Ogden,
Purser, Parkinson, and Fotu who have proved themselves all summer as well as the high school season. My hats off to both Willey and Kida as well as Dixie and Syracuse.
Dixie & Syracuse | 6:31 p.m. Oct. 9, 2009
Congrats to Syracuse and Dixie on state championship titles. Both are great teams, but to say Dixie would beat Syracuse at Glen Eagle or anywhere is a very strong statement. No one will ever know who is better, but we do know these teams are the best of 4A and 5A.

What we need is a Dixie vs Syracuse match.......Lets do it!!!

Check the UJGA rankings to see whether the 5A or 4A has the better players. I do not see many southern players compared to nothern players.

First, 5A, 4A, 3A are a school classification based on number of students, not the capability of their student athletes! Second, get over the weather issue. Most St. George junior golfers take off most of the winter months as well. Third, the UJGA rankings don't mean squat, because the UJGA plays all but one tournament in Northern Utah, so most Southern Utah junior golfers can't afford to travel all summer to play UJGA tournaments, so they don't. Fourth, out of 10 rounds this season (including the 2 at State), Dixie had 5 (50%) with 4-man team totals under par, and 2 others less than 5-over par! Four of those 7 rounds were on courses much more difficult and less forgiving of errant shots than the wide-open Glen Eagle course! Fifth, 5 straight State titles, 5 straight Individual Medalists, and 8 out the last 9 titles. How do you spell dynasty? D-I-X-I-E. And, sixth, give McCoy Willey his props. He's a great player. However, he has a teammate, Connor VanGilder that is every bit as capable and deserves to be in the included in the discussion. FLYERS GOLF ROCKS!!!
Team Play | 8:26 p.m. Oct. 10, 2009
Dixie has six strong players, different players have stepped up to keep Dixie on top. Wiley and Van Gilder have played consistently below par all year on extremely difficult courses, but many of the other players have brought in low scores that many teams would envy. GREAT PLAY DIXIE!!!!!!!

Didn't the Northern All Star team recently beat the Southern All Stars IN ST GEORGE...? Read about it!

Is 4A better is 5A better? Who really cares. this is for the kids not the parents. can't everyone just be happy we live in a country that our kids can enjoy the great game of golf and have that opportunity. So many kids, go to bed worrying if there house will get bombed in the night.Get over it people. You can't compare with scores etc. golf is a sport that changes daily even hourly, so to argue that some team or individual is better is a joke.Anyone, any team on a given day can beat the other. end of story. Willey, Fishburn, Purser,Ogden, Kida, Parkinson top 6 players in the state hands down and compete nationally fairly well too. but remember people there is alot of talent out there. We are a little too narrow minded at times, and need to realize how good other juniors around the country really are. Start teeing it up from 7100 yards like they do in college and watch the scores go up. These top 6 mentioned will have great college careers. But will need to improve even more, they are no Tiger Woods yet.

This debate on whether or not The Flyers can beat the 5A schools is ridiculous. Just the fact that a 4A school with 3A numbers can even compete with the 5A schools is incredible. 5A should be embarrassed that people are even questioning if they could beat dixie. And talking to Vs. The southern team didn't have their best players playing. Neither Willey(1st Individual), Van Gilder(3rd individual) or Schone(5th individual) played in that tournament.
