Apparently a person can only voice an opinion when the council says that they can----
Apparently Free Speech rules don't apply to government meetings.

I could understand it if the person is being disruptive, but if the opinions are stated in a calm manner, I would protest being prohibited rom speaking.

Interesting situation.

So apparently a citizen can only speak when the council wants them to----
What ever happened to Free Speech?

As long as the comments are given in a calm manner, the government should listen and the citizens, who by the way have a right to voice their opinions, should be able to speak any time.

Very interesting.

One must decide whether to honestly look at the facts or to play the political game of emotional assertions.
The council is being accused of doing the very thing that opponents are doing "ready, fire, aim"
Those who are honest with them selves must also be willing to look at the weaknesses of their own arguments and the strength of opposing arguments. Emotional tactics does not help to find real answers and real solutions for Mapleton's benefit.

the land gets developed whether or not it's in Mapleton. Might as well have a SAY in how it's developed Mapleton Residents! Otherwise it remains in Spanish Fork, it still gets developed, and Spanish Fork would receive the tax gains (sales tax from Commercial Development along Highway 6). The outcry doesn't make sense.

Doesn't the adoption of the resolution actually open a 60 day plus public comment period... and eventually end in 1 or more public meetings? That's seems to me like a lot of time for residents to voice. I also agree that there is no voice for Mapleton if the property remains in Spanish. Ironic... in one breath they cry for a voice, and in the next say they don't want it by leaving it in Spanish Fork?

Right. Build there before the site is cleaned up and watch everyone get sick from Nitro Headaches or worse.

I think that the issue with the contaminated ground is that if Mapleton accepts the property, they have to build pipes to extend the water system into that land. Then the contaminated water can spread up the lines into whatever township is connected. Presidio maintains that the site was cleaned up to the minimum standards DEQ set up, but offers to do any additional work if problems arise. Once those pipes are connected and the water is no longer safe, then it's too late. Once my kids have health issues from that water, it's too late. Or do you honestly think that any patch-ups you do after the fact can compensate for putting our kids health at risk for extra money? With all this confidence in the DEQ saying the site is fine, I'm glad that government agencies responsible for health issues are perfect and have never made mistakes. Yeah, whatever... The developer and "economic adviser" who spoke at the meeting don't live in Mapleton. They don't drink our water, their families don't live here, and their kids won't grow up here.
