I am glad these guys were caught. Desecrating a historical statue should carry even more charges.
Drunk? Felony for stealing a bronze object while drunk? R U kidding me? Were they planning on reselling it on the streets of Salt Lake City, Provo, St. George?
Please. Drunk and disorderly. That's all. Jail and a fine.
Now if they opened the bronze book and ripped out a few pages and then destroyed those pages with a hot hot fire, then yes, "throw the book at 'em."
Otherwise, it is drunk and disorderly, and mischieviousness wanton vandalism. 30 days, 1000 dollar fine, and the shame of it all.
So as long as you are drunk, you can do whatever you want and not have to face the same charges as a person who isn't drunk would?
Liberal Ute fans - no doubt.
Chris B 8:36, didn't BYU just dismiss a football player for a DUI? get off your high horse.
I don't care what religion is involved. Don't take other people' stuff, don't damage what is not yours. That goes for everyone.
Yes, and I have no problem with these two drinking. I never said I did. Lern to reed. It's that they destroyed other's property that I have a problem with.
It's the value, and intention of the actors that makes it a felony here.
Because the total cost of the damage, and the fact that they intentionally took the book, it becomes a felony rather than a misdemeanor or a tort.
So what you are saying is that the missionaries that desecrated a catholic statue should have been punished more severely?
How much does the brass Book of Mormon weight. Did it take two of them to carry it.
It's bronze not brass and it probably only weighs thirty pounds if it was hollow
