Teach their kids that "when the going gets tough, let's transfer"
Good for Coach Hathaway | 10:59 p.m. Oct. 7, 2009
Chris, glad to hear you got cleared. I don't know you nor have every heard of you, but to have the UHSAA try to punish you is ridiculous.

Suspicions can lead to a disaster. We all know who Chris is now because of this story. Regardless, congrats on being cleared.

Now get out and continue to help kids!!!

Here we go again. The classes were too big - READ - my kid won't make the team or if he does won't get playing time. I understand that. It is a farce though to say the reason you transferred was because the class sizes were too big. I guess the remaining 1196 kids in the class will just have to suffer having class sizes that are too big. Is the UHSAA okay with this transfer? Seems like they are. Let's stop pretending to enforce the play where you live rule. Let the kids play where they want to. Maybe base the classifications on how teams compete year in and year out. Up and coming programs could be moved up based on win/loss criteria. Teams that had losing records could be moved down. Region classification would take place at the end of the year based on performance. Probably too complicated but it is a thought. I know this might not work for all of the high schools but it might for those in UT, Salt Lake and Davis Counties.

My son played for Chris a few years ago. He is good coach and a great guy. Good luck at Jordan. You will be missed by the Riverton kids.
are you kidding | 12:25 p.m. Oct. 8, 2009
All you have to do is read the other story involving the head coach. He lied to the UHSAA about another player not practicing with them. What a role model!!!
What a joke! | 12:31 p.m. Oct. 8, 2009
This coach was caught in a lie to the UHSAA. Read the other article about the player who has to sit because both the coach and player lied about practicing with the team. Shouldn't the coach be punished too?
Riverton | 1:14 p.m. Oct. 8, 2009
Is the joke. They have a problem with someone leaving to go coach at Jordan. Riverton didn't give him a chance to help coach. He left. It shouldn't even be a story. It's a story because some cry baby from Riverton didn't like it and has a problem with someone over at Jordan. UHSAA is also a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Apparently they have a big problem with one particular kid trying to play football at Jordan. It has been done elsewhere and I have not seen it get this much pub. I feel bad for the kid. He didn't harm anybody or cause damage to anything. UHSAA is trying to control this kid. They should get community service 20 hours at the dunking booth.
about the coach | 1:17 p.m. Oct. 8, 2009
you wont find a coaching staff that cares more about the kids at the school than the Football staff at Jordan High! Coach Kjar is an amazing coach and role model if you spend 1 day over at that school and just watch the way those students respond and enjoy day to do life at that school because of him you wouldnt be posting rediculous articles like that! Coach Kjar and the staff at JHS are great with the young athletes at JHS and the athletes look up to them..i should know..as a former Jordan student and athlete under coach kjar...what bothers me most about all these posts though...this is Coach Kjar's first year at head coach...cut him some slack he's still learning and same with the Principal its his first full year being the head administrator at JHS...come on people...these are great guys and great student athletes...give them a break and stay out of it!

Riverton has been and will continue to lose good football players every year. With one of the biggest little league football programs in the COUNTRY they should be contending for state championships year in and year out. Sounds like a coaching problem there. Riverton baseball rocks, basketball too, as well as many other sports at Riverton. Please fix FOOTBALL.

Re: About the coach

Seriously, I would love JHS to win some games. Not since Birch has Jordan even been close to championship form.

Get in some coaches that KNOW JHS that love the tradition and know how to win. Keep the Riverton Kids, Keep the Alta kids and keep on loosing.

I bet we could find somebody the Kids will love, he will love them back and not have to lie about playing kids when he shouldn't have. How about restoring Jordan to winning, mediocrity sucks.
feel sorry for coach | 3:17 p.m. Oct. 8, 2009
I feel sorry for these coaches that are put in these situations by the parents of these players. It wouldn't surprise me if the dad of this player was pushing the coaches to let his kid practice. Dads-if think you might want your child to go to a school out of your boundary do not send him to a tryout at the boundary school.
Re: waa waa waa | 3:17 p.m. Oct. 8, 2009
At least your football program isn't like Copper Hills or Taylorsville. Now there's something to cry about. In fact, the head coach at CH this year came from Riverton. Please Riverton, take him back. He's a nice guy, but not a very good leader.
Re:JHS Alum | 3:43 p.m. Oct. 8, 2009
Maybe you should do the job Alum your a football brain. Lets see you. You could put in that hi octane running attack back in your day. Back in the day of leather helmets. Yeah back in the day when a high score was 14-7. Seriously!

Why would the kids choose February to transfer? Four football friends, all at the same time. We are not getting the whole story.

It doesn't really matter, I suppose, with the current rules anyway. Does anyone really care?

The only way there will be change here is if the county school district adopts a no transfer policy for everyone, not just fball players.
Not true | 10:33 p.m. Oct. 8, 2009
These kids did not transfer in February. They were enrolled at Oquirrh Hills Middle School until the end of school in June.

You are correct Anonymous, there is MUCH more to this situation.

It is time to adopt some rules that have a backbone!
Re: Anonymous | 8:46 a.m. Oct. 9, 2009
The article didn't say they transfered in February it said they registered. There is a difference. They can register for high school while still in middle school.
