Utah tourism industry has been dodging blows

The only thing the tourist industry can do is wait and see. Most likely tourism will take decades to show a real gain as the economy is on a flat line and progressively getting worse. Some blips here and there are not signs of recovery or an improvement.

With the upcoming ski season we can expect a drastic decline that industry too. Especially from foreign visitors, has anyone looked at the exchange rates of currency? The US currency has seem some very drastic declines causing inflation to be rampant and not well reported.

The US is in trouble as are all countries of the world because of government spending and devaluing of all currency, but the US is the hardest hit.

Utah is in denial and a dream state avoiding the fact that we have no money and less to spend with every state is raising taxes and spending more just to maintain welfare. You can't get tourist our because they are in a depression with no funds, and business are falling like swatted flies.

Better shift the emphasis to make the most of national parks and wild lands tourism, because that's what is working. Nobody but Utah has the parks and wilderness of the Colorado Plateau. If they are not protected, this asset will deteriorate.

We could have college courses in 'flipping burgers' and 'cleaning toilets'.

Utah's tourism folk have done a great job in monitoring the pulse of the industry so adjustments can be made as they plan for the future. I wish there could be more focus on improving the quality of the tourism infrastructure. Wild lands alone are not enough. They attract people who drive through to hike and camp, but the impact on local economies is marginal. We need world class, experience-based opportunties that cater to the higher end tourist... and that requires development of the infrastructure to support them. Still, our state tourism folk are the best around and we need to support them any way we can.
