This decision was made primarily because they don't want to run the risk of losing to BYU. Washington is a program trying to get back on their feet and they have a tough conference schedule. No use playing tough non-conference teams. Good move by Washington, even if it is a bit cynical. BYU can take this as a sign of respect.
i thought Sarkisian was more of a man. My bad.
Guess the big boys don't want to play BYU if they can help it. The easiest path to the BCS is still to play a weak non-conference schedule. Just ask BYU. If they hadn't scheduled Florida State, but had played Eastern Washington, they'd be #4 right now with a clear path to the BCS.
Are you serious? Keep gulping the Kool-Aid
Not correct. This has been a trend for a few years now in all of college football. It is so for the reason stated in the article. Your thought about BYU being too good to schedule is accurate only in your mind. There is a reason why they (and Utah) have not been invited to join a real league. They have nothing to offer a major conference.
Utah has utah state off their schedule for the near future. Bronco is showing alot of love for utah state. Is he demanding a 2 for 1.
there may be a small chance your talking to yourself, other than me of course
Where are you now that one of the BIG BOYS doesn't wantto play BYU. It doesn't matter that they are not doing well right now, but when they expect to be better they drop BYU. Oh, the chicken hearted. I imagine the fans in Washington are delighted that they will be able to have two victories n their win column. Cluck, Cluck, Cluck, Cluck, Washington.
Utah is not playing utah state the next couple of years. Bronco is showing utah state alot of love now after the florida state beatdown
byu wants to continue scheduling utah state will bronco drop the 2 for 1 requirement?
Sarkisian is smart enough to know he doesn't want to face Jake Heaps while he's trying to rebuild the Washington program. The Huskies would very likely have been facing four straight losses to BYU (a non-BCS team).
BCS teams are running like scared rabbits from BYU. Alabama, Notre Dame, Arizona State and now Washington have all cancelled games with BYU to schedule easier opponents.
The BCS is doing their utmost to prevent the MWC from joining their little party. First, don't schedule the top teams in the MWC; especially at their place; second, complain that MWC don't play a tough enough schedule to be worthy of playing for a national championship.
WE NEED A PLAYOFF!!!
Look at the wa athletic Is it all about money? directors comments in the fifth paragraph. It appears that the "guarantees" to mid majors isn't worth it so they will play former dII schools.
We may now see BCS schools freezing out non BCS qualifiers during the regular season as well as bowl games. Scary if this turns out to be true.
Weak non-conference games are the key to staying up in the polls. And that's what Washington is seeking.
Why don't you people wait until after this season is over and then talk about how scared everyone is of BYU.
It's really hard to believe that anyone is afraid of big, slow BYU that hasn't done anything in 25 years...don't you think?
Oh, well...talk it up. Spin your misfortunes. Hapless Cougs.
"Just ask BYU. If they hadn't scheduled Florida State, but had played Eastern Washington, they'd be #4 right now with a clear path to the BCS."
Is this system great or what?
No fair!
Looks like we have a jealous little Utah fan spamming the blog tonight.
Take the B.Y. out and just put U and everyone will not be scared, cause they will just think it utah we can beat them. Yeah they all scared of dropping out of the rank and scorned by other peer group. Oh someone mention 25yr. you must not live long enough to remember when BYU kick the heck out the U year in year out. We still love u U you are our little sister we have to love no matter what.
Dropping BYU?
Sounds weak to me.
Reeeeeal weak.
Put someone else on schedule. Washington would be fun, but so would several PAC-10 schools. We haven't played Colorado since a bowl game...let's put them on the schedule.
Eastern Washington? If they wanted an easy "w", they should have scheduled the "u".
