Good deal. The worst team in professional football.
Hmm | 10:01 a.m. Oct. 6, 2009
This Checketts seems to have his hand in everything. Hey, if he can turn them around, good on him.

Hope he doesnt bail on this team here in Utah. We are still waiting for some "big" signings.

Salt Lake Rams? With Checketts involved it could be a possibility...

Worst Team in the NFL? Maybe, maybe not. I'd say the Raiders are definitely in the running... and that is coming from a 40+ year Raider fan :-(

Worst Team in pro footbal? Maybe, maybe not. I'd say the Raiders are definitely in the running for that title - and this is coming from a (frustrated) 40+ year raider fan :-(

Raiders are the worst team ever!

Will Dave have enough capital to get the deal done? His bids for the BoSox and Dodgers came up short. Paying close to 1 billion for one of the worst teams in football doesn't seem like a smart investment. Stick with the MLS and NHL where player payrolls match up with reveue streams created by ticket sales, concessions, ad sales, sponsorship deals, etc.

Rush limbaugh might find out where he lives!!!

Now I will have a new reason to hate the Rams.
Draper Dittoheads | 10:25 a.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Buy the Rams and move them to Draper.

Go ahead both you get it done, when both of you are broke we won't have to put up with either of you again!

Dave Checketts and Rush Limbaugh teaming up to purchase the St. Louis Rams.

Happy Early Halloween!
Great | 10:45 a.m. Oct. 6, 2009
As a Rams fan this is the worst case scenario. We all know how well Checketts runs Real Salt Lake (huge payroll and disappointing seasons) and Limbaugh would just complain about the rest of the NFL instead of fixing any internal problems.

Looks like it is going to be the status quo for losing for the foreseeable future. This is truly going to be epic. Maybe I should be a 49ers or Chargers fan.
John | 11:09 a.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Salt Lake Rams????... Sorry you can't play football in Utah on Sunday

I guess Anonymous is opposed to the free market, private ownership of business and industry, free trade, judges who do not legislate, simpler and lower taxes, less government interference. This is what a conservative is. Rush is fun to listen to and very astute. He also is a fan of football and I suspect has the wherewithal to do this.
The company you keep | 11:28 a.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Great, now I have to stop cheering for RSL. Too bad. But I just can't support a guy who chooses the hate-spewing Limbaugh as a business partner.
Rams Fan | 11:49 a.m. Oct. 6, 2009
I am a huge Rush fan and also a Rams fan. This is great news. Rush is great for the country and will be great for the Rams.
Hollywood | 12:12 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
With Limbaugh in charge, look for St Louis' primary play to be a "Rush" to the far right.
Cool | 12:45 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Rams will be back in the super bowl with leadership that knows how to make a buck and what it takes to be successful.....by next year Obama could be calling Rush to congradulate him on his Super Bowl Victory....Lets Hope Rush refuses the call!
Willie | 12:48 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
I've been a huge Rush fan since I first heard the Moving Pictures album in 1980. I think.

Joe Jo | 1:17 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Moving Pictures was a sweet album. They must have sold alot to be able to buy an NFL franchise.
Himself | 1:27 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Falcon's Beak, I'm thinking another thing a conservative may be is a poor reader who jumps to conclusions. Anoymous didn't anything about economics, taxes, jurisprudence, or 18th century political theory.

Anyway I'd like to see Limbaugh run an NFL organization. It should humble him.
HAHAHA!!! | 1:43 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
I can see the headlines now..." Rush drafts only white players"..... Take that "Obama's America"!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
manaen | 1:52 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
This brings some closure for LDS and Mr. Limbaugh, who has been "somewhat reserved" about the LDS Church since an LDS-Church-owned radio station in Missouri (Kansas City) fired him from his sports-announcing job early in his career.
.
Now he teams with an LDS partner to buy a sports franchise in the same state that will compete with the team from the city where he was fired.
Loser | 1:56 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Let's take a look at Checkett's pro sports history, shall we?

GM of the NY Knicks. Roosevelt High school could beat them routinely under Checkett's watch.

Owner of the NHL's St. Louis Blues. Bottom 5 team for eons, no hope of anything better anytime soon.

RSL. Losers who can't get out of their own way. Keystone Kops in cleats.

So the winless, awful Rams are next? How perfect a fit for Checketts and that gasbag Limbaugh.

"Hey St. Louis! Don't let that con artist talk you into ANY public funding for ANYTHING!

//Anyway I'd like to see Limbaugh run an NFL organization. It should humble him.//

No one would talk about Daniel Snyder, Al Davis, or Jerry Jones anymore.
Gretzky | 2:03 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
anything Checketts touches with your tax dollars is not worth supporting...everytyhing he touches goes nowhere...it's all used to make him rich at our tax dollars expense...that goes for New york and St. Louis as well. the Blues stink in hockey, REAL stinks in soccer...go figure..
Good to see... | 2:08 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
that Checketts is getting involved in real football that boring futbol.
To "Loser" | 2:47 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Then the Rams don't actually Need HIM. They are garbage without the death-touch of Checketts.
If he buys them, they would probably get abducted by aliens. I don't know what his limit is for abysmal sports performance, but he never ceases to get lower.

Life long Rams Fan | 2:58 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
I know my team stinks. They are pathetic to say the least. If Rush Limbaugh gets his mits on this team, I'm changing allegences after 40+ years of Rams fandom.

Until then, I'm praying that the Rams move back to LA, the football Cardinals move back to St. Louis, and that Al Davis croaks in his box suite.
Joe | 3:07 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Checketts is a dangerous con artist. He wants to spend everyone else's money but his own.
And on what? He is a pro sports sewage magnet.
They should run him off.
Get rid of him before he gets a foot in the door.

Hey Dave, How is that RSL team workin' out for ya?

Loser
Fran Farny | 3:12 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
This is a pipe dream that is similar to when Chekkets bought into the SL Blues, he will not move the team here.
To Joe | 3:53 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
"He is a pro sports sewage magnet."

Classic! That describes Dave Checketts reverse Midas touch perfectly!

I can't believe that any sports league would allow him anywhere near their teams. He should be banned from any type of pro sports connection.

Limbaugh is incredibly astute about football, and just might work miracles in St. Louis if his will dominates.
Checketts has that money? | 4:28 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Yet he couldnt build his own Stadium? and can't put up a few hundo for a decent DP?

If this goes thru, it doesn't bode well for RSL.
NAMESAKE | 4:54 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
We could name them:

THE OXY-CONTINS!

What a RUSH!
Don | 6:11 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Come on Everyone:Salt Lake Rams? Not a chance! The City of Industry in the L.A. market is going to build a stadium and bring the NFL back to L.A. Yes the Rams, again! They will stay in St Louis, a big time sports city and closer to the action than being dragged out to Utah! P.S. even though Rush may own the Rams in part one day everyone knows he's a big time Steelers fan! Good for him diversify the American way!
MO welcomes Checketts | 10:35 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
I am assuming that you people that are saying that the Blues have not done well since Checketts bought it are reading newspapers from five years ago. It took about a year to get to where they had an above 500 record. Last year they were able to get in the first round of the playoffs and that was a year with many on the DL. This year they have started off very hot. As for the crowds, I went to some games before Checketts and before the shut out, or whatever it is called, not a lot of fans there. Now the place is packed and the energy is high.

Checketts has also purchased the old Opera house in St. Louis, it looks to be a beautiful place and in 2010 when it opens, I hope to attend some things there. I

I had heard the little bit about Checketts and the Rams a few months back, and as the Rams keep losing, I keep thinking, it is time for Checketts, but to add more to the mix is to have Limbaugh. In two years, I believe that the Rams will be vying for the playoffs.
From  | 6:37 a.m. Oct. 7, 2009
You mean Checketts, Limbaugh, and the taxpayers, don't you?

From the taxpayers wallets to Checketts'. That's how he rolls. His name should be "Just write me a Check-Etts.
kw | 6:43 a.m. Oct. 7, 2009
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this story says he owns the RIO TINTO Stadium. Didn't the city put in a bunch of money so this stadium could be built. I thought the city or county owns the stadium they built out in Sandy.
Anonymous | 6:55 a.m. Oct. 7, 2009
Rush as an owner? Bad for the League.
Mike | 7:47 a.m. Oct. 7, 2009
What's wrong with Rush owning an NFL team? Nothing! Rush doesn't spew hate any more than Ted Kennedy, Michael Moore, Rahm, Pelosi, Reid, Air America, etc.
I like the idea of... | 7:55 a.m. Oct. 7, 2009
Geddy Lee at quarterback, Alex Leifson at receiver, and Neal Peart at linebacker. They will put the Rams back into the "Limelight". Sometimes owners cannot see the forest through "The Trees" but with a strong running game I expect the Rams to win a lot of games by the score of "21-12". Rams fans can travel back to their "Subdivisions" happy and content. Sometimes on short weeks the Rams will have to "Fly by Night" to get to their next away game but we can follow them on tv and on the "Spirit of Radio". Oh whoops...you meant the other Rush. Nevermind.
haha | 8:26 a.m. Oct. 7, 2009
I can see it now the rams will be the first team to go 0-17 with an all white team haha
Anonymous | 8:37 a.m. Oct. 7, 2009
I'd like to know if this is the Dave Checketts who served a mission in Arizona in the early 1970's
Ronny Osmond | 8:49 a.m. Oct. 7, 2009
Rush better be careful, if Cheketts does to the Rams what he did to the knicks, it might cause Rush to get back on oxycontin addiction.
Ha Ha Ha | 9:00 a.m. Oct. 7, 2009
"Checketts and Limbaugh once had offices in the same building in New York City when Checketts was running the New York Knicks."

That sentence ended with being finished. It meant to say "when Checketts was running the New York Knicks INTO THE GROUND FOR YEARS TO COME."

Oh, and soccor is a girl's sport.

TO: Look Elsewhere -- It is a good idea. Buy low and sell high...works EVERY time.

Predictions:

Checketts will USE a possible move of the RAMS to Salt Lake or LA to get the citizens of St. Louis to buckle under and build him a new stadium.

He'll say ridiculous things like he did here, that no other pro franchises will ever consider Utah/St. Louis if they reject a stadium for his soccer/football team. Really Dave?

Is the MLS such a covented sport that ANYONE would even note that Salt Lake refused to pay?
Hopefully St. Louis hasn't elected a bunch of gasbag weak minded politicians like sandy and salt lake county have.
Good Luck to the citizens of St. Louis, if he buys, you can expect to hear alot of WHINE everytime you turn on the radio or TV!!
