Makes NO Difference if he is back for TCU...IF he is not 100% ! Just because we WANT him back doesn't mean he'll make a difference if he is not healthy and can run fast...let's hope....

Byu's Schedule appears weaker each week with the losses by Floriday State and Oklahoma. But, I love MWC football for what it is. It is not Big boy Football, But it is fun football throuhout the conference.

So what do you deduce from a high-ranking QB with so many picks? I've seen some posters think he has lost his confidence... I'd go the other way.

There can be no doubt he is a talented QB, but maybe he needs to throw more high-percentage passes. Play calling, either from the box or the line of scrimmage, should feature more mis-matches and plays taking advantage of open space.

That's the view from my arm chair...

Some good QBs just have a propensity for throwing interceptions. Miami Dolphins had one such QB for many years.

Too bad BYU's stuck with one.

The MWC fell on its nose this year, in spite of BYU's win over Oklahoma ("at their place") and TCU's wins over two ACC teams (at their places). The league needs to wake up over the next few years to beat out either the Big East or ACC (or both) in qualifying for BCS status.

Not looking so good this year.
Look at the stats | 8:31 a.m. Oct. 6, 2009
In the National Championship year, Bosco had 31 interceptions; in his Heisman season Detmer had 28. So calm down folks.
Hall's miscues | 9:39 a.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Max is a gamer; a little conceited, maybe a little over-confident, but he's a winner. For all except a handful of passes this season, Hall has been great. The two interceptions he threw against Utah State were troubling mostly because they were unnecessary. With BYU up by 14 and marching down the field easily with runs and short passes, BYU didn't need the homerun ball.

A couple of 18-play, 8 minutes drives like BYU started the game with would have salted the game away a probably prevented Utah State from scoring that last second touchdown, in fact, BYU probably wouldn't have scored their final touchdown with just under 3 minutes to go either.

Final score would have been 42-10 without the interceptions, but even with them, BYU won the game easily.

I like Hall's agressiveness because it keeps the opposing defense off-balance. Max just needs better awareness of game situations. When you're moving the ball at will and you're up by 14 points, burn some clock and then score; a quick score might be fun, but a long scoring drive would be far more effective.

According to CougarStats-dot-com, Bosco had only 11 interceptions in 1984, not 31. Their site agrees with your 28 INTs for Detmer. What's your source?

Also, you mentioned that Detmer had 28 INTs but didn't mention that he had 41 TDs to go with them. That's just a SLIGHTLY better ratio than Max Hall's. He also had 2 games with zero INTs (SDSU and AFA).

Instead of "calm down" I think we have reason to be concerned.

After I read the comics, if I'm still not in a laughing mood, then I read Dick's predictions and his rankings because that always makes me laugh and that is...ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.....THE TRUTH

its because of BYU's easy schedule that the conference is never taken seriously. Utah does its part by having tough schedules and winning BCS games. the cougs have done neither. winning and mostly losing the vegas bowl does not help our conference. Utah is the one school in the MWC that should move on to a BCS conference and leave byu and wyoming in the mwc.
Do like Boise!!!!!!!!!! | 10:58 a.m. Oct. 6, 2009
LEARN FROM BOISE!!!! Just have the 117 most difficult strength of schedule- and then play Cal State Davis (do they even play football?). The answer as Boise has shown so well is play one good team, two average teams, and the sisters of the poor- OH-I just hurt Utah State's feelings. The football voters will then reward you with a number 6 ranking. It reminds me of Utah State winning 25 games in BB and not getting in the tournament because their strength of schedule was a joke. The BB committee has it correct- you DON'T get rewarded for playing junk!!!!.
concerned - you bet | 11:06 a.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Comparing Max to Bosco or Detmer is sacrilege. This guy loses it in games because he thinks he can do anything. His constant checking off of plays from the press box shows his hubris, especially since what he calls rarely pays off. Not that Anae is any great shakes in the play calling department either. We can get rid of Max through graduation; how do we get rid of Anae and his predictable, boring play calling?
dumb and dumber | 11:50 a.m. Oct. 6, 2009
and dumbest are the college administraors who got greedy and signed on to this stupid mtn debacle.

unconcerned | 1:46 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Max calling all of his won plays pulled off a 16-play, 78-yard drive, converting on a fourth-and-4 and throwing for a 7-yard touchdown to a wide-open McKay Jacobson in the back of the end zone with 3:03 left in the fourth to lead BYU to a win over Oklahoma.

Despite his two picks, he outplayed the defending Heisman trophy winner in the first half, while Bradford was still in the game.

Max has the talent and football smarts to lead BYU to another MWC and a still not impossible BCS berth.

The Florida State game was lost by a soft BYU defense that allowed the Seminoles to run all over them. The fumble on BYU initial drive was the momentum changer. If, instead of fumbling, BYU had finished the drive with a touchdown, the whole outcome of the game could have been different. BYU would have gained confidence. Florida State would have felt they were in a dog fight on foreign territory and the game probably would have turned into a shootout with the winner determined by the last team to score.

BYU's offense could have hung with Florida State.

Please stop saying that the Oklahoma win was the greatest in school history, it is clear at this point that it is not. It is a great win on the road to a team that played in the national championship game. It is not the greatest game ever won by the Y. The 1990 win over the Miami Huricans, the 1984 win over Michigan and the 1996 win over Kansas St in the Cotton Bowl to finish the season undefeated were all better. Miami finised 10-2 that year and had several players that played in the NFL.

I love ewe fans that rip on the Y schedule this year.
Utah win over 1-3 usu, 1-3 san jose state, and 1-3 bottom feeder cardinals. Very impressive, so impressive that your team is not ranked. You can bash the y all you want, about Oklahoma, it was the same classy fans u that were predicting scores of 60 3 and on and on about how bad the y would lose. I will take a 2-2 Oklahoma win on the road over anyting the mighty u has done this year.
Larry | 5:23 p.m. Oct. 6, 2009
Hasn't the U had four byes this year already? They played a good Oregon team and lost, and the other four weeks they didn't play anybody.

Houston beat Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, not Texas A&M.....

I really enjoy Dick Harmon's writing. I'm very glad he is writing for the D-News these days.
