I didn't know that about Larry Miller going into that much debt to keep the Jazz here. I'm pretty sure he definitely overcame that throughout his final years...
Amen to that! | 9:02 a.m. Oct. 6, 2009
I vote for "Miller Arena." Honor the man.

Doug you forgot to mention that he was wise enough to draft a kid out of high school named CJ Miles. The best draft pick ever.

Your sick man. Iv'e read your comments tooooooooo long why don't you just go away? This article is not about players, don't you get that?

This article was about Larry Miller and what he did for the Jazz. Well he had CJ drafted and that is an important part of what made Larry special. He knew talent and had them drafted. CJ should have been mentioned just as Malone and Stockton. CJ will have a statue out front of the ESA.

Looks like the Deseret News censored my comment of about an hour ago. They must have found something offensive in what I said.

I agree that re-naming the Arena to be "Larry H. Miller Arena" sounds like a good idea.

It seems like a little more research could have been done on the article though.

(1) When does the current naming rights agreement expire, or is it perpetually renewing?
(2) Ususally, on a perpetually renewing agreement, either party can terminate based on providing proper notice. Can the Jazz terminate the agreement, and what would it cost them if they did?

That information would contribute to constructive discussion about whether to re-name the arena.

CJ Miles will be lucky to still be on the team in 5 years and have him remebered by the fans. He has been short of playing time and has not been wortht the hype. I am still waiting to see why the Jazz resigned him last year. They should have let him go to Oklahoma. He is not worth the money they are paying him, and now because of a thumb injury that requires surgery, he will sit the bench. I am not sure what you are smoking or if you are CJ's agent but CJ is a nice kid, but not that great at basketball.

I'm in favor, let's name it for Miller.

I was disappointed when the re-naming of the original Derks Field, then Franklin Covey and now Spring Mobile Ballpark was not named for Miller in some way. He was a softball player and such....

I agree with the article now...something is way overdue for honoring LHM in this way! Besides, the name of ESA needs to be gone anyway. Let's give honor where it is most deserved!!!

I'm all for renaming it the Miller Center, Larry H. Miller Arena, whatever. Let's do it! Gotta say though, DR's statements about how everything LM did was purely altruistic is annoying. Guess it's my pet peeve considering how successful people have been at defrauding Utahns over the years.

Of course we all love Larry, but not because of all that "only for the love of the people" stuff. Miller had tremendous business reasons for buying the Jazz and they all panned out beyond his wildest expectations. The only evidence needed of this is his net worth when he bought the Jazz and his net worth when he passed away.

There's nothing wrong with that at all. Everything right with it actually. I'm very grateful for people like Larry who create great jobs and use wealth to make Utah and the rest of the world a better place. But please don't portray him as strictly altruistic. It rubs me the wrong way.
