there was no explanation as to what this was all about. So, the clues are nice to know, but what was the point of it all?
This article was only of interest to those who participated in one of the most exciting events sponsored by the D-News each year. If you didn't try to find the clues, then don't worry about it now.

what was it all about? I'm being serious. I can't be interested in it if I don't know what it's about and the article didn't give any clues at all as to why this is fun or what it's about. I'll check back here to see if anyone can enlighten me. Sleuthing IS fun. Is this anything like geo-cacheing?
