I love our prophet! Since February of last year the mantle has rested squarely on his shoulders and the spirit of prophecy upon him. I'm so thankful to live in a day and age where I can sit in my room and listen to the prophet several states away. Heed the counsel uttered across the pulpit this weekend and you will have happiness. Stray from it or discount it in any way and you will be miserable.
Many of the Mormons I know are people of great character, truly the salt of the earth.
LDS efforts to pass Amendment 8 in California fly directly in the face of the Articles of Faith I learned as a child [we allow all men the same privelege], and is indicative of how the religion has strayed from the cenntral tenets of Joseph Smith.
Therefore I am both amazed and saddened at how this latest "prophet" still insists the LDS church to be divinely led, given the many missteps and fallacies revealed since its founding in 1830.
It requires great work and purpose to ignore the overwhelming evidence of the lack of divinity. People of great courage and conviction, including many of my recent ancestors sacrificed and died for their beliefs and I grieve that their energies were misled, usurped for some pretty unrighteous causes.
May the truth win out, over time...
Contrary to the claim of the 5:18 commentator, Proposition 8 does not prevent anyone from worshipping how they want. If people want in their religious services to provide "same-sex marriages" they can do this.
Proposition 8 is about the social institution of marriage. For those who really want to understand I urge they go read Monte N. Stewart's "social institutions arguement for marriage". Variations on this theme have been published by the Harvard Review of Law and Public Policy and journals published at Duke and Rutgers.
Proposition 8 deals with proactive government endorsement, not the potential use of government police power. On the other hand, if a constitutional imparitive in the California Constitution for genderless marriage had been found, this could well have had serious repercussions on other matters.
I testify that Thomas S. Monson is a prophet called of the Lord. He and his counselors in the First Presidency were guided by the Lord in the matter of Proposition 8.
I agree whole heartedly with the 5:18 commentater. And John Pack Lambert can continue to click his heels and believe in the Wizard of Oz all he wants. I would suggest HE read "The True Believer" by Eric Hoffer.
I love you President Monson and despite what naysayers will always say I know you are a Prophet. Keep up the great work and you are in my family's prayers!
I love you President Monson and I know that you are truly a Prophet called by Our Heavenly Father. You are in my prayers always. I am forever thankful for the Restoration of this Church through the Prophet Joseph Smith. I am a convert of 18 months and the words of this General Conference are a comfort to my soul.
