It is not the US fault regarding the deaths.Blame should be brought on the Mexican government that fosters inhuman conditions to exist.Dont forget Mexico, on the whole, has only two classes of citizens, the very rich or the very poor. There is an old saying which states if you equalize all the wealth of the average human being in the world and spread it among all the poor that would just make everyone poor! Think about that fact!!!!

Illegal foreign nationals

Gotta love the news media and the ACLU, they keep calling these criminals immigrants by mistake. At least those that die aren't stealing from america and the citizens of this country, except in funeral costs and rescue costs.

We should have our military forces along the border to have better border security and keep these illegal foreign nationals out of this country.

It is deplorable to call these Mexican illegals immigrants when they had no immigration records or identification unless that too is forged. It's too bad more of them aren't dieing from bullet wounds for invasion and terrorism to america.

Our economy would not be in the mess it is if all illegals trying to cross our borders were caught, killed, or returned before they get in to the pockets of government agency's. Americans would have jobs, paying taxes, and have some expendable incomes.

And never refer to them as immigrants, they are criminals breaching our national borders intent on destroying our economy. By all definitions that is terrorism.

Daddy Dave

The fundamental reason for illegal immigration into the U.S. is economic. If the system of corruption, bribery, police and military terrorism against their own people were eliminated in Mexico the problem of massive illegal immigration from Mexico would also disappear. But for Mexico, it’s much easier to shift the ‘blame’ and ‘solution’ to their internal problems to the United States by essentially demanding an ‘open border’, and they have a very willing ’ally’ in the ACLU. Because Mexico does absolutely nothing to prevent illegal immigrants from Central American and Caribbean countries from transiting Mexico on their way to the U.S. many of the dead and unidentified bodies recovered in the desert are not Mexicans at all, but they are surely dead because of the Mexican government and the system of corruption that brought them there in the first place.

Good, let them die. Maybe if enough of them die, they will start to think it isn't worth it to sneak over the border. It isn't our country's job to make sure that they are safe sneaking in.

The toll in human life awful. I can't imagine how awful it is to die from the heat, when I complain when it gets in the 80s.

What struck me as ironic about the article is the talk of "immigrant rights". I don't understand this. Since when do people who are entering the country illegally have legal recourse such as "rights"? Could we please watch the verbiage in articles because that is completely inaccurate. The rights these desperate people have are in Mexico, where they are from. The government in Mexico is responsible for these deaths because of corruption and letting the drug lords run the country.

I believe in sharing what we have. When we have so much more than other people, I can understand them wanting to come here. Also, they help run this country. There has got to be a better way to do things than they are now being done.

But, please, no more talk of "rights" for illegal entrants.

Chris

The answer is simple. Make Mexico tell their people to stop crossing the border instead of promoting it. And make sure they know of the consequences. Illegal, no jobs period.Make the companites liable.
If there are no people crossing then the smugglers and bandits will have no one to prey on.

Libertarian

◦Illegal immigrants can not collect welfare, food stamps, medicare, medicaid, or federal housing assistance. The 1996 Welfare Reform Bill barred most immigrants from receiving benefits. They also can not collect Social Security. While they do take advantage of emergency rooms and K-12 education, illegal immigrants do pay a substantial amount of taxes. Immigrants do not come here for the free benefits. They come here for the opportunity to work, save, and contribute to our gross domestic product.
◦Studies have shown that immigrants quickly adopt to our country. Most second generation immigrants are fluent in English. The cultural differences they bring to our country add to our culture and heritage.
◦Immigrants do not cause a rise in crime. El Paso and Laredo Texas are both towns with high immigrant populations, yet low rates of crime. The Star Ledger has found that NJ citizens are twice as likely to end up in jail as legal and illegal immigrants based on prison population and census studies.
◦Immigrants do not steal jobs from Americans. Those who think otherwise do not understand economics and wealth creation. Immigration makes us more prosperous, not less.

What's going to happen?

They will die trying to get here as long as we let them in without much fuss. Besides the Marxist liberal socialists now in power want them here so they can enact a sweeping "reform" to bring them onto the public dole and so they will have more power as the "immigrants" become voters.

The "rich" here need to share the wealth. Isn't that obvious!!

These people are not immigrants they are illegal aliens stealing across the borders and it is time to stop making excuses for them. Many are criminals in the truest sense others are just thinking they will have a better life here at the expense of the American taxpayer. Our education system is burdened by these people along with our medical system. America cannot take care of its own therefore we can no longer take care of those south of the border, it is time their governments took care of their people as they already get American dollars for bullets

Border Babe

Daddy Dave is right--Libertarian is not! Don't tell me illegals don't collect government benefits--AZ spends over a billion dollars educating illegal immigrants' children. Our state health programs (welfare) application says right out that they won't be asked about their immigration status! Most of the workers in the DES offices in AZ are hispanic because it's crucial to their clients that they speak Spanish--and if you think adults born and educated in this country haven't learned English, you are naive indeed. Our hospitals are going broke serving illegals who don't pay their bills. We see the under-the-table work, the jobs lost to our construction workers down here on the border, being replaced by illegals.

And the main reason they come is the corrupt economic system in Mexico--not any lack of natural resources in Mexico. And the reason they die is the inhumane treatment of the human smugglers--we call them coyotes down here--and the lies they tell the people. For example, they point to our border mountains as they desert their cargo, telling them that Phoenix is just across those mountains--when it's 200 desert miles away.

Humanitarian

Many of these comments are inappropriate for a true debate and reflect a simplistic view of the issues, as well as emotional, hasty reactions based on fear. As citizens of this global community we should not sit back and allow people to die if something can be done to prevent it. Whether or not you believe immigrants should come to the U.S., it is clear the U.S.'s immigration policies as they are today are broken. Greater oversight and penalties for employers knowingly hiring undocumented immigrants, adding a sensible, user-friendly guest worker program to allow employers to legally employ immigrants, and cracking down on the real criminals (the coyotes and drug smugglers, not the dishwashers, hotel maids, factory workers, etc.) will provide a more stable, lasting solution. Fixing the U.S.’s infrastructure and working with our neighbors to fix theirs, while also being compassionate toward the people that contribute to our country in so many ways is the reasonable, fair way to begin to fix what's been broken for so long. Wishing death on another human being simply for seeking a better life (not a crime!) is disturbing; see the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

I've lived in approximately 20 cities in my lifetime, including along both our northern and southern borders. I agree that income and wealth disparity in Mexico is extreme, and that the corruption and poverty in Mexico are both at horrendous levels. However, remember that the US government's foreign policy played a large part in maintaining that situation. It supported corrupt governments, provided weapons and counter-insurgency training to combat people's movements (where Mexicans tried to do what you people are asking them to do -- clean up their own government), and profited mightily off the backs of undocumented workers as long as they were young and strong and healthy enough to do so, only to throw them back like used kleenex when old or infirm. If you really want desperate immigrants to stop coming here seeking a better life, tell your senators and congressmen to change US foreign policy in the region so that we oppose corruption, stop exploiting the resources of other nations, and support efforts of poor countries to lift their people out of poverty. Ready to do that? If not, then STOP COMPLAINING!!!
