Take the salaries and retirement of everyone who has any oversight responsibility and apply it to the shortfall. This did not happen overnight. These people did not do their jobs so they should be held accountable and pay for it.

Hold the Auditing Company responsible. If this was overlooked for a few years, they need to be held responsible. Letting the Students and teachers suffer for this is WRONG. To come begging to the taxpayer is an outrage.

I believe the superintendent's salary should be affixed with part of this shortfall, afterall she is ultimately responsible for the district's budget. Also, I agree the audit company is at fault and if the recently deceased business administrator has any type of 401K or retirement plan, it should now belong to the district - he did not do his job.

I have said it before...if business were run like school districts they would all be broke.
