Couple of corrections:
1) Gandhi never drank his own urine. That was Morarji Desai's who was a follower of Gandhi and prime minister of India for a short while.

2) The statement "It cost a lot to keep Gandhi in poverty" is highly misleading. I know it has been repeated any number of times ever since Sarojini Naidu first quoted it when she learnt that the annual ashram cost was Rs 17,000 (I may be off by some number). But if the expenses of hundreds of volunteers enrolled in the movement or ashram activities had to be paid that would have cost money anyways. And given Gandhi's austere way this amount was on the lower side.
