the dogs in? Happens all the time in this state!
Now go after all the assets of his children, that they must have received from their parents.
How can a guy steal 4 million dollars and not go to prison?
Nice outfit, Mrs. Ross. Myt family likes how you spent our money.
Unfortunately this kind of thing happens in every state, both at the local and federal level. Were looking for a way to get our economy in shape, get this kind of thing stopped.
What has happened to this country and it's people the last 30 years? Is it a race to see who can accumulate the most toys and finances to take with them into eternity? I just don't get it, what drives these mongrels to a crimminal lifestyle? What is money anyway? When is enough-enough? Throw them both regardless of health in jail and forget where you put the key! I have had ENOUGH of this mentality by alot of educated and business people.
What a load of bull. The charges indicate that the amount of fraudulent gain is upward of $4million. But the so-called "prosecutor" in this case negotiates a deal with a forfeiture of money & property totaling a bit over $1 million, and a sentence on the low end of the guidelines.
This same prosecutor than had the gall to say they're not getting off easy? Oh I don't know. 2 years in a federal country club, and a $3 million dollar profit. Sounds like a sweet deal to me.
Makes me wonder how much money went to the prosecutor, under the table.
What happened to Susan Ross's secretary, Smith? She pleaded guilty but is said to have never served a day in jail? Does anyone know why?
So $4M is stolen, but only $1M is returned. They get to keep $3M??
And prison could be up to 10 years, but prosecutors recommend only 27-33 months.
It makes this type of crime sound profitable even when caught...
This is bad and I think they should have to pay society back.. how is it any different than what some members of congress do?
If I robbed a bank and got away with 4 million dollars it would be a federal offence, is this not as well? No justice has been served here only a slap on the hands, sham on Utah law.
the bank is rolling in the area...now some others are probably figuring out their scheme as the punishement just doesn't seem to scream!!
some cases about like this down here in AZ, and as always the "white collar" criminals seem to get off so easy. Why isn't white collar crime considered just as serious--especially when you figure out how much these people's theft cost the taxpayers of that school district?
And since teachers are held much more accountable for their crimes than the general populace, since they are supposed to be significant role models, why aren't other school district employees, especially ones of this stature, also held to that standard?
How many children did not get the help they needed because of these theives? Where is the other $3,000,000. I agree with all these other posts.
Well, it will cost a lot of money to just hold the hearings and to jail these. A more just punishment would be for them to be ordered to work for the children in Davis District and pay back some of what was taken by teaching reading and Financial Literacy courses. It's a crime of greed, but I just don't see what paying even more tax dollars to house them will help. The party is over for these two already. Put them to work for 20 years at sudstandard wages living barely hand to mouth and they will learn a greater lesson.
I agree with you heartily. Course they still have $3M to pay for their legal costs, don't they? And because he has "medical problems" he virtually gets a free pass? I have a sister 71 years old who has fought cancer for over a year; just recovered from pneumonia, and has to go back to work now. No stash; no "pass" for the honest folk. Is her recommended light penalty based on age? or standing in her church? or why? I'd have her teach the kids in a jail uniform! I'm so tired of these white collar crime CRIMINALS getting off just losing houses they bought with crooked money. So long, Grandma!
Every time my tax dollars go into education I know they are getting stollen. I bet these people are much more honest than most of our politicians. Our communist education system has got to go!
Yes time to do away with our phony public school system!
Comment on the ross dress,is she trying to gain sympathy by dressing like a poor person with a recycled flower sack dress? The penalties for the crime are not severe enough and as far as her husband getting a pass for being sick that should not enter into the sentence.Tough!
It IS a federal crime. That's why it's in FEDERAL court. And white collar criminal sentences are getting harsher, not more lenient. Look it up. (sentencing.typepad.com, to start.)
These sentences are based on what the prosecutor had evidence to prove, and nothing else.
If you want to read an interesting book, I recommend Harvey Silverglate's "Three Felonies a Day." The title refers to the average number of felonies each American commits every day of his life. So as you berate people like Ross, remember--you're a felon, too!
