Bad review. It was hilarious, thought provoking not so much.

Momster06

This movie was not funny. I had my 21 year old son with me and was embarrassed half the time. From the very beginning it was obvious this movie was obsessed with talking about sex. It also mocked religion in an uncomfortable way. I pretty much hated the movie.

Momster06 hit it right on. When I arrived at the theater and found only a few others attending, I wondered why. Having seen the movie I don't wonder any more. If you haven't seen it already, do yourself a favor and miss this one.

The beginning scene where Mark arrives early to pick up Anna for their first date was frankly disgusting. I admit it got marginally better after that, but it could hardly have gotten worse. I wonder at the reviewer, Roger Moore, concluding that this movie was thought-provoking. When I see what I consider a thought-provoking movie, I sit in the theater after the end of the film slowly disengaging from the experience and going over in my mind what I had seen. After this movie I couldn't get out of the theater fast enough. "The Invention of Lying" is a truly bad movie in the sense of being morally reprehensible. Some may say that conclusion says more about me than it does about the movie. I suppose that would be a fair assessment. I find very little value in lying for personal gain nor in mocking religion.

I think the review is spot on. The absence of lying does translate to a lot of superficial tactlessness in this movie, but the use of over-exaggeration drives home the point.

I found the movie to be very funny and thought-provoking. BUT, I also thought that very religious people might understandably find it offensive.

I really didn't like this movie and I am definitely not a prude. It wasn't the sexual humor that bothered me it was the mocking of religion. I just didn't enjoy it.

I went to this movie during a long layover. I left never knowing how it ended, playing Tetris at the airport instead. When the [depressed] main character answers the door unshaven, unkempt and looking like Jesus, well....

Bang-on funny

Jeezy-peezy you guys! What movie did _you_ see?

The show I went to was a howl!

If you're offended by this movie's message about the ultimate lie of religion then you brain is unreachable by both reason and comedy.

Please, live your own life. I'm going to live mine - and that includes having a good laugh at the laughably silly things in the world.

Reed

This film has its moments including good soundtrack and a feel-good ending scene. The real lie is that there is no 'Man in the sky'. Try this on for "logic and reason" If there is a God, He could make Himself known to mankind. If there is no God, it is impossible to know it". This film maker has a big sign on his forehead that reads 'IGNORANT'. I regret giving this film my money.

Don't trust this movie critic. Save yourself the trouble--this movie was HORRIBLE. 3.5 stars out of 4, pulease. The theater was empty. The movie was just lame! We had out 15 year old daughter with us and I was embarrassed by the sexual content. Worst movie we've seen in years.

This movie is shamelessly offensive. This is a good example of why believers dislike atheists. It's not just because they disagree it's because they disagree smugly and rudely. If I take anyone's core beliefs -whatever they may be- and mock them for over an hour in a shameless way I'm a jerk, plain and simple. Even a mildly religious person will be offended by this. Is there going to be a sequel next that focuses on personally insulting my wife and children?
