I was a So. Ca. surfer in the late sixties,but I traded my surfboard for a rifle and went to Vietnam.
There were many who went to Canada and Austraila then, I did't read anything pro or con about his military status. In this time frame there was a military draft.

I wish all religious freaks would be more shy about their religion. It is private. Keep it to yourself.

I was a young Mormon Surfer in the sixties. Bob was my hero, I was riding contests up and down the East Coast, Trying to figure out how to make a living surfing. When Bob stopped surfing contest because of his faith it encouraged me to do the same. I enrolled in Ricks College, met my future wife and lived happy ever after. By the way I taught all nine of my grandkids how to surf this year. That's three generations of surfers. My friends all went to Hawii the summer of 1968. All but one came home and we have remained great friendships ever since.
