Offense is Lame! | 12:37 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Wing T is bogus. Move on coach and use a more diverse offense. Riverton has the highest enrollment in the state and should be producing high caliber teams. This old fashioned offense is killing them! They need a new look or will forever be chasing Alta and Bingham.

Congrats to the JV guys who stepped up big tonight. Im reffering to Boston Handley and coach Wolford feeling in for Halbert. Hope everything is better Ron. we love you.
Come on Wolves | 7:02 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
I would have to agree with "Offense is Lame". With Riverton's enrollment being so high there is no excuse for these mediocre seasons. There has got to be tons of talent walking the halls in that school.

Where did that game come from? Best game you have played in three years, hands down. I think I am speaking for all Alta fans, we were elated and stunned with your play last night. We are all happy you finally had a good game and you saved your best for an enormous varsity win. We didn’t know you had it in you. You showed us last night. Congratulations!!! My vote is you make player of the week after that incredible performance. Fantastic job last night.

GREAT job Boston Handley.
341 yd's and 4 td's? Thats incredible. You deserve it.
All you needed was the opportunity and a good team around you.
Keep it rolling and good luck next week.

"Mr lame" is very right there is no reason (Besides the Wing-T) that the group we had last year shouldnt have been better it was the old school offense!! This is comming from someone who knows a little about RIVERTON football. Mr wow
I knew Boston could do it! | 8:37 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Good job Boston, you really stepped up, now you know what Hamilton wants. You do the job, and you're the man. Keep progressing, your stats were great no let down push yourself and great things will happen. It has been 6 or 7 years since a junior QB started for Alta.
re offense is lame | 8:38 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
chasing alta and bingham??? your chasing everyone...alta bingham jordan cottonwood brighton pleasent grove american fork lone peak davis northridge...riverton has alot more to worry about than just alta and bingham...

Way to go Boston. It was awesome to watch you play last night. You looked like a veteran in the pocket. Good luck the rest of the season.

I have read a lot of negative comments this season and have not posted on any of it but last night was embarrassing. I wish there was some positive way to spin it but there’s not. We were out coached, out played and soundly beaten. If it was just one game or one season I could understand but it is the same every year. All that bull posted about seniors, juniors, really does not matter, if you are not willing to put the kids in a position to win (scratch that) to at least compete then there is an issue. There is a lot of talent at Riverton and it’s not being used period. We did nothing last night to compete. No adjustments,no real substitutions, nothing! We just lined up and took it. I understand you can't just draw plays up in the dirt. You could have tried to at least sub some different linemen, use the back up QB as he is a better runner, gone gun the fourth qtr. something anything. We were already getting blown out who would care. I would rather go down swinging than just roll over.
Wing T | 9:17 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
I Qb'd a wing T offense my senior year. Easiest way to stop it...sit your linebackers and d line on the guards. we got stopped every time unless it was a pass play. Wing T = stupid offense= old school coaches = losing seasons, or a lucky season.
Riverton is Terrible! | 9:30 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Alta do not think that you are all big and bad now after beating Riverton. They are not very good. You will have your hands full with A.F. and L.P.
Gratitude | 9:32 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
I love Coach Halpert......the guy is a winner and the reason the Alta Defense is so tough year in and year out. The time he spends watching film and preparing his defense is incredible. My son loved playing for Coach Halpert, because when the ball snapped, my son knew exactly what to do and how to stop the opposing offense .....When my son looks at his Ring and his All-State trophies, he thinks of Halpert....Don't stay away long Coach, your Alta legacy is not complete! All the Best because You are the Best, Coach Halpert!!
big dudes | 9:39 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
alta's line compared to riverton's lineman was a like college vs jr. college...i assist with tickets and stuff at games and trust me-there are not kids this size roaming the halls at riverton....hang in there wolves and finish strong...our staff is made of quality individuals who should not be 'run off'... alta your guys played some great football and should be final four or better
Football Fanz | 10:13 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009

Is Boston Handley the son of former Alta QB Todd Handley that played QB for the Hawks in the early 80s?
Speed | 10:16 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Now you see what Boston can do when he has receivers that can run and catch. He has been given no chance with the first team. Now you know who the best thrower is at Alta! Full confidence Boston, you have earned this! A lot of frustration....doesn't it feel GOOD!!!
Re:Riverton is Terrible!  | 10:21 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
You will have your hands full with A.F. and L.P.???

WHATT???

Didn't Alta already kill LP last week?

Here we come PG!
ALTA | 10:23 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
First of all to Hawk Eye...please quit saying "The Flock is Coming Boyz!". That isnt very menacing. Sounds kind of dumb.

Handley shoud replace Brown. He did better than Jordy and it was only his first start-think what he could do with more time under his belt for this year and next year.

Go Hawks!
To Wing T  | 10:34 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
That's exactly what Alta did last night they keyed the guards and then attacked the gaps. In the thrid qtr. it was so bad they were in the back feild on a couple of plays before are our linemen could put their second step down. We did not adjust at all. Look at the film a simple down call would have caught alot of Alta players in the wash but I guess Riverton's staff did not see that. Also if they had run power instead of sweep (30 series I think) they could have picked up the Alta players coming through the A and B gaps play side. If you are going to run this offense you need more to draw from than the base offense to defeat teams that key your guards (etc.) The Wing T can still be used effectively, you do not need to run spread to be
effective. But really they were just soundly beaten. It's just more of the same and that's
the issue. The kids looked really beaten down by the end of the game and that would worry me more as the season is not over.
To Big Dudes  | 11:00 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
That excuse is getting old. I thought they we matched up pretty well size wise. I don't want to be rude but they were better prepared they beat our guys off the ball and size has nothing to do with that. It starts with the line yes but there is plenty of blame to go around. As a whole the team did not play well. This linemen thing in just a cop out teach them to get off the ball, use angles and double teams to offset the size. There are plenty of teams that win and thier linemen are not that big. Coach them up! What a cop out. There linemen are just to big for us to compete. Give me a break

Nice Game Hawks! Defense was awesome. Coach Halbert you are the best, these boys love you. Take care and we will see you next week! Good Job Boston, the OL really stepped up for you, gave you time to make a good pass. OL you are great to bad they don't mention you in the articles, you do the same for Jordy. Go Hawks!

Re: Alta | 12:27 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Give me a break, I hope this isn't a family thing. Because having one good game vs several very bad games doesn't say a lot. He is very slow, reads are up and down, good arm though. I am holding my opinion on Handley until the PG game. Then we will see how he is doing. In the past he has been up and down needs to be much more consistant. Then he will have my vote.
Looks like no region banners | 1:02 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
for your beautiful gym this year in football. Biggest enrollment in the state with less than average football team. Something doesn't add up so I wonder what it could be. And to think about the school splitting next year is a bad thought. And if the coaches think that every good athlete will be staying at home, think again. Who would want to play in that type of offense? The good ones will continue to go to the school north and some of the returners will go to Herriman. Sorry but that is the truth.
Jordy?? | 1:42 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
How long is he out? Was it a degree 1,2 or 3 Seperation? It has to be bad to keep him out of playing his Senior Year....or are we turning it over to Boston?
wow | 1:42 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Hey thats it lets all go to Herriman that solve all the problems. All the great athletes will be there even coach Halpurt (ya yesterday) and when you get drubbed you can talk about how lamb the school football team is. YES, YES the grass is so much greener on the other side. Lets all go!

Alta Fan | 2:14 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Boston had a great game, but lets not crown him King yet. Can he run??? In order to command that offense the QB has to be able to run. Boston also had some fantastic punts last night.
Comments | 2:46 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
First, Handley didn’t start last night. Just to clarify the 7 or 8 years since a JV QB has started. As stated in the article, Handley was 3rd off the bench.
Alta QB | 2:48 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Brown is a much better passer and all around QB. One guy can’t make all difference, but Alta will be hard pressed to repeat if Brown is out. Yes it takes a team to win. As my friend said to me, our O-Line made it so even I could have thrown last night. Yes, Handley completed passes, but only one or two hit the receiver directly in the hands without them diving or jumping for the ball. It's one thing to throw the ball far and it's another to throw a catch able ball. We have never seen repeatable catch able balls from Handley. One hits the receiver and the next one goes who knows where. If he is the QB, we need consistency every game, not just for one game. O-Line needs credit, backs need credit, and downfield blocking by the receivers to make all those TD’s need credit. Defense was incredible last night once again. Coaches, great play calling on both sides of the ball. Great Win
plyxply | 3:00 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
holy cow, has anyone seen the Alta JV games? Let's get real before we start saying Handley is ready to lead the Hawks. Nice kid, good arm, and it helps to have great receivers, but frankly he had at least 5 seconds to throw the ball every time, I don't think he even got touched when he dropped back. Alta won't be playing Riverton every week and if you've seen Boston throw with any pressure it's a bit of a different scenario. Glad he played well and stepped up for his team, and hopefully this will propel him, but for Alta to have a chance to three-peat Jordan Brown will have to be the qb.

Future??? | 3:36 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Riverton has been talking about next yaer for the last 4 years now how many more do they need? At the of this year will be 6 years of the wing-t.
2-8
7-4
6-5
6-5
7-4
most likely 5-5 this year never beating BHS or winnig a playoff game, but wait til next year!
It's either the the kids are not good enough or the good kids are going other places cause they don't like O. Either way the coaches have to figure out the best way to help them compete at a higher level. I have heard of all the wonderful things that coach miller does and he sounds like great man who is teacing the kids a lot about life and being acountable for their actions, but football wise something needs to change to get to the next level.
TO WOW!  | 4:02 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Really grow up. Lets face the facts. Riverton has not progessed at all under it's current staff. That is a fact look at the record it does not lie you can call me a hater and all that other bull but it is a fact. The record speaks for it self. We always hear that the next class will be better, that we lack the talent needed to run the system, the line is to small and on it goes. All season I have listend as everyone argues over seniors vs. juniors, or my johnny should play (etc.) But really what is the issue is it the kids, is the parents, or just maybe do the coaches have any thing to do with it. There are a lot of talented kids in the program we should be able to do better than 5-4,
6-5. I have one more question for you when has Riverton ever beat a real contender or a top tier team. Do you know? Excatly they haven't. Draw your own conclusion as to why. Oh I forgot you already have.
Anonymous | 4:16 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
I really hope that these negative comments about Handley are from other kids and not parents. This is disgusting.
If its from classmates; step up and play the game yourself before you judge.
If they're from parents; The kid is 16-17 years old! There should be nothing on here but congratulations to him and his team. You want to critique? Go get a 35k a year teaching job and ask to help coach a team.
The kid had a GREAT GAME.
No I'm not a relative. Just a reader who is fed up with arm chair quarterbacks who have never played the game.
Yes, he had plenty of time to throw last night.
Yes, he had better receivers to throw to.
YES, he completed most of his passes! He obviously did something very well last night.

sorry. I guess it's ok for you to bad mouth the coaches but it's not ok to say what we think of your kid's skills. he had a great game against riverton. one game doesn't mean he is now all state all world.

Great game, keep it up.
wow | 5:03 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
WOW, I really have to draw my conclusion you have all the answers and really should become the head football coach at riverton high school and lets see how you compare to the top tier teams in the state. Lisson, kids are tranfering to jordan, atla, bingham ECT. because are little league coach are telling them to read the paper IE: JORDAN are you a little coach? looks like no region banner huh.

As many times as I want to! I am so proud of him and his effort. You KNOW he should be the starter anyways!!!!
Talk is cheep | 6:25 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Riverton football is all about winning the games they should and getting smoked by the teams that are good, all the additions to coaching hasn't changed that. Hopefully Herriman's principal realizes his mistake in bringing in an old friend to lead Riverton and he won't make the same mistake when staffing his new school. Great job Alta QB but before the parents start counting scholarships remember who you played last night, not a true test, my hope is that he does as well against better competition. To the Halpert fanatics, don't forget that he has already had his chance at head coach, ask Copperhills how it went. He should stay and ride the success of Alta athletes as long as possible.
Wing-T Doesn't Work | 6:27 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Truth is we are losing all the good young QBs in the Riverton Little Leagie program to Jordan, Alta, etc. because they don't want to go to Riverton H.S. and play in an antiquated offense where all they do is run. Something's gotta change....with all that talent and number of players, it just doesn't add up.
WOW | 6:38 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Who's my big brother. Thats all you got "Please" coming soon you son going to Herriman who couldn't start at Bingham, Alta let alone Riverton :(
