USU, BYU football: Good offense may be Aggies' best defense
30 comments | Read story
This is Max's team and Max's year. I wish all the best for Nelson, but if you want him to be the starter you're hoping for an injury to Hall.
Max Hall is an excellent BYU quarterback and we are lucky to have him. Is he perfect? No, but he's doing a great job and I get tired of Yewts pretending they know something about a player they only watch once a year.
I think the D-News should do a pole on who is the best player on BYU's offense, Unga or Hall.
I vote for Unga.
Don't hype up games or seasons. It always shoots you in the rear. Same goes for BYU as well.
Yes
If you throw in the towel every year after you lose a game, just to prepare for the possibility of going undefeated in some future season, you will throw away a lot of would-be great seasons (and a lot of conference championships).
Yes, I'll take fighting for the conference championship every year without even giving up the possibility of a BCS run or two every 50 years. Duh!!!!
GETTING THE IDEA!!
And no one mentions USU's defense? They're the worst defense in the country and they are going up against BYU! Will BYU's offense even need to convert a third down all night?
The big mouth faggie fans will shut up when Coleby Clawson and Jordan Pendleton take Borel and Turbin out of the game and they lose the rest of the season.
Who cares about just winning a BCS game, when your program has already exceeded that goal with a National title. So BYU tradition is already consistently great football years with a NATIONAL title in the mix over the last 50 years.
If you aren't satisfied with 50 years of the best football outside of the BCS, and a National title in the mix, then you won't be content with anything (except a more equitable BCS). So BYU won't go undefeated this year. Boohoo! Doesn't mean I won't enjoy the possibilities still left for the Cougars this season. I hope you are right that what I will get is a Cougar team with 10 wins, a conference championship, and a Vegas bowl game this year. That will be an amazing accomplishment.
Go ahead and take it for granted when BYU beats TCU, Utah, and all others for another MWC championship. I won't!
I love how every year is another possible run at a BCS Bowl berth, and BYU will eventually get there when a few of the breaks go their way (e.g. two years ago when BYU was just a few plays from being undefeated; last year when Utah was just three plays away from losing three games).
Give me teams that are capable of 10 wins every season! Eventually we'll break through!
I hope BYU is ready to get in there and rip the arms off TCU. That is the game circled on the calendar. They are the team to beat in the conference, and I guarentee, that will be THE game of the season. Go cougars!
As a FAN I don't mind underestimating an opponent. What a fan thinks has no bearing on the outcome, anyway. And USU hasn't put a scare in me for years. Until USU has a real chance in the fourth quarter, I'm not going to get worried about any game against the Aggies.
But it is exciting just to be at the stadium watching my Cougars. And it will be extra fun with an in-state team, because I'm sure many Aggie fans will be there. Cheer loud, and proud, and come on time Aggie fans, because this one will be over early.
No disrespect, because I do think USU will be a team to worry about in the future, but this year they are still one of the last teams worthy of fear on BYU's schedule.
These idiotic comments about "true BYU fans can only be satisfied with a BCS championship" make me want to puke.
You are absolutely right! I as a BYU fan am so ashamed of my team that I will mimic all of those other fair-weather fan and switch over to the Utes ... oops, they're not having a great year this year, either.
Oh, wait, no, I'll be loyal to the MWC and switch my allegiance to TCU. That's it! I am now a TCU fan.
Oh wait! I live in Indiana. Maybe I'll become a IU fan. Nah, they're not doing so well. Maybe I'll be a Notre Dame fan. But then again, I don't like Charlie Weis.
I am SO confused! I don't know who to cheer for. But I've got to say that I am so very grateful to you for pointing out that I should not be a BYU fan.

It was probablly a hope by Andersen that Cougar players and coaches or anyone who could influence them, would read/hear his comments.
The truth is: Andersen will be doing exactly what he did in late November 2008. He did not rush Max. He did not put pressure on Max. What he did do is fill the passing lanes with, apparently, orders to defend these particular lanes and wait for the pass. That is why by the end of the 3rd quarter and BYU within 4 points of the U, BYU had over 200 yards rushing (most given up by the U). Had the Cougs kept rushing and forced the U defense to do something other than wait for the pass, the outcome may have been different and certainly the final score would have been closer.
If Anae and Max can keep their heads about them and run with the ball as many times as they pass it, without the predictability of when, it will be a long night for the Aggies.
If not, the score will be close.
