I hope that's sarcasm - climate change is real.
The incidence of extreme weather changes around the world is increasing. I live in a part of that world that has been in drought for 10 years.
Some snow (or preferably rain) would be real welcome in my part of the world.

Why did I ever leave Utah? I want to come back to the snow, I will wax my skis tonight and start looking for airline tickets.....

You are absolutely right, climate change is real and it has been changing every day, every month and every year for the past millions of years.

It's not sarcasm. It's the truth. Of course climate change is real, but it's not man made! Explain to me how a bunch of rich snobs driving SUVs caused it to snow in September?
@@@Verlo | 8:35 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Of course a bunch of rich snobs driving SUVs didn't cause it to snow in September. That's not what climate change means. It doesn't have anything to do with any one weather pattern or even the weather one city might receive for years straight. It has to do with what the world at large is experiencing, which is about as undeniable as science ever gets.

Why do we even have scientists if no one is going to listen to them? People take their cars to a car mechanic because they trust that someone who fixes cars every day for a living knows more than they do. Yet when it comes to climate change, everyone knows more than those who have been studying this for decades.

Well, we know why that is: it's because a bunch of talk shows told you what to believe.

Enough with the arguing about climate change. Let's just all agree that we need to clean up our environment. New technology would promote job growth and clean air, water, etc. are just good for all of us. My mother, who has asthma, gets sick every time she visits Utah because of your lousy air.

You can't argue climate change to a culture that as little education in science. These people believe by a drop out makes them an equal of a PhD.

Look at the screamers, birthers and the people these folks relate to. You can't argue with functional illiterates.
Scientists are not mechanics | 10:18 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
When mechanics see that your brake pads are worn out, they replace them. When your starter won't crank, they replace it. Sometimes they have theories about what is causing the problem, but ultimately they are dealing with hard facts. Scientists talking about climate change are not dealing with hard facts - they are dealing with theories which are intended to explain certain phenomenon. Unfortunately they can't just "replace the starter" to see if the engine cranks, but so many treat them like mechanics who know all, figuring that because they have a Ph.D. then they must know everything that ever has happened and ever will happen. I am a well educated person who does not put much stock in what they say. A theory is not a fact - it is a theory. They are no more than religionists who say that their church is true, but because I disagree with the mighty "scientists" then I am put down as having a lack of intelligence. Quite the opposite. That being said, we all should take care of our environment, because it's the right thing to do, not because some Ph.D. said we should.
@ Midwest - our air | 10:28 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
most of the pollutants in our Utah air can be attributed to the west winds blowing in sand and dust off the great basins into the Wasatch fronts. Sure we have inversions and other pollutants but those are rare, and during non-windy winter months traditionally.

Also, many scientists have determined that "climate-change" (the new leftist buzz-word since global-warming is now not true due to a ten year cooling trend) is not true. That CO2 does not affect our temperatures.

The earth has warmed much more in its history before man could have possibly played a part. How do you account for those trends? The sun solar spot activity has more to do with our warming/cooling trends than anything else in our earth.

Leftists just need something to be angry at the established society to pass blame and to condemn current familial lifestyles. Hence CO2 emissions from large families are bad. Whats your carbon footprint? Etc.

Great people don't pass blame they find solutions.

39 years ago scientists predicted another ice age was coming and everyone climbed on the bandwagon. That didn't pan out, but now we've got global warming, and it's not politically nor scientifically correct to not go along with the crowd. I believe it is a cycle that will even itself out.
Cleaning up the environment has always been a good idea. But let's not go to extremes that border on the ridiculous.

If it's all a leftist conspiracy, then why is the US lagging the rest of the world in recognizing the problem? Do you really believe this is a global leftist conspiracy?

The rest of the world... | 3:12 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
would love for the USA to cripple its economy with cap and trade taxes and lower us to the standards of a third world economy.

The world leans politically left of the USA. The USA is a center right country, despite last falls election.

Yes, it is a vast conspiracy to make us less competitive in the global marketplace to steal the prosperity that past Americans have enjoyed.

Just look at Detroit. Fifty years ago it was the epitome of a great American city, wealth, jobs, and a great place to live. Today, the US car manufacturers are struggling to compete with foreign manufacturers that have many advantages due to the lack of environmental, labor, health care costs that American companies must deal with.

Our American prosperity has been stolen.

And the leftists/socialists are smiling as we fall down a notch or twenty. All just to satisfy a theory that CO2 causes the earth to warm a degree or two over the span of 30 years!

We can't even predict when the first snow fall will happen more than a week out, yet we are to believe that an anti-American UN based theory is true?
Climate science... | 5:17 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
To @@@Verlo 8:35 a.m. What is undeniable is that the climate is always changing. Science is like other fields--it has its good and it's bad. Some scientists are out to get fame, acclaim and grant money. There are ulterior motives in all fields--even science. Even though scientists have been studying climate for years...the director of the National Weather Service said last year that "climate science is in its infancy...". That doesn't inspire me to be too concerned with what the THINK they know...
