Good Job I had a person in my office today and they coughed all over the place and then wanted to shake hands. NO WAY people need to learn not to go out when sick. I'm glad some of the Utah hospitals have stepped up to the plate.

Some of the people you deal with have Asthma-- when you have Asthma, you may cough-- It is not something that is transmitted though the air.. Personally, I carry what is called a handkerchief and use it. I also use a hand sanitizer as soon and as often as I can if washing my hands in not possible in a business setting. I don't like to shake your dirty hands to begin with, but I do and I wonder when you last washed after picking your nose or going to the rest room.
I am very careful when I do cough but don't hang me by the neck until dead because I do cough on occasion.

should be permanent. Also, the health department should do something about people in buffets licking their fingers when going through the line and then handling the utensils that others are using. It is disgusting and spreads diseases.

and what about clean toilet seats we all sit on? then carry the bacteria around!

Toilette seats, use the satcovers, the first place to gather bacteria are light switches, doorknobs, telefoons, keyboards etc. When at buffets, I always wipe my utensils on a napkin, or kleenex or whatever. I am not shy to let people know that I will not shake hands, where they have sneezez or coughed in......thank you but know thanks. Use common sense and teach especially children to wash their hands (singing happy birthday till the end) after visiting the bathroom. Boys and girls alike.
Hope this will help keep the flu bug in check.

The general public is a bunch of germ spreading parasites. I can wash my hands, cover my mouth when I cough and keep my home and office area clean, however, it is the 99% of all the other people that dont wash their hands, and unhygenic and spread disease. I can only do what I can do, too bad the rest of the public cant exercise common sense.

The CDC produced (or at least sponsored) a couple of good videos to teach children to cover their mouths when coughing, and to wash their hands. Ideally, if no tissue is available, then a person should sneeze into his/her elbow.

No one has to shake anyone's hand, especially if someone has just sneezed or coughed. Asthma suffers do cough. Usually, it isn't productive, if I remember correctly. Nonetheless, don't assume. Protect yourself using tissues, hand sanitizers and good old soap and water.

I totally agree the doorknobs and light switches are among the worst places to get something on your hand, that someone who may have sneezed in his/her hand earlier the touched that surface, left as a gift. I always use a bleach wipe on those surfaces, as bleach will inactivate a virus and kill bacteria.

The videos are easy to find on You Tube and elsewhere. Just use the key words like child handwashing.

I, too, am glad to see IHC, as it appears these are only IHC Hospitals, start prevention early. I hope the other hospital chains and networks announce identical plans within days.

I think it's funny how the FDA take months or even years to approve a drug but somehow the H1N1 vaccine was ready in a matter of weeks or at most just a very few months. Something does not make sense there. I just don't trust it
