McKayla Poulsen was the MVP of this game! Poor marking on a corner is the only reason LP scored. Nothing that they threw at that keeper was going in.She was amazing

must make state | 10:11 a.m. Sept. 30, 2009
LP has gone deep into the state tournament for the past 5 years so not making state this year would be a real crusher. This win over Hillcrest should get them in as the #3 spot. Nice job!
Go Knights | 10:40 a.m. Sept. 30, 2009
Man what a big win. The girls all played great. This was a good game to get some additional girls used to the pace of play. When we get the "walking wounded" back for the game against PG it should be a nice spring board for a quality state run. All started by this win. Not to jump ahead, but this team should be ranked pretty high going into next year, at least in my humble, clearly biased toward Lone Peak opinion.
Maris' Dad | 11:08 a.m. Sept. 30, 2009
This may end up being a double post, but first one didn't show up yet. Thanks DN for making Maris sound so good, but THE play of the game was the defensive save made by defender Alyssa Meinzer. The newspaper gave credit to Maris for that, but Alyssa has made amazing 'saves' just like that all year. The ball looks like it is on its way to a sure goal, and in comes Alyssa sprinting and sliding at the last possible second to save yet another 'sure' goal. The entire LP team came in and played great. Maris didn't play so bad either.

To 9a--Last time LP beat HC 2-1, 'the only reason LP scored, was because LP broke the skull of this varsity keeper, and then and only then did LP score twice against her replacement, a weak JV keeper.' Now, the MVP of this game should be the varsity HC keeper because 'someone else on the HC team did not do their job in stopping that header'-that buzzed past the 'varsity' keeper fresh back from her broken skull? She is a great keeper and played one heck of a game-she had some stops that only the best keepers make. In fact I would say she is one of the best keepers in region 4, but she got scored on, and it wasn't just the rest of the HC teams fault. It was a pefectly placed corner kick by LP, and LP did a good job of getting up and getting a powerful header on it that not too many keepers could have stopped. This was a must win for both of these teams. Evenly matched, HC has played everyone tough this year. You guys will be in state, just have to win your last 2.

LP is rolling. And how does the shortest player on the field get up and head in game winners in BOTH wins over hillcrest? With our starting forwards McKenna and Katie returning, and Maddy Johnson hopefully healthy again, and Maris making crucial goals like she has done in so many games, and Alyssa and Allie, and Brooklyn making key stops-we could do it. Senior wing Megan is looking better every game after missing most of season with ankle injury. Hopefully senior keeper Raven King and senior midfielder Brook will be off crutches soon-we could use their leadership and playoff experience. Little Makenzie #4 (actually she could be shorter than Hamblin) is looking good. Go LP

sorry that last comment were both meant for HC. it was hillcrests goalie that was hurt not brighton. so hillcrest lost TWICE to LP and maris scored in both of them. NOT just because some stupid corner call (you know the truth) and not just because their goalie got hurt. lp stepped it up big. don't cry about it you just better bring it to the field next time.

Did LP win state? | 2:06 p.m. Sept. 30, 2009
Just thought I would check the comment board. Reading all this I thought LP had won state or something better. I don't think winning a conference game warrents all this celebration. Wait...I guess when you lose to AF it does. I completely understand now. I think every non LP person that reads these comments will be at Alta tomorrow to cheer on the Hawks. I guess it's been a while huh?

'just thought I would check the comment board'. Do you have a job or go to school or have a girlfriend? Like you've been so busy and you are finally getting around to checking this board. Is this the kool aide LP, AF hating man again? OK I will cut you some slack. If you think Alta is a good team, then you're not nuts after all. We both agree on that(not that you are not nuts, but that Alta is a good team). LP won a crucial game. Read the article,if you can. Or, better yet check your pants-you might need to change them.

Hey this is the top 5 list, kool aide, LP fan teasing guy. I object to you calling me a LP hater. Reading the comments the LP fans post is great. You guys have a unique way of expressing your thoughts different from any other team in the state. I guess they pass out rose colored glasses at LP home games. Face it someone needs to jump in and keep you guys down to earth. If not you would put LP in the world cup. I get it, you like your kids and cannot see the world from a different perspective. Pointing this out dosen't make me a bad guy. Sorry but I need to say it again, keep drinking the Kool Aide or should I say the local water.

HILLCREST Keeper is one of the best in the region? WHAT there are 7 teams in the region she might be the 6th best keeper.
This is great!. | 5:20 p.m. Sept. 30, 2009
You Lone Peak people are so funny, keep posting this is great. Were you guys the mom's that after your kids were little and got killed 10-0 would hand out treats and say how well they did. AF boo! did that scare you?;
Classic | 10:24 p.m. Sept. 30, 2009
First the HC keeper made some AWESOME saves, and certainly kept them in the game. She deserves some credit for sure.

Second, this was a HUGE win for LP to stay in the hunt. HC we feel your pain, and if we had lost, we would be finding reasons to blame the loss on also. Both our games were good close hard fought matches, that were exciting. We know how you feel about players being taken out. We have 4 starters that were also taken out, and while I want to say some were deliberate, I have to believe they were simply accidents that happen from hard play. The same goes for the accident with your goalie.

Sorry if we took it too far, but this was a very big win especially in light of the injury and state implications. We wish you all the best in your remaining games, specifically against Jordan. We will be rooting you on. Hello to Koral, and Megan from HC. You two played great.
Hillcrest  | 10:57 p.m. Sept. 30, 2009
Thanks so much. We know Korral and Megan are amazing along with all other Hillcrest players and Lone Peak players. Megan is 90 % chance out for the rest of the season. She has been playing all year on a weak knee and has been in pain and she may need surgery, but she is still fighting. Pray for her. Please do cheer Hillcrest on they are the better team and deserve that 4th place spot in playoffs over Jordan. LP good luck along the way. Maybe we will see you again in playoffs.
Classic | 1:27 a.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Man that is too bad. Seems like she has had some bum luck the past few seasons with that knee. Hopefully she can avoid the surgery and get it healed up in the down time between school and club. In looking at the seeding for state, I have to say that I think the 4th place slot is better than the 3rd place slot anyway. If they can get past their first game at Riverton, then they will likely play a very good Davis team (LaRocca girls). The 4th place gets to play two decent teams, but not up to Davis calibre. Then they run into Alta, but it is in the Semi's. Before anyone goes off on me here for looking past teams, I am just going by what I remember the state rankings being.

In any event, hope her knee holds out and does not cause her too much pain the rest of the way.

i still call you an lp hater. all lone peak has been saying on this article is how excited we are about the win and since you're probably a team that lost to us i guess the only way you can get your revenge is to bash on the lp fans? or you just have no life and are bored. if you're not a team that lost to us then good job and what are you so mad about?

if hillcrest loses to jordan does jordan go to the playoffs and not hillcrest? shut them out hillcrest! they got nothin on you.

RE: classy and hillcrest. How do you figure that the 4th place slot is a better place to be than 3rd place? Maybe the air is a bit thinner where you live because you have the 3 time state champ in the lower bracket. That means that you would have to beat Alta in the semi finals to make it to the championship game. The 3rd place plays Riverton who will finish 2nd place in their region and the 4th place will have to play Bingham who finished ahead of Riverton. The bottom line is LP will get knocked out early by Davis and hopefully Hillcrest doesn't make the playoffs at all. Let's go Jordan!

I know we are all getting ahead of ourselves. But how do people know who faces who once into state rounds? Are the brackets already posted somewhere?

I think HC and LP are both much better teams than Jordan. I predict Jordan goes 0-3 rest of the season.
Hillcrest/LP Strange! | 1:27 p.m. Oct. 1, 2009
Two weeks ago LP and Hillcrest were complaining about how dirty each team was. Hillcrest claimed LP took out their keeper and LP was calling Hillcrest the dirtiest team in the state. Now your buddies, sounds like your ganging up on Jordan. This is better than survior, can't wait till you start attacking each other again.

I'm actually from a school that beat lp. That is why I think you guys are nuts. You act like you are the king of the world and in reality your 3rd or 4th in your region? My point is your team doesn't back up the posts the parents are making. That's were the Kool Aide comment comes in. Get it??
LP played good!! | 12:30 p.m. Oct. 2, 2009
Last night we got a dose of humble pie, but we will take it in stride and learn from it and are better for it. We are learning life lessons in addition to soccer lessons. So the loss didn't set us back as far as some would like. Some have said we have rose colored glasses, but the game was a lot closer than the score indicated. We needed a few calls that we didn't get, and we missed a few good shots, but we were in the game to the end. I'm proud of our girls!
to lone peak fans | 3:50 p.m. Oct. 2, 2009
Are you aware that if you had lost this game to Hillcrest you would have been out of the play offs. Just because you won it does not make you the best team in the state.
Re: lp fans | 5:23 p.m. Oct. 2, 2009
haha hey guess what? We did beat hillcrest and we will make it to the play offs. Cool huh? And who said we were the best in the state? Hmmmmm looking at these comments looks like no one did. Get your factsstraight friend.

My niece, Maris Hamblin, is so fun to watch play. She hustles, makes big plays, game winning goals or beautiful assists. She is tenacious on defense, like my bro was when playing me in basketball. She can jump though, and her dad has a 2 inch vertical leap? What is the deal with that bro? Hopefully Maris and her team can go on to state and I can see her juke a few more players. Hey, man, she's family-so don't give me grief over the 'juke a few more players' comment.

nope. no one gets it. because we all sound like kids. keep drinking the kool aide...seriously were not in 6th grade anymore. so how come we can't just talk about the games on here instead all trying to come up with the coolest comebacks and trying to make each other mad.
RE: Get a Clue | 10:31 p.m. Oct. 3, 2009
You are aware that you played our JV team right? Did you perhaps notice that the same players who played in the varsity match also played in the JV game, which, let me see if I recall correctly, oh yes, that beat your unbeatable hawks!!!

When it is all said and done, just remember, that this is about region 4. We want our region to show that it is the hardest region by far. We will be rooting for all of our region 4 teams, and hopefully, they will return the favor. To both Birghton and Alta, we wish you both a good game. You are clearly two awsome teams.
Anonymous | 12:27 a.m. Oct. 4, 2009
LP is alive and probably going to state. Probably the 3 best 5A teams in the state are Alta, Brighton and Davis. LP does have a few premier team players, unlike Alta, Brighton and Davis which are all primarily premier club players-some of the best individual players. Hopefully, LP will be healthy and when they play as a TEAM, controlling the ball, and get a ref who calls a good clean game-they could upset a few teams. Maybe even Mr Koolaides team again-if that team even goes to state. I have not seen Davis play, but I have heard they are really good. Between Brighton and Alta-last region game before state, I'd take Alta to win 9 times out of 10.
Anonymous | 12:44 a.m. Oct. 4, 2009
Hey, here is an idea. Let's say LP plays really bad against PG and loses. If Hillcrest beats Brighton or whoever they play next, and Jordan beats -i think it is AF. Then, Hillcrest and Jordan could TIE each other when they face each other in their last region game-this would eliminate LP from state, and we wouldn't have to hear from their crazy fans for an entire year! Go PG-dig down deep and play like your football team does-and win. If one of us beats the other in our final game, then only one of us will be going to state-what do you think? Can we really do that?

Pretty good season Lone Peak. You could have gone all the way, but, then again so could have Brighton. You should look pretty good next year with Mekenna Fox, Maddy Johnson, Maris Hamblin, Alyssa Meizer, Brooklyn Parker, Allie HAle, Annie Albrecht to name a few all returning. With a solid core and a strong freshman class it should be a good season. Just need a forward to step up and a new goalie, as both starters are seniors. Good luck next year.
