I'm sure the theives at Gold Cross would gladly step in.
The law needs to be changed. Gold Cross should not be able to monopolize the ambulance industry, for the entire area. Just because Gold Cross has been around for 30 years shouldn't mean Southwest shouldn't get the same opportunities.
Shame on the Legislation for sanctioning a state owned monopoly of services. How is this good for anyone but Gold Cross?
Didn't Southwest enter the playing field with full knowledge of who got what opportunities? Look back at archive stories and read where Southwest said they'd do it better and cheaper -- despite Gold Cross warning it wasn't possible. The city agreed, dumped Gold Cross, made happy faces with Southwest and now what??? It will cost the tax payer more money to fix it? Is Southwest performance any better than Gold Cross was? Why can't Southwest produce at the level they claimed was a piece of cake. So let's punish Gold Cross more and put them out of business because they were correct about financial forecasts?
Gold Cross has a more powerful lobbyist, so they win.
Dirty city now wants to take over an unprofitable enterprise so Ralphy can repay the union. Sleazy.
I have been transported by both Southwest Ambulance and Gold Cross. Southwest is a far better provider than Gold Cross will ever be. The Southwest personnel are friendly, caring people. They even called a few days after to check on me. Gold Cross totally screwed up my bill, plus over-charged me. They had problems billing both insurance companies I was covered with. I am glad to live in a city with its own ambulance service now.
This is typical of Southwest move into a region undercut the current provider and if it doesn't work out for them try to change the laws. If that dont work cut and run and leave everyone in a crisis mode. It is not only Southwest but also a rather large health care company in Utah that belives that.(IHC)
Dirty city? Yeah, isn't it awful that SLC is looking at the situation to see if they can provide superior service at a lower cost. That IS awful! Thanks Mayor!
It's funny to read all the negative comments about Gold Cross. I would venture a guess that many of them come from ex-Gold Cross employees. I also worked for GC for several years and now work for a local fire dept. that provides it's own ambulance service. I had a great time at GC and received a lot of valuable experience there. How many of our current fire fighters in this valley have ties to GC? At least 25%. Gold Cross has been providing a great service to this community for a long time. As with any big company there are issues, but the ownership of GC for the most part is honest and concerned about SLC. Fire dept's are no longer fire based, but medical based and the ambulance service is a necessary evil. Until SLC can get their's up and running let's welcome back GC, a local business and tell SW goodbye!

Gold Cross has paid their way with Campaign contributions and lining the pockets of Lobbyists to maintain their exclusive license. Hard to believe that a competitive market for inter-facility service would not benefit the community, hospital facilities and insurance companies.
