I live in Park City, work for one of the resorts and wholeheartedly support the purchase of open space for the city. It's one of the main reasons I scrape by every year to live, work and own a small condo in this town. Heaven is under our feet as well as above our heads.

PC is too suburban already stop sprawl while we can
tired of taxation | 7:58 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
When my tax bill came through this year and the park city component had increased by 27%, primarily due to the issuance of open space bonds, the reality of the cost of open space hit me. I voted for the prior open space bonding ability, I will NOT vote for it again! Enough is enough.

"Cows don't go to school?" Perhaps Park City's financial development would be enhanced if a program were put in place to send cows to school!
controlled development is answer | 8:30 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Most developments that occur usually set aside over 80 percent open space anyway, why not allow them to continue with tight controls. This way the tax payers don't pay for the land.

Many of the people there have no problem with being involved in development in other places.

I grew up in Bountiful, and as I look back I can see how some careful planning and open space purchases could have saved the city from the kind of growth it has undergone in the last 40 to 50 years.

There are few trails and very little open space in Bountiful, and those trails that do exist are high on the mountainside, not in the city where people of all ages can enjoy them. Mueller Park was once a wonderful place for hiking, but now it's filled with homes packed against each other on small lots.

I applaud any city that does what has to be done to preserve open space for the benefit of its citizens. It isn't easy, and it isn't cheap, but it pays off in quality of life.

Park City is a wonderful place and all of us treasure the beauty.
However, considering the current economic times $40 million dollars for Open Space is possibly enough...(for now).
Two ways to evaluate what has been spent so far:
1.) Cost per person: $4,959 (for each man, woman, and child...8,066 residents/$40 million).
2.) Cost per housing unit: $5,030 (7,952 housing units...primary 3,179, secondary 4,773).

The purchase of the Sweeney property would be a terrific investment for PC and its citizens.
