I'm all for extending the yearly scrimmage.
UteFan | 11:00 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
I wouldn't mind hearing about the Cougs getting smacked every year by utah st. It will happen soon now that a Utah man is running utah st. Cougs are obviously on a slide down to the bottom of the conference. It will be years before they make it back to the middle. Utah will remain on top.
Mr. Football | 11:15 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
So i've noticed almost everyone has been hard on Mr. Logan and his size at cb. He is a very good tackler and plays well defending the flats but whenever they get down to the red zone or close to it the qb's can just throw it up for grabs in the end zone and most of the time it's a TD for the other team. Why not sub a taller db in for him just for the red zone? He can still play a huge role for the team playing on the rest of the field. What do you think?

As I've said, BYU gains nothing from this match-up.

If want a "real" rivalry then we need to win more than once every 20 years.

Kind of like how the Utes have all BYU coaches?
Y fan | 7:52 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Saw some clips of Robert Turbin. He looks to be the real deal. Good effort and solid yards after the catch. Glad to see USU found a competent quarterback this year. Hearing complaints about Nelson make my ulcers flare up. My permission to let him have it if he gets on the field though. We were on the other side of that with UCLA. (Yes he is allowed to transfer if he wants to, and he is going somewhere that he thinks is better for him, but it just isn't freaking fair!)

Looking forward to a good game Friday.
Re:Anonymous (youre funny) | 7:55 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Except for a victory which isn't a given in Provo anymore JUST LOOK AT WHAT FSU did to you. Maybe you need to play somewhere more in your "league," that will help you avoid the embarrassing losses you just experienced on National TV, I mean the Mountain or Versus or whatever lame station it is you play on. By "gaining nothing" it seems like you gain more than you did when you lost all respectability at home:)

Hilariously brainless comment.

How about consecutive weeks ranked in the top 25?
to Re: Re: UteFan | 8:18 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
"you're" - as in:

1) I met your brother, and he said you're a real nice fellow.

2) Your prediction does not make sense.

3) You're going to regret putting money on your team.

Keep it up, you're going toget it! If you continue to struggle, just substitute "you are" it helps me out. Don't get me started on "lose", "loose".

The Aggie argument for competitiveness with BYU seems to be:

USU = WAC = Boise State = beat BYU twice during the Crowton era

Let's be honest; the Aggies have had one of the worst football teams in the country for dcades and Utah State hasn't even been competitive in the WAC, which is a MUCH WEAKER conference than the MWC. The Aggies haven't finished the season with a winning record since 1993, which is the last time Utah State beat BYU, barely, 58-56.

The Aggies haven't beaten BYU in Provo since 1978, which was the last time USU beat the Cougars by more than a FG, 24-7. Interestingly, the Aggies lost to Weber State 25-44 and Utah 20-23 to finish the 1978 season at 7-4, the best record Utah State has had in the last 30 years!!

RE: Mr. Football

I think subbing for Logan in Red Zone areas isn't a bad idea. We don't have much experience at corner, other than Bradley and Logan. Logan's problems against CSU weren't Red Zone problems, but were PI problems. He needs to look back for the ball. He did make some nice plays, which were overlooked by some. I look for "Logan" to have a great game vs. USU.
You want a real rivalry? | 10:03 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Then get a real football team. Either that or only play Weber State and they can be your big rival, although they'd probably whup you every year too now that McBride is their coach.
Come on Anderson | 10:20 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
This article pinpoints Utah States problems over the years. Simular to what Utah used to do in the past, "We don't care about winning our conference, we just want to beat big brother." If Anderson wants to be a legit coach then he needs to focus on winning the games that he should win in his conference. An upset of Utah or BYU does nothing for their program. USU needs to pull it together and start winning, then when they are legit they can start talking BYU and Utah.
Utah | 10:22 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
I enjoyed the loss you had to a team that BSU dominated on national TV, ESPN baby!!! That's why BSU is number 5 and utah is not in the top 25 at all they have no repect even after the sugar bowl.

Another Rivalry | 11:31 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
How many arhrivals can one team have? From BYU's perspective, the only rivalry exists in late November. From other school's perspective, it's Wyoming, Utah Sate, New Mexico, Utah, (Hawaii during the WAC era). Why? Because everyone's always gunning for the top dog!
TV | 11:47 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Is this game going to be televised on BYUTV? Or is it relegated to the Mountain or Versus again?
Re: 6-degrees | 11:50 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
"WAC, which is a MUCH WEAKER conference than the MWC"
Lets compare this statement to current 2009's results: MWC one ranked team - BYU 20. WAC one ranked team Boise State 5.
MWC 2 games against ranked opponents 1 win, 1 blow-out loss. WAC 4 games against ranked opponents, 1 win, 2 close losses, 1 blow-out loss.
6 games between WAC and MWC teams. WAC won 2, MWC won 4.
Games of notable interest:
Weber 23 Colorado 24

Southern Utah 19 San Diego 35
Southern Utah 34 Utah State 53

Oregon 31 Utah 24
Oregon 8 Boise State 19

There appears to be more parity between the two conferences than your parochial mind believes.

May you avoid such fallacious and arrogant statements in the future, that is my hopes.

Good luck, and good riddance.

BYU kill baby brother 49-0. I will also enjoy watching little brother squirm seeing BYU beat a team worse than they did.
uh... look up the facts! | 12:39 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Last time I checked, TCU (you know the team that beat Boise State last year) is in the MWC and is ranked...wait a minute and I'll look it up...(you know this internet thingie is amazing, you can actually look up facts before spouting off)! TCU, a member of the MWC, is ranked #11 in the AP top 25 and #10 in the USA Today Poll. That's TWO Mountain West teams ranked in the Top 20! Oh, and Weber State lost to Colorado STATE (not Colorado). You know, arguments have more validity when you actually know what you're talking about! MWC and WAC are NOT, I repeat, NOT in the same boat! MWC is a better league!
Pac-10 Rules | 12:55 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
No one cares about the WAC or the MWC. Both are weak by Pac-10 standards. bYu fans (or Utah fans) picking on USU is laughable. Both conferences trying desprately for years to earn respect and still don't deserve it.
Cougarf@n | 1:22 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Anderson can establish a rivalry by winning games outside the BYU-USU game. If USU makes a game out of it every year but goes on to lose 6-10 games a year then this game will never be a rivalry and BYU probably drops the Aggies from their schedule in five years. Make waves in the WAC and the importance of this game increases significantly. Nobody cared about the BYU/Utah game in the 80's and it became relevant when Utah suited up good teams in the 90's. There's no reason the same thing can't happen with USU, but it's what happens outside this game that makes the difference. You can start by beating Boise State, I'll be a huge fan of USU football for that game.
RE: Pac-10 Rules | 1:26 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
You're kidding right? Boise beats Oregon, Oregon barely beats Purdue and narrowly escapes a come from behind victory by a first year quarterback against Utah then crushes one of the more highly touted Pac-10 teams in Cal. That's not even saying anything about USC's inconsistency. You're right: the Pac-10 rules!
All The Blah Blah Blah | 1:44 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
WAC vs MWC...who cares!!! Some people don't get who the real ene,y is...it's the BCS. According to those that have the BCS...MWC and WAC are just a blip on the map. They will allow one team from one of these conferences to play in their "good boys club" tournament at the end of the year, but they will never be allowed to play in the national championship game. All this talk of Utah putting down BYU or vise-a-versa, MWC putting down WAC or vica-a-versa is ridiculous. Fans of both conferences should be cheering for the good teams in each conference to win as much a possible to put pressure on the real enemy...the BCS.

The current model of college football is a joke.
Ute fan 2 | 2:16 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
If there is a team in the MWC that would lose to Utah State then it would be BYU...so i think its good that the coach is actually getting serious about taking them down. Cause it wont happen against the Utes.

IdahoBYU Fan | 7:05 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
I would like to see Utah St get better and be competative. I think they have the right coach for the job. 53 points against SUU doesn't impress me so much, but 30 against Texas A&M does! If BYU's defense has an uninspired game - this could be close! I run a weekly college football contest for about 40 interested college football fans in the area. I have given Utah St 14 points and the votes are split...

How cool would it be if Utah starts Challenging Boise over the next couple of years and pushing the to 25! Go BYU to win Friday... but keep up the good work Utah st!
Coug | 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Utah State hasn't beat BYU since 1993. Last year Utah State fans started chanting overrated at BYU in a game they were down 34-0. They only scored in garbage time. And you want to call BYU fans the losers?
Anonymous | 9:01 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
utah state was never down 34-0 last year. but thanks for trying to sound cool. 24-0 at the end of one. then usu won the next three quarters 14-10. i dont think it was necessarily garbage time either if your "heisman" max was still in the game getting sacked and picked off. thanks for your great analysis though. and usu fans are sorry for cheering for their team. shoot our bad.
re: anonymous | 9:50 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
"usu won the next three quarters 14-10".

Wow, they won three quarters, really? Our bad, USU is the greatest team of the decade! Congrats on that. I didn't bother to look it up, did they win each of the three quarters, or just the sum of the three?

Where are the BSU fans coming from? Just generic WAC fans looking out for USU, or is their schedule so bad right now that they are bored. Wish BSU had the opportunity to play a legitimate team this year. It is going to become progressively difficult for them to justify a top 5 ranking as the season progresses (we beat 9 unranked teams, we are awesome). That will become even more difficult if TCU and Houston remain undefeated.

Looking forward to a great game Friday. Looks like USU answered the QB question. Expect some solid play.
re: Anonymous 9:01 | 9:51 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
You should go check out the scoring summary. BYU scored a touchdown with 1:26 left to go in the third to go up 34-0. Utah State scored two touchdowns in the fourth to end the game 34-14. Shoot your bad.
BYU Zoob | 8:50 a.m. Sept. 30, 2009

Nothing more.
Surprised | 8:58 a.m. Sept. 30, 2009
Huh? I thought Utah State discontinued their football program many years ago! But then, I only pay attention to the top 100 teams, so I may have simply overlooked them.
SpecKK | 1:20 p.m. Sept. 30, 2009
BYU and USU have a rivalry. It's in basketball. They'd have a better basketball rivalry if one of those games wasn't usually played during the winter holidays when there aren't students around.

It's true that BYU is padding their schedule when they play USU along with the other lower tier MWC teams. Yet it helps BYU to have a chance fix up some weaknesses in a real game and it gives USU a chance to work on becoming a real football team.
Yawn... | 1:47 p.m. Sept. 30, 2009

Basketall season is on the horizon and we zoobs, hopefully, will give the best team in the state, with the best coach in the state, in one of the toughest places to play in the nation, as good as game as the Aggies will give us this weekend! Unless the Aggies pull off the upset, the scores might resemble each other in the Spectrum! I love my Cougars but there's not a chance in ???? we win in Logan!! Cap on the Aggies for now, because rettrubution will be swift and just! We reap what we sow!!
Shock the World | 7:22 p.m. Sept. 30, 2009
Aggies will shock the world on Friday night when they knock off Sister Hall and the Cougs. There will be no stopping Turbin with 200 yards rushing and three scores. Shock and awe!!
