Problem | 8:38 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
TCU will have their BCS hopes dashed by having to play the Cougies who will likely lose at least 2 or 3 of their remaining games and will pull down the Horned Frogs SOS. Bummer, eh!

you don't have a vote......... Boise is number five and TCU will not pass them!
UteFan | 11:06 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
Cougs only win 2-3 more games this year. TCU, Air Force, Wyoming, UNLV, SDSU and Utah will destroy them. Cougs are looking weak with a bad defense and an INT happy QB. I'd be real worried about Utah st. since they are being ran by a real Utah man.
Coca Cola Recovery | 12:32 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Really Utefan? 2-3 more games? Worry about your own team. Without Asiata, your team loses a big portion of its playbook (wildcat) and it places a lot more pressure on Brian Cain.

BYU has lost one game. USU, UNLV, SDSU, New Mexico, Air Force and Wyoming are more than just probable wins. If BYU loses more than one of those, it would be surprising. Also, given that they have Utah and TCU at home, they are likely to at least split those games. At best, BYU wins out. At worst, they are a three loss team.
gdog3 | 3:21 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
yeah Coke man, I see Utah and BYU losing 2 more games, making 3 losses for each when they face each other in late November. The loser of that game finishes 8-4.

Harmonizer | 4:44 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Mr. Harmon, your Club of Disappointed Dreams is missing the perennial top 10 team that annually suffers an early season loss to USC - Ohio State. Even at home and with an experienced Terrell Pryor, they couldn't get it done against a rebuilding Trojan squad. Never forget the Buckeyes when you write of disappointed or disappointing teams.
good news | 5:43 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Every team each year goes through a slump. This is no different for BYU. I'd rather they go through a slump now when they have to play Utah State than when they are gearing up for TCU. Go through the slump. get past it in the next couple of weeks, and then be ready to play TCU.
Re: UteFam | 6:41 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
UteFan- I would be more concerned about your Utes than whether or not BYU will win 2-3 more games this year. Losing your runningback won't do you any favors. BYU will win their normal 10 games this year, and the only team that will give us a run will be TCU....

Not too worried about Utah this year...
Anonymous | 6:45 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Too bad BYU blew it. Since the FSU game, I've read a lot in non-Utah media about how BYU blew it. Pity.
Re: To Bad.... | 6:47 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
TCU is a ten times better team than Boise State...My prediction, Boise State loses to Tulsa when they play at Tulsa in 2 weeks.

Also, good luck against that incredibly hard schedule you play. I believe out of 117 NCAA Division 1 teams, you rank about 113 in strength of schedule...

QUICK COMPARISON | 7:59 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Anyone take a look at the stats of WEBER STATE VS. CSU and BYU vs. CSU???

If I am a Cougar fan that is embarrassing, not as embarrassing as the loss to FSU, because BYU and its faithful (but intellectually challenged fan base) had already crowned themselves BCS busters which they will have to wait until 2084 to happen again. That would mark the one hundred year anniversary of when BYU beat 6-5 Michigan to win the NC!!!
Anonymous | 8:06 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Will the Boise State v Cal Davis game be on TV?
My preseason predictions | 8:08 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
I had BYU with three losses this year (OU,FSU, TCU). Three one loss MWC teams for a three way tie, and BYU getting picked for the Las Vegas bowl again.

If TCU stays undefeated, they will go to a BCS game and BYU still goes to Vegas as the second place team. hurray.

I'll start looking for Vegas plane tickets. Maybe we can play UCLA again. Norm would like nothing better than to light us up after the last meeting.

Wish we had a way of determining how good BSU was this year. I know we will never see a playoff system. Just wish Boise had perhaps Virginia Tech mid season.

Looking forward to a good game Friday.
Speed kills! | 8:17 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
BYU fans,
Have you quickly forgotten last year's game against TCU? Do you remember how their speed destroyed you--much like FSU? You will not match up against TCU, so don't get your hopes up. BYU has NO TEAM SPEED, and teams like FSU, TCU, and Utah will expose this fact.
RE: Speed kills! | 9:07 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
As a faithful, if intellectually challenged, BYU fan, I fear you are right, or at least 2/3 right. FSU already exposed BYU's lack of team speed. TCU will probably do the same, as they did last year. Utah, on the other hand, may not have the horses to dominate BYU. Without Asiata, the Utes' offense is weak and predictable. Utah hasn't shown itself to be a powerful team in its games so far, and will have to improve a lot by the end of the year to have what it takes to go into Provo and defeat the Cougars. We'll see, as our comments are totally meaningless. The truth will play out on the field.
Logical | 9:10 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Speed Kills - you must not have seen the BYU-FSU game. Speed clearly was not the difference. Call it lack of heart, focus, intensity, not completing plays, poor preparation or whateveer, but it WAS NOT speed that made the difference. You're dillusional if you think Utah is, as a team, that much faster than BYU. We'll see in November. Good luck AT Colorado St., AT UNLV, AT TCU, and AT BYU. Yikes!! I smell at least three losses.
5'6" is shorter than my wife | 10:10 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Dick, I'm not sold on Brian Logan

The reason Logan has so many pass break-ups is because every team we play almost exclusively throws his way. A sign of a good corner is when the other team doesn't even attempt to throw his way.
Cali Coug | 10:18 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Re: QUICK COMPARISON

That just means BYU will have won the NC twice in 200 years while the Yewets will have won zero NC's.
In "84" the Y beat the u 55-7, the Y did beat a 6-5 UM team...which is much better than beating a 3-9 UM team in 2008.
I agree with Speed | 10:26 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Logical,
Utah, as a team, is much quicker than BYU. This was certainly true last year, and it is true again this year. Especially if you look at the defense. Utah's defense is far quicker than BYU's. When a team is so much quicker on defense, they cause teams to panic, lose focus, rush plays, and "not complete plays." It's the defensive speed that makes teams unable to executed and complete plays.
@Logical | 10:50 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Of course speed isn't the problem as to why BYU's losses the past couple of years have come to FSU, Arizona, Utah, and TCU. As Bronco says, it is all about execution.

The problem is that the teams BYU loses to just execute faster than BYU.
re: speed kills | 10:59 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
A lack of focus and intensity by our defense was BYU's downfall against FSU, not "superior" FSU speed. On many plays our defense simply wasn't trying to get off of FSU's blocks and let FSU's O-line and receivers hold their blocks way too long.
Utah | 11:17 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
always plays better in Provo, and Asiata isn't the only back that Utah has. I think if Utah played BYU today they would do just fine win or lose. I don't know why BYU fans feel like they have an NFL level football team out there on the field. If Florida States' speed killed BYU that bad than any team with half descent team speed and skill is going to have a good game against us. I think USU's offense will do well this weekend, but they don't have the defense to pull the game out yet.
Aaron W. | 11:27 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
I know some of the players for BYU and they have that TCU game marked, you better believe it.
Speed kills | 11:45 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Oh yeah I forgot how slow and nonathletic OU is. They are SO SLOW that is the only way BYU could have won. Seriously, Oklahoma has had two outstanding blowout games WITH their backup quarterback. Let the boys play the game. BYU's does have some problem with speed, but mostly it has been getting up for games.
How to beat TCU | 12:15 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
John Beck beat a GOOD TCU team on their home turf. This is how...

1. Short passing game. Move the chains picking up first downs. BYU has two good tight ends that Hall can effectively use to do this.
2. Run the ball more that pass. BYU has 4 GOOD running backs and they need to use they against TCU. TCU wrecks havoc by their fast, athletic defense but they have trouble against teams that just power the ball down their throats.
3. Don't turn the ball over
4. BYU defense needs to take chances like it did against OU. Lots of blitz's. Can't let the TCU QB stand back and take his time to pick out receivers.
Anonymous | 12:21 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
TCU and Utah will beat you guys in Provo. As always, you guys do well against the teams you are supposed to beat, and get whipped by teams of equal or better caliber. Chokelahoma plays that way sometimes too apparantly.

And as far as losing Asiata making the Utes MORE predictable, that is just not true. Giving the ball to asiata up the middle WAS predictable. Once he was out of the game, we saw the best play-calling of the season with several plays we hadn't seen ever. But thanks for trying.
Really?? | 1:02 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
TCU is ten times better than Boise?? Take your meds and go to bed, Boise will be in a BCS bowl TCU will not! Deal with it now and enjoy it.

Batman | 1:09 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
I like Logan and think he is an upgrade from last year along with the rest of the secondary, but agree with the sediment that teams are going his way for a reason, they think they can take advantage of him. He is a stud tackler and closer, and very much improved from Howard in that regard.

Also, as far as the CSU game, 3 PIs and 2 TDs does not equal a good game and I hope he and Bronco don't think that. It is encouraging to hear Logan talk about the things he can do better like get his head around to the ball sooner. He also needs to stay physical, but watch his hands. I think he will improve, but do wonder about his ability to play the corner routes in the endzone. I might consider putting Buckner in there to get some more size?
Idahoan | 1:47 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Thank you for not putting BSU in your top five. I'm not sure they aren't a Top Five team, but I'm not sure they are either. Since BYU dropped after a win against CSU, BSU perhaps should drop after a win against UC Davis. BSU would probably get in a BCS bowl instead of TCU (or any MWC team) if TCU has a loss and BSU doesn't. Yet how do we know that BSU is better and deserves it? Truth is BSU's schedule doesn't let it prove anything, other than that they can get one big game a year.
js | 1:57 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Logan is fast and has played well at times, but there is one thing he has got to start doing. When running with the intended receiver, he has got to start looking for the ball coming at him. He has a tendancy to look at the reciever, and not turn and look at the ball coming toward them. He's had some interference calls that could probably have been avoided if he were looking for the ball.
Anonymous | 2:24 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Logan is third in passes defended? That begs the question, is he being thrown at more often than most other corners to have knocked down so many throws? Also, where does he rank in pass-interference calls?
BYU mooching.. | 3:44 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Maybe TCU can "earn" some more money for the BYU cougars much like Utah did last year.

Too bad BYU can't do it on their own.
RE: Cali Coug | 3:46 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
What about the 3-8 Pitt team your pathetic squad beat to open up the mythical 1984 season?
Cougarf@n | 3:47 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Why are so many Utes posing as BYU fans. The CSU game was not a bad win. I realize CSU is no Oklahoma or FSU, but they will be bowl eligible at season's end and they are not a bad football team. They will probably go on to challenge AF for the fourth spot in the MWC (if not Utah for the third). I guarantee the Utah/CSU game will be just as close and CSU will move the ball on Utah. I expect Utah to win, but I wouldn't be particularly surprised by a loss.
itsajelly | 4:06 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Batman: You agree with the "sediment"??? I wasn't aware sediment had posted on here anywhere. I agree more with the pea gravel. Logan is an upgrade kind of like a chevy citation over a gremlin. Utah has really fast K-cars.
Re: To(o) bad | 5:04 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Actually, he does have a vote...Harris Poll.

And sad for you, if TCU is undefeated, yet again an undefeated MWC team will jump your poor broncos (assuming they're still undefeated, despite their patsy schedule).
I agree with How to | 10:32 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
OU had just as fast a D as FSU and much faster than Utah ever dreamed of having. The problem is in the execution and not just with the defensive backs. It starts with the D line which does not penetrate and with the linebackers who are often out of position or have poor technique.

Further, TCU can be beaten just like OSU beat USC last year. They ran right at them up the gut. That negated the USC speed. When they load the box then you pass. IF Unga is healthy and the younger faster backs don't turn the ball over BYU can run a ball control offense and beat TCU. Clemson should have beaten them.

TCU's defense is decent but BYU's offensive line should be better by the time the play TCU.

The big problem is the running QB. That is mainly a coaching problem. BYU might get it fixed by TCU?
MiP | 3:51 p.m. Oct. 2, 2009
This september is added proof they shouldn't come out with polls until the first Sunday in October. The preseason rankings for example, are a joke. Ask Steve Spurrier.

On the other hand, having preseason/September rankings allow some teams to have an unbelievable upset (ex: BYU over #3 Pitt in 1984---which ended up with a losiong record or when Utah beat #11UCLA 2 years ago---a team that ended the regular season at 6-6).

But personally, I would prefer if the first poll was after this weekend. For example, we'd know:

--Is Texas A&M for real?...we'd see after Arkansas
--Is Oklahoma really top 10 material?....how will they do against Miami?
--Is the Washington team who beat USC for real or just Stanford fodder---we'll see how they do vs Notre Dame.

etc., etc.
