We can only hope "MITT HAPPENS" in 2012...
Brother Chuck Schroeder | 4:21 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
Mitt Romney will be back in Utah to raise money for HIS fellow Moderate and RINO Republicans around the country?.

I am sure Utah will stuff HIS pocket's full.

They'll feed anyone with a R after their name, and a mormon.

Let him TRY that in the south east, they would tar and feather him then run him out of town on a rail.

He's a looser.

A quiter.

And, a RINO.

No one needs him nor likes him. Not even Glenn Beck, another Mormon.

That's my view.

Good Luck | 4:34 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
It BETTER be for your R friends. The nation will NOT elect a Mormons to the White House.

The "Greedy" Never Stop! | 4:38 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
Go ahead you "sheep" and stuff the pockets of the greedy. They have no conscience, morals or feelings for regular people. All the more reason we need political financial reform and quick, Stop these filthy rich from milking voters. This is so sickening I could just lose it. 2010 campaign under way "Already". Stop, stop, stop!
Mitt the spineless | 4:39 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
Mitt is the used car salesman of politics. He literally say whatever to please whomever. He has the idealogical backbone of linguini. If we want true change, consistency, and constitutional government, the one man is Ron Paul.
Re: Brother Chuck | 4:46 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
First of all, you spelled "loser" wrong, the irony was not lost on me.

He may be a bit of a RINO on social issues, but our country is in an economic crisis, and he is fiscally conservative, which is the most important thing. There he is no RINO.

Who cares if he's Mormon!?! And from your post it appears you would consider tarring and feathering him a better response to his visiting Utah than giving him money?

Is anyone supposed to believe such an obviously belligerent hateful rhetoric? Especially from someone who unnecessarily double spaces between each line taking up way too much space?!? Not me!
Please, Mitt | 4:56 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
Get a Job!
Oh Please | 5:20 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
Oh, yeah, I can't think of anything better to do with my money than to donate it to a billionaire.
Really | 5:27 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
A Mormon will never be elected to the WH?

If a black abortionist with a communist background with community Organizer experience.....then Mitt won't have any problems getting elected.....Obama has already failed and AMERICA wants him out.... YESTERDAY!!

Go Mitt!
Anonymous | 6:09 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
Mitt Romney in MA, there are only two categories into which fit all places, people and things. There are those inside of government and those outside. If something is inside, it needs to be nurtured, protected and subsidized. If something is outside, it needs to be regulated and taxed. Then he says he's a GOP conservative and wants money?. I don't think so.
Mitt's | 9:27 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
a used car salesman???? Then what do you call Obama, who has done exactly the opposite of everything he campaigned for. Talk about saying one thing and doing the other, Obama is the expert. Oh yeah, I quess Joe Wilson already told us. BTW, I voted for the ONY credible canidate in the election by writting in HILLARY!!!
Romney can't win | 10:53 p.m. Sept. 28, 2009
Democrats aren't his problem, it's the Republican base. The base is evangelicals and they don't like Mormons. They will never vote for one.

Romney would have a better chance of winning if he were a Democrat. Unlikely but possible. He won in MA.
re: Mitt's a used car salesman | 1:41 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
No one said Obama wasn't a used car salesman himslef...he did campaign on bringing our troops home etc...and had dome nothing but increase troop count. However, this discussion is about Romney. Romney tries to be all things to all people. Look at Ron Paul for consistency, clarity, and constitutional understanding.

I[m a bit dibious about Mitt and all of his fundraising. I have read that he uses the lion's share of these funds to promote himself and very little on other's behalf. I think he is positioning himself for 2012. Anyone who would swoop into town and bilk the people out of $5,ooo for an opportunity to be touching shoulders with a failed politician is suspect. I really hope Mitt just goes away. He has never stopped campaigning since 2008 and it is pretty easy to see through this little scheme.
Anonymous | 4:18 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
SEE MITT.
SEE MITT RUN.
SEE MITT RUN FOR PRESIDENT.
RUN, MITT, RUN.
RUN TO UTAH TO COLLECT CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS.
MITT IS TIRED.
THE PEOPLE ARE EVEN MORE TIRED.
MITT HASN'T QUIT RUNNING SINCE 2008.
Anonymous | 4:25 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Romney? Ain't going to happen. Throwing good money after bad. Wait, he pushed government health care, like Obama! But then who knows where he stands on anything for the moment.
Anonymous | 4:39 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Mitt doesn't have to announce. He's like a nine month pregnant woman. It's obvious. He's hanging out. This pregnancy has lasted too long. Deliver and move on. We need younger blood with fresher ideas in 2012.
Anonymous | 4:44 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Mitt seems to be compulsive about the idea of living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. I haven't seen one since the likes of Al Gore to top him. Please Mr. Romney go back to Ma or CA or NH or wherever you live.
Elder Jacobs | 5:09 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Brother Mitt's track record is a model for every
LDS mom for a son. Wealthy, handsome, moral and believes that there are men on the moon.
Meeze | 5:25 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Nitt certainly has determination. There is nobody who even has tne endurance of our man, Mitt. He has been campaigning solidly for over three years. I'm afraid that people will have the same old objections--flip flopper, not any history of military service in six male family members, elitist who owns several homes, hard to connect with, and the list goes on. It is curious to me why Mitt is unable to let go.
Anonymous | 5:39 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Romney is stumping alright. He is shameful. He;d knock one aside the head and it would be hard to tell what hit. He is a charlatin and only Utahns are gullible enough not to be able to see him for what he is. All this fundraising is a bunch of crock.
@Mitt's  | 6:13 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
What? Obama is doing exactly what he said he was going to do during the election you sore losers just cannot handle it.
@really | 6:21 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Really? Did you miss the article in the world and nation section? Obama still has a 55% approval rating despite over a year of this same baseless rhetoric by the far right, when are your losers finally going to get it no one but your far repub friends care about your lies.
New Yorker | 6:23 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Chuckless,
I'm glad you are thrilled with the current empty suit that we currently have in the White House. I would feel much more comfortanle with a guy that has forgot more about economics than the Chicago olympics head cheerleader will ever know.
However, I do agree with others that the bigotted right wing of the GOP would rather have a someone like obamba than a Mormon.
That is why I am an Independent.
Forrest | 6:29 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
How could the former governor of Utah support someone as arrogant as McCain? Romney would be a much better choice.
Anonymous | 6:41 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
But who is Mitt? Where does he really stand on the issues? Why does conservative Utah love this Massachusetts politician with some liberal past policies? Is it merely because of his religion? If so, they should support Harry Reid who is much more grounded in the West and is actually less liberal than Romney's history.
Dear Mitt | 7:39 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
If your gonna stump, you really ought to stump where your not already preaching to the choir. Maybe you weren't paying attention the first time; Utah is already in your back pocket. Do you think that has changed? If you want to win, you'll have to convince people other than the residents of Utah that your worthy of their vote. You do realize that Utah only has 5 electoral votes, right? And 5 divided by 538 isn't exactly a large number.
Evets | 7:45 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
I have liked Mitt for his economic and business background and therefore I voted for him in the last election.

His backing Bennett has made me question his judgement and his overall political position.
Doug | 8:22 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Unfortunately for us, Mitt's "free and strong" means building supposed strength by giving up freedoms to the racist fearmongers, globalists, and military-industrialists he has been seduced by. This foreign policy he is advancing is the height of insanity and crippling pride

I wish people would at least consider the words of Pres. J. Reuben Clark (who spent many years in the State department in addition to his LDS callings):

"For America has a destiny — a destiny to conquer the world — not by force of arms, not by purchase and favor, for these conquests wash away, but by high purpose, by unselfish effort, by uplifting achievement, by a course of Christian living; a conquest that shall leave every nation free to move out to its own destiny; a conquest that shall bring, through the workings of our own example, the blessings of freedom and liberty to every people, without restraint or imposition or compulsion from us; a conquest that shall weld the whole earth together in one great brotherhood in a reign of mutual patience, forbearance, and charity, in a reign of peace to which we shall lead all others by the persuasion of our own righteous example."
Brother, Learn to Spell | 8:40 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Hey Brother Chuck. When you attack some one as a "Looser," you ought to at least run spell-check and learn correct spelling is Loser. Pretty embarassing. Undermines the credibility of what you're saying, which is attacking a good man. Pity.
Why Utah? | 8:43 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
The republicans will ALWAYS get money from here. Mitt should be working in bluer states.
I think it's because like all Mormons, they only really feel comfortable around their own kind.
That's why the nation will never elect a Mormon.
Lola
re; brother Chuck | 8:45 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
considering your screen name (which is either a patronizing slam or an arrogant self edification) you are not in a position to lecture regarding the ethics of those who vote for a Mormon.

Liberty | 8:48 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Uhhh, perhaps someone should tell Mitt that the election is over and he lost.

Utahans dumped over $6 million into a failed campaign. Republicans have been in disarray ever since. We can solve this by throwing money at the problem? Are these people really conservatives?
MEGR | 8:52 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
TO REALLY,
YOU MUST NOT BE ABLE TO READ CORRECTLY. OBAMA HAS A 55% NON APPROVAL.
ALSO ROMNEY DOESN'T NEED THE MONEY HE IS CAMPAINING FOR, HE IS HELPING OTHERS THAT DO NEED IT. ALL YOU NEGATIVE PEOPLE NEED TO GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF THE SAND, AND TAKE A GOOD LOOK AS TO WHAT IS HAPPENING TO AMERICA.
Sleuth  | 9:37 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
A simple comparison of men shows that Mitt does things and gets them done and Obama makes speeches.

I don’t like Mitt Romney, but for my own reasons. However, Mitt has proven that he can get things done with transparency and with bipartisanship. He does not alienate and polarize half of the jurisdiction he is commissioned to administrate and he doesn’t have to denigrate his country apologizing to the point where it loses prestige.

In contrast, President Obama has proven that he cannot get things done in transparency or with bi-partisanship, even when he is spending more money than all the past US Presidents of the United States combined. Also he has made disparaging, denigrating statements against America’s interests that in essence make our enemies cheer, our allies worried, and causes America to lose prestige.

That is the bottom line.

Romney Rocks!  | 9:43 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Oh, I sense the hand-wringing now among the mormon-haters and the liberal folks. Here's Romney, an accomplished, smart and proven leader, former Governor with a great record, self-made millionaire, a nice-man with record of service to church and community, who is good looking, articulate, and principled, and has a wonderful and successful family. Gee, there is so much there to hate and be critical of, now, isn't there? Many of you are just jealous. We need someone like Romney who has actually run a business before, not once but many times, and turned them around. That's exactly what we need right now.
55% in Huffington poll..lol | 9:53 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Obama doesn't have 55% approval rating!!! And those who disapprove has now risen above 42%,,,,higher than anytime for BUSH II....Liberal Lies...Obama is 52% at most in any neutral poll!
Brother Chuck Schroeder | 10:09 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Who cares if I spelled Loser with an extra O. I did that on purpose to emphasize the fact that Romney is a Loooooooooooooooooooooser. You need to get a life and stop looking for spelling errors in a comment forum. Who is the pathetic one? One who purposely spells the word loser wrong or the one who goes into comment forums with his spell checker to assure spelling is meeting their standards. Pathetic English Professor who never has misspelled anything in his or her life
Re:@Really | 10:12 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday(Today) shows that 32% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-eight percent (38%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -6 ......Overall, 49% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance. Fifty (50%) disapprove.

Now where exactly is your 55% poll numbers in the world/Nation section?

Thats what I thought...you were talking about January 2009! LOL!!
Go Mitt........lets hope the Gov of NY doesn't convince Obama to pullout in 2012 as he is bringing down the rest of the Liberal Party...LOL!!!
Anthony Kane | 10:19 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
So Mitt returns? I moved to Utah 11 years ago, and have dropped my republican party affiliation as a result.

Never before have I seen just how much damage ULTRA conservatism could do to the party.

I gave to the cause back then. But if Mitt thinks he's going to get another dollar from me, he's delusional.

I learned my lesson. The GOP is a party by, of and for the rich...ONLY.

I would hope others feel the same way.

Someone above posted that Mormons really only feel comfortable around their own kind. Might it be that republicans OTHER than Mormons have also seen the light, and ol' Mitt thinks this is really his only good bet to get campaign funds?

AK
From Georgia | 10:54 a.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Mitt is a loser. The republicans in the south will not vote for a Mormon.
@9:53 and 10:12  | 12:51 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Did you even bother reading my post or checking the soruce (I know it must be hard since its in this same paper but try) the pew poll that the article is about shows a 55% approval rating. Try checking the facts before calling someone a lier.
Not A Loser | 12:56 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Mitt is not a loser, or looooser, as Brother Chuck asserts. He's very much a winner. I'd love to be in his shoes as a loser, with two advanced degrees from Harvard, a proven track record of successfully managing businesses and bringing Massaschussets' bloated government and red ink back into the black (not a racial term, please), and raising a wonderfully successful family. What a loser that is. My my, Chuck. How do you compare, my friend? Could your diatribe be based, possibly, on theology? If so, that truly is pathetic. And un-christian like.
To "Rocks" | 1:08 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Yeah Yeah..good looking, smart, blah blah

On his business card it should say:

(In a Yosemite Sam voice please)

"Mitt Romney...The flip-floppiest, both-sides-of-his mouthiest, most double-talkiest candidate east, west, north AAAAAAAANNNNND south of the Pecos!"

Good looking.. Sheesh..THAT solves a lot of the GOP's endless problems.

Rox
In Denial | 1:28 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
To Rocks is in denial. The Democrats are the ones who are going to have endless problems under their current proposals for SOcialism and higher taxes and totally unprecedented debt. So keep thinking that the people are wanting all of that, and just keep attacking GOP and folks like Romney. Just stay in your safe world of George Sorros talking points and liberal echo chamber. Keep denigrating protesters as "extremists." Please, do. (and like Obama supporters don't go on about his looks, c'mon).
To "In Denial" | 1:38 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Obama is going to get it done. He has had to clean the ear-deep manure left behind by 8 years of GOP "leadership".

We will ultimately all benefit, but you right-wing party-line toers are the blind leading the blind.

If your Republican Party was so good, so fiscally responsible, so honest, and so trustworthy, they would not have been told to hit the road last November.

American voters could not have yelled "Hey GOP...Up Yours!" any louder.

Christi
Reality Check | 1:43 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
I'm outside the U.S. but the way I see it:

1. It takes more than a billion $$ to win the Presidency - fundraising this early makes sense.

2. to win the presidency, you must build a network early on (especially among party faithful) - these sorts of event are expected as is donating to other candidates over many many years.

3. Because of current demographics, only a social moderate can now win the presidency and today only a fiscal conservative can win

4. The historic stranglehold of the evangelical south on the GOP will eventually be cut loose. Their historical veto translates into the GOP never putting forth a candidate that can win an election (see point 3 above). Right wing (and unfortunateley often bigoted and simpleminded) evangelicals need to face the reality of not being able to elect an extremely socially conservative president. Every year more young voters arise.

5. The president has to be physically appealing (that's the way you like your presidents.

6. The president has to be an excellent speaker (teleprompter user).

Based on the above, Gov. Romney is following a prudent plan and may be successful.
To Christi posting at 1:38 | 2:14 p.m. Sept. 29, 2009
Amen.

Why all these long faces, foot-stomping, and tantrum throwing by the GOP? Did they suddenly, out of NOWHERE get intelligent?
I think not.

You are correct..we were transifxed by the lying, cheating, underhanded republicans. The rich got richer, everyone else got squat, and we were all assured, by one very smug, very full-of-himself Dubya, several years ago, that in regards to our military presence in the middle east that it was "Mission Accomplished!"

Yup, indeed. The mission of the democrats was accomplished when the entire country saw that smirking man dig his own political grave.

So stand aside, complainers. We have much more now to have faith in then we ever did for the last 8 years.

Thank God we get a break from that elitist GOP.
